Job 14
1 Man born of a woman, living for a short time, is filled with many miseries.
« L'homme, qui est né d'une femme, est de peu de jours, et pleine d'ennuis.
2 Who cometh forth like a flower, and is destroyed, and fleeth as a shadow, and never continueth in the same state.
Il croît comme une fleur, et on le coupe. Il fuit aussi comme une ombre, et ne continue pas.
3 And dost thou think it meet to open thy eyes upon such an one, and to bring him into judgment with thee?
Ouvrez-vous les yeux sur une telle personne, et m'amener en jugement avec vous?
4 Who can make him clean that is conceived of unclean seed? is it not thou who only art?
Qui peut faire sortir un objet pur d'un objet impur? Pas un seul.
5 The days of man are short, and the number of his months is with thee: thou hast appointed his bounds which cannot be passed.
Voyant que ses jours sont déterminés, le nombre de ses mois est avec vous, et vous avez nommé ses limites qu'il ne peut pas dépasser.
6 Depart a little from him, that he may rest, until his wished for day come, as that of the hireling.
Détournez les yeux de lui, pour qu'il se repose, jusqu'à ce qu'il accomplisse, comme un mercenaire, sa journée.
7 A tree hath hope: if it be cut, it groweth green again, and the boughs thereof sprout.
« Car il y a de l'espoir pour un arbre si on le coupe, qu'il germera à nouveau, que sa tendre branche ne cessera pas.
8 If its root be old in the earth, and its stock be dead in the dust:
Mais sa racine vieillit dans la terre, et son stock meurt dans le sol,
9 At the scent of water, it shall spring, and bring forth leaves, as when it was first planted.
pourtant, grâce à l'odeur de l'eau, il bourgeonnera, et faire pousser des rameaux comme une plante.
10 But man when he shall be dead, and stripped and consumed, I pray you where is he?
Mais l'homme meurt, il est abattu. Oui, l'homme abandonne l'esprit, et où est-il?
11 As if the waters should depart out of the sea, and an emptied river should be dried up:
Comme les eaux s'éloignent de la mer, et la rivière se vide et s'assèche,
12 So man when he is fallen asleep shall not rise again; till the heavens be broken, he shall not awake, nor rise up out of his sleep.
Alors l'homme se couche et ne se relève pas. Jusqu'à ce que les cieux ne soient plus, ils ne se réveilleront pas, ni être tirés de leur sommeil.
13 Who will grant me this, that thou mayst protect me in hell, and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a. time when thou wilt remember me? (Sheol h7585)
« Oh! si tu me cachais dans le séjour des morts, que tu me garderais secret jusqu'à ce que ta colère soit passée, que vous me désigniez un moment précis et que vous vous souveniez de moi! (Sheol h7585)
14 Shall man that is dead, thinkest thou, live again? all the days in which I am now in warfare, I expect until my change come.
Si un homme meurt, vivra-t-il de nouveau? J'attendrais tous les jours de ma guerre, jusqu'à ce que je sois libéré.
15 Thou shalt call me, and I will answer thee: to the work of thy hands thou shalt reach out thy right hand.
Vous appeliez, et je vous répondais. Vous auriez un désir pour le travail de vos mains.
16 Thou indeed hast numbered my steps, but spare my sins.
Mais maintenant, tu comptes mes pas. Ne veillez-vous pas sur mon péché?
17 Thou hast sealed up my offences as it were in a bag, but hast cured my iniquity.
Ma désobéissance est enfermée dans un sac. Vous fixez mon iniquité.
18 A mountain falling cometh to nought, and a rock is removed out of its place.
« Mais la montagne qui s'écroule n'aboutit à rien. La pierre est retirée de sa place.
19 Waters wear away the stones, and with inundation the ground by little and little is washed away: so in like manner thou shalt destroy man.
Les eaux usent les pierres. Ses torrents emportent la poussière de la terre. Donc vous détruisez l'espoir de l'homme.
20 Thou hast strengthened him for a little while, that he may pass away for ever: thou shalt change his face, and shalt send him away.
Vous l'emportez à jamais sur lui, et il s'en va. Vous changez son visage, et le renvoyez.
21 Whether his children come to honour or dishonour, he shall not understand.
Ses fils viennent à l'honneur, et il ne le sait pas. Ils sont rabaissés, mais il ne le perçoit pas d'eux.
22 But yet his flesh, while he shall live, shall have pain, and his soul shall mourn over him.
Mais sa chair, sur lui, souffre, et son âme en lui se lamente. »
