Jeremiah 40

1 The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, after that Nabuzardan the general had let him go from Rama, when he had taken him, being bound with chains, among all them that were carried away from Jerusalem and Juda, and were carried to Babylon.

Das Wort, welches von seiten Jahwes an Jeremia erging, nachdem ihn Nebusar-Adan, der Oberste der Leibwächter, von Rama aus entlassen hatte, indem er ihn holen ließ - er war nämlich mit Ketten gefesselt inmitten all' der Gefangenen Jerusalems und Judas, die nach Babel weggeführt werden sollten -,

2 And the general of the army taking Jeremias, said to him: The Lord thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place,

und der Oberste der Leibwächter ließ Jeremia holen und sprach zu ihm: Jahwe, dein Gott, drohte diesem Orte dieses Unheil an

3 And he hath brought it: and the Lord hath done as he hath said: because you have sinned against the Lord, and have not hearkened to his voice, and this word is come upon you.

und ließ es eintreten und Jahwe verfuhr, so wie er angedroht hatte; denn ihr sündigtet wider Jahwe und hörtet nicht auf seinen Befehl, und so ist euch das zugestoßen.

4 Now then behold I have loosed thee this day from the chains which were upon thy hands: if it please thee to come with me to Babylon, come: and I will set my eyes upon thee: but if it do not please thee to come with me to Babylon, stay here: behold all the land is before thee, as thou shalt choose, and whither it shall please thee to go, thither go.

Und nun - wohlan! ich löse dich jetzt von den Ketten an deiner Hand: wenn es dir gut dünkt, mit mir nach Babel zu kommen, so komm' und ich will Sorge für dich tragen! Wenn es dir aber nicht gefällt, mit mir nach Babel zu kommen, so laß' es! Sieh', das ganze Land steht dir offen: wohin es dir gut und recht dünkt zu gehen, dahin geh'!

5 And come not with me: but dwell with Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Juda: dwell therefore with him in the midst of the people: or whithersoever it shall please thee to go, go. And the general of the army gave him victuals and presents, and let him go.

Als aber Jeremia zögerte, umzukehren, sagte er: So kehre doch zurück zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, den der König von Babel in den Städten Judas zum Statthalter eingesetzt hat, und bleibe bei ihm inmitten des Volks oder - wohin es dir irgend sonst zu gehen gefällt, dahin geh'! Sodann verlieh ihm der Oberste der Leibwächter Unterhalt und Geschenk und entließ ihn.

6 And Jeremias went to Godolias the son of Ahicam to Masphath: and dwelt with him in the midst of the people that were left in the land.

Und Jeremia begab sich zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams, nach Mizpa und blieb bei ihm inmitten des Volks, der im Lande Übriggebliebenen.

7 And when all the captains of the army that were scattered through the countries, they and their companions, had heard that the king of Babylon had made Godolias the son of Ahicam governor of the country, and that he had committed unto him men and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, them that had not been carried away captive to Babylon:

Als nun alle Heeresobersten, die sich auf freiem Felde befanden, samt ihren Leuten vernahmen, daß der König von Babel Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, zum Statthalter im Lande eingesetzt und ihm Männer und Weiber und Kinder und von den geringen Leuten im Lande, wer irgend nicht nach Babel hinweggeführt worden war, unterstellt habe,

8 They came to Godolias to Masphath: and Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and Johanan, and Jonathan, the sons of Caree, and Sareas the son of Thanehumeth, and the children of Ophi, that were of Netophathi, and Jezonias the son of Maachati, they and their men.

begaben sie sich zu Gedalja nach Mizpa, nämlich Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, und Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, und Seraja, der Sohn Tanhumeths, und die Söhne Ephais aus Netopha und Jesanja, der Sohn des Maachathiters, samt ihren Leuten.

9 And Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan swore to them and to their companions, saying: Fear not to serve the Chaldeass: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

Und Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, schwur ihnen und ihren Leuten, indem er sprach: Fürchtet euch nicht davor, den Chaldäern unterthan zu sein; bleibt im Lande und seid dem Könige von Babel unterthan, so soll es euch wohl ergehen!

10 Behold I dwell in Masphath, that I may answer the commandment of the Chaldeans that are sent to us: but as for you, gather ye the vintage, and the harvest, and the oil, and lay it up in your vessels, and abide in your cities which you hold.

Wohlan! ich werde in Mizpa wohnen bleiben, um euch vor den Chaldäern zu vertreten, die etwa zu uns kommen sollten; ihr indes, erntet Wein und Obst und Öl und thut sie in eure Behälter und bleibt in euren Städten, die ihr in Besitz genommen habt!

11 Moreover all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and in all the countries, when they heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judea, and that he had made Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan ruler over them:

Dazu vernahmen auch alle Judäer, die in Moab und unter den Ammonitern und in Edom und die in allen übrigen Ländern sich aufhielten, daß der König von Babel Juda einen Rest gelassen und Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, über ihn gesetzt habe,

12 All the Jews, I say, returned out of all the places to which they had fled, and they came into the land of Juda to Godolias to Masphath: and they gathered wine, and a very great harvest.

und es kehrten alle Judäer aus allen den Orten, wohin sie versprengt worden waren, zurück und kamen ins Land Juda zu Gedalja nach Mizpa; dann ernteten sie Wein und Obst in großer Menge.

13 Then Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the army, that had been scattered about in the countries, came to Godolias to Masphath.

Johanan aber, der Sohn Kareahs, und alle Heeresobersten, die sich auf freiem Felde befanden, kamen zu Gedalja nach Mizpa

14 And they said to him: Know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon hath sent Ismahel the son of Nathanias to kill thee. And Godolias the son of Ahicam believed them not.

und sprachen zu ihm: Weißt du wohl, daß Baalis, der König der Ammoniter, Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, geschickt hat, dich zu ermorden? Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, aber glaubte ihnen nicht.

15 But Johanan the son of Caree, spoke to Oodolias privately in Masphath, saying: I will go, and I will kill Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and no man shall know it, lest he kill thee, and all the Jews be scattered, that are gathered unto thee, and the remnant of Juda perish.

Insgeheim aber sprach Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, in Mizpa zu Gedalja: Laß mich doch hingehen, daß ich Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, ermorde; niemand soll es erfahren! Warum soll er dich ermorden, so daß sich alle die Judäer, die sich zu dir gesammelt haben, wiederum zerstreuen, und der Überrest Judas zu Grunde geht?

16 And Codolias the son of Ahicam said to Johanan the son of Cares: Do not this thing: for what thou sayst of Ismahel is false.

Gedalja aber, der Sohn Ahikams, antwortete Johanan, dem Sohne Kareahs: Du darfst das nicht thun, denn du redest Lügen über Ismael!
