James 2
1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with respect of persons.
હે મમ ભ્રાતરઃ, યૂયમ્ અસ્માકં તેજસ્વિનઃ પ્રભો ર્યીશુખ્રીષ્ટસ્ય ધર્મ્મં મુખાપેક્ષયા ન ધારયત|
2 For if there shall come into your assembly a man having a golden ring, in fine apparel, and there shall come in also a poor man in mean attire,
યતો યુષ્માકં સભાયાં સ્વર્ણાઙ્ગુરીયકયુક્તે ભ્રાજિષ્ણુપરિચ્છદે પુરુષે પ્રવિષ્ટે મલિનવસ્ત્રે કસ્મિંશ્ચિદ્ દરિદ્રેઽપિ પ્રવિષ્ટે
3 And you have respect to him that is clothed with the fine apparel, and shall say to him: Sit thou here well; but say to the poor man: Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool:
યૂયં યદિ તં ભ્રાજિષ્ણુપરિચ્છદવસાનં જનં નિરીક્ષ્ય વદેત ભવાન્ અત્રોત્તમસ્થાન ઉપવિશત્વિતિ કિઞ્ચ તં દરિદ્રં યદિ વદેત ત્વમ્ અમુસ્મિન્ સ્થાને તિષ્ઠ યદ્વાત્ર મમ પાદપીઠ ઉપવિશેતિ,
4 Do you not judge within yourselves, and are become judges of unjust thoughts?
તર્હિ મનઃસુ વિશેષ્ય યૂયં કિં કુતર્કૈઃ કુવિચારકા ન ભવથ?
5 Hearken, my dearest brethren: hath not God chosen the poor in this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him?
હે મમ પ્રિયભ્રાતરઃ, શૃણુત, સંસારે યે દરિદ્રાસ્તાન્ ઈશ્વરો વિશ્વાસેન ધનિનઃ સ્વપ્રેમકારિભ્યશ્ચ પ્રતિશ્રુતસ્ય રાજ્યસ્યાધિકારિણઃ કર્ત્તું કિં ન વરીતવાન્? કિન્તુ દરિદ્રો યુષ્માભિરવજ્ઞાયતે|
6 But you have dishonoured the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you by might? and do not they draw you before the judgment seats?
ધનવન્ત એવ કિં યુષ્માન્ નોપદ્રવન્તિ બલાચ્ચ વિચારાસનાનાં સમીપં ન નયન્તિ?
7 Do not they blaspheme the good name that is invoked upon you?
યુષ્મદુપરિ પરિકીર્ત્તિતં પરમં નામ કિં તૈરેવ ન નિન્દ્યતે?
8 If then you fulfill the royal law, according to the scriptures, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; you do well.
કિઞ્ચ ત્વં સ્વસમીપવાસિનિ સ્વાત્મવત્ પ્રીયસ્વ, એતચ્છાસ્ત્રીયવચનાનુસારતો યદિ યૂયં રાજકીયવ્યવસ્થાં પાલયથ તર્હિ ભદ્રં કુરુથ|
9 But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, being reproved by the law as transgressors.
યદિ ચ મુખાપેક્ષાં કુરુથ તર્હિ પાપમ્ આચરથ વ્યવસ્થયા ચાજ્ઞાલઙ્ઘિન ઇવ દૂષ્યધ્વે|
10 And whosoever shall keep the whole law, but offend in one point, is become guilty of all.
યતો યઃ કશ્ચિત્ કૃત્સ્નાં વ્યવસ્થાં પાલયતિ સ યદ્યેકસ્મિન્ વિધૌ સ્ખલતિ તર્હિ સર્વ્વેષામ્ અપરાધી ભવતિ|
11 For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now if thou do not commit adultery, but shalt kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
યતો હેતોસ્ત્વં પરદારાન્ મા ગચ્છેતિ યઃ કથિતવાન્ સ એવ નરહત્યાં મા કુર્ય્યા ઇત્યપિ કથિતવાન્ તસ્માત્ ત્વં પરદારાન્ ન ગત્વા યદિ નરહત્યાં કરોષિ તર્હિ વ્યવસ્થાલઙ્ઘી ભવસિ|
12 So speak ye, and so do, as being to be judged by the law of liberty.
મુક્તે ર્વ્યવસ્થાતો યેષાં વિચારેણ ભવિતવ્યં તાદૃશા લોકા ઇવ યૂયં કથાં કથયત કર્મ્મ કુરુત ચ|
13 For judgment without mercy to him that hath not done mercy. And mercy exalteth itself above judgment.
યો દયાં નાચરતિ તસ્ય વિચારો નિર્દ્દયેન કારિષ્યતે, કિન્તુ દયા વિચારમ્ અભિભવિષ્યતિ|
14 What shall it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but hath not works? Shall faith be able to save him?
