Isaiah 55
1 All you that thirst, come to the waters: and you that have no money make haste, buy, and eat: come ye, buy wine and milk without money, and without any price.
O vous tous qui avez soif, venez aux eaux, vous-mêmes qui n’avez pas d’argent; venez, achetez du blé et mangez; venez, achetez sans argent, et sans rien donner en échange, du vin et du lait.
2 Why do you spend money for that which is not breed, and your labour for that which doth not satisfy you? Hearken diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and your soul shall be delighted in fatness.
Pourquoi dépenser de l’argent pour ce qui n’est pas du pain, votre travail pour ce qui ne rassasie pas? Ecoutez-moi donc, et mangez ce qui est bon, et que votre âme se délecte de mets succulents.
3 Incline your ear and come to me: hear and your soul shall lire, and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the faithful mercies of David.
Prêtez l’oreille et venez à moi; écoutez, et que votre âme vive; et je conclurai avec vous un pacte éternel, vous accordant les grâces assurées à David.
4 Behold I have given him for a witness to the people, for a leader and a master to the Gentiles.
Voici que je l’ai établi témoin auprès des peuples, prince et dominateur des peuples.
5 Behold thou shalt call a nation, which thou knewest not: and the nations that knew not thee shall run to thee, because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel, for he hath glorified thee.
Voici que tu appelleras la nation que tu ne connaissais pas, et les nations qui ne te connaissaient pas accourront à toi, à cause de Yahweh, ton Dieu, et du Saint d’Israël, parce qu’il t’a glorifié!
6 Seek ye the Lord, while he may be found: call upon him, while he is near.
Cherchez Yahweh, pendant qu’on peut le trouver; invoquez-le, tandis qu’il est près.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unjust man his thoughts, and let him return to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God: for he is bountiful to forgive.
Que le méchant abandonne sa voie, et le criminel ses pensées; qu’il revienne à Yahweh, et il lui fera grâce; à notre Dieu, car il pardonne largement.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts: nor your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
Car mes pensées ne sont pas vos pensées, et vos voies ne sont pas mes voies, — oracle de Yahweh.
9 For as the heavens are exalted above the earth, so are my ways exalted above your ways, and my thoughts above your thoughts.
Autant les cieux sont élevés au-dessus de la terre, autant mes voies sont élevées au-dessus de vos voies et mes pensées au-dessus de vos pensées.
10 And as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return no more thither, but soak the earth, and water it, and make it to spring, and give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Comme la pluie et la neige descendent du ciel et n’y retournent pas, qu’elles n’aient abreuvé et fécondé la terre et qu’elles ne l’aient fait germer, qu’elles n’aient donné la semence au semeur, et le pain à celui qui mange;
11 So shall my word be, which shall go forth from my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall do whatsoever I please, and shall prosper in the things for which I sent it.
ainsi en est-il de ma parole qui sort de ma bouche: elle ne revient pas à moi sans effet, mais elle exécute ce que j’ai voulu, et accomplit ce pour quoi je l’ai envoyée.
12 For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall sing praise before yen, and all the trees of the country shall clap their hands.
Car vous sortirez pleins de joie, et vous serez conduits en paix; les montagnes et les collines, à votre vue, éclateront de joie, et tous les arbres de la campagne applaudiront.
13 Instead of the shrub, shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the nettle, shall come up the myrtle tree: and the Lord shall be named for an everlasting sign, that shall not be taken away.
Au lieu de l’épine s’élèvera le cyprès, et au lieu de la ronce croîtra le myrte; ce sera pour Yahweh un honneur, un monument éternel qui ne sera pas détruit.
