Job 40
1 And the Lord went on, and said to Job:
Und Jahwe antwortete Hiob und sprach:
2 Shall he that contendeth with God be so easily silenced? surely he that reproveth God, ought to answer him.
Hadern mit dem Allmächtigen will der Tadler? Der Ankläger Gottes antwortete darauf!
3 Then Job answered the Lord, and said:
Dann antwortete Hiob Jahwe und sprach:
4 What can I answer, who hath spoken inconsiderately? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
Fürwahr, zu gering bin ich; was soll ich dir erwidern? Ich lege meine Hand auf meinen Mund.
5 One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said: and another, to which I will add no more.
Einmal habe ich geredet und werde es nicht wiederholen - ein zweites Mal, und werde es nicht wieder thun!
6 And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said:
Dann antwortete Jahwe Hiob aus Wettersturm und sprach:
7 Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.
Auf, gürte deine Lenden wie ein Mann: Ich will dich fragen und du belehre mich!
8 Wilt thou make void my judgment: and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified?
Willst du gar mein Recht zunichte machen, mich verdammen, damit du Recht behaltest?
9 And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
Hast du denn einen Arm wie Gott und vermagst du mit gleichem Schall wie er zu donnern?
10 Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.
Schmücke dich doch mit Majestät und Hoheit! Umkleide dich mit Glanz und Herrlichkeit!
11 Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him.
Laß sich ergießen deines Zornes Fluten und wirf mit einem Blicke jeden Stolzen nieder!
12 Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place.
Mit einem Blicke demütige jeden Stolzen und strecke die Gottlosen zu Boden.
13 Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit.
Birg sie im Staube allzumal, banne ihr Angesicht an verborgenem Ort,
14 Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee.
so will auch ich dich loben, daß deine Rechte dir Sieg verschafft!
15 Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox.
Sieh nur das Nilpferd, das ich schuf wie dich; Gras frißt es wie ein Rind!
16 His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly.
Sieh nur seine Kraft in seinen Lenden und seine Stärke in den Muskeln seines Leibes.
17 He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together.
Es streckt seinen Schwanz wie eine Ceder aus, die Sehnen seiner Schenkel sind dicht verschlungen.
18 His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.
Seine Knochen sind Röhren von Erz, seine Gebeine wie ein eiserner Stab.
19 He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword.
Das ist der Erstling von Gottes Walten; der es schuf, reicht dar sein Schwert.
20 To him the mountains bring forth grass: there all the beasts of the field shall play.
Denn Futter tragen ihm die Berge, wo alle Tiere des Feldes spielen.
21 He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places.
Unter Lotusbüschen lagert es, im Versteck von Rohr und Schilf.
22 The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about.
Lotusbüsche überdachen es, um ihm Schatten zu geben, des Baches Weiden umfangen es.
23 Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder: and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth.
Wenn der Strom anschwillt, bangt es nicht, bleibt ruhig, wenn ein Jordan gegen seinen Rachen andringt.
24 In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes.
Vermag es einer von vorn zu packen, mit Sprenkeln ihm die Nase zu durchbohren?