હે મમ ભ્રાતરઃ, મમ પ્રત્યયોઽસ્તીતિ યઃ કથયતિ તસ્ય કર્મ્માણિ યદિ ન વિદ્યન્ત તર્હિ તેન કિં ફલં? તેન પ્રત્યયેન કિં તસ્ય પરિત્રાણં ભવિતું શક્નોતિ?
15 And if a brother or sister be naked, and want daily food:
કેષુચિદ્ ભ્રાતૃષુ ભગિનીષુ વા વસનહીનેષુ પ્રાત્યહિકાહારહીનેષુ ચ સત્સુ યુષ્માકં કોઽપિ તેભ્યઃ શરીરાર્થં પ્રયોજનીયાનિ દ્રવ્યાણિ ન દત્વા યદિ તાન્ વદેત્,
16 And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit?
યૂયં સકુશલં ગત્વોષ્ણગાત્રા ભવત તૃપ્યત ચેતિ તર્હ્યેતેન કિં ફલં?
17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself.
તદ્વત્ પ્રત્યયો યદિ કર્મ્મભિ ર્યુક્તો ન ભવેત્ તર્હ્યેકાકિત્વાત્ મૃત એવાસ્તે|
18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith.
કિઞ્ચ કશ્ચિદ્ ઇદં વદિષ્યતિ તવ પ્રત્યયો વિદ્યતે મમ ચ કર્મ્માણિ વિદ્યન્તે, ત્વં કર્મ્મહીનં સ્વપ્રત્યયં માં દર્શય તર્હ્યહમપિ મત્કર્મ્મભ્યઃ સ્વપ્રત્યયં ત્વાં દર્શયિષ્યામિ|
19 Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble.
એક ઈશ્વરો ઽસ્તીતિ ત્વં પ્રત્યેષિ| ભદ્રં કરોષિ| ભૂતા અપિ તત્ પ્રતિયન્તિ કમ્પન્તે ચ|
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
કિન્તુ હે નિર્બ્બોધમાનવ, કર્મ્મહીનઃ પ્રત્યયો મૃત એવાસ્ત્યેતદ્ અવગન્તું કિમ્ ઇચ્છસિ?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, offering up Isaac his son upon the altar?
અસ્માકં પૂર્વ્વપુરુષો ય ઇબ્રાહીમ્ સ્વપુત્રમ્ ઇસ્હાકં યજ્ઞવેદ્યામ્ ઉત્સૃષ્ટવાન્ સ કિં કર્મ્મભ્યો ન સપુણ્યીકૃતઃ?
22 Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect?
પ્રત્યયે તસ્ય કર્મ્મણાં સહકારિણિ જાતે કર્મ્મભિઃ પ્રત્યયઃ સિદ્ધો ઽભવત્ તત્ કિં પશ્યસિ?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled, saying: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him to justice, and he was called the friend of God.
ઇત્થઞ્ચેદં શાસ્ત્રીયવચનં સફલમ્ અભવત્, ઇબ્રાહીમ્ પરમેશ્વરે વિશ્વસિતવાન્ તચ્ચ તસ્ય પુણ્યાયાગણ્યત સ ચેશ્વરસ્ય મિત્ર ઇતિ નામ લબ્ધવાન્|
24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?
પશ્યત માનવઃ કર્મ્મભ્યઃ સપુણ્યીક્રિયતે ન ચૈકાકિના પ્રત્યયેન|
25 And in like manner also Rahab the harlot, was not she justified by works, receiving the messengers, and sending them out another way?
તદ્વદ્ યા રાહબ્નામિકા વારાઙ્ગના ચારાન્ અનુગૃહ્યાપરેણ માર્ગેણ વિસસર્જ સાપિ કિં કર્મ્મભ્યો ન સપુણ્યીકૃતા?
26 For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead.
અતએવાત્મહીનો દેહો યથા મૃતોઽસ્તિ તથૈવ કર્મ્મહીનઃ પ્રત્યયોઽપિ મૃતોઽસ્તિ|
