Genesis 6
1 And after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them,
Et lorsque les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la face de la terre, et que des filles leur furent nées,
2 The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took to themselves wives of all which they chose.
les fils de Dieu virent que les filles de l'homme étaient belles, et ils en prirent pour femmes parmi celles qu'ils préféraient.
3 And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
Alors l'Éternel dit: Mon Esprit ne régira pas éternellement l'intérieur de l'homme; par suite de son égarement il [n'] est [plus que] chair; et sa vie sera de cent vingt ans.
4 Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men, and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown.
Les géants existaient sur la terre en ce temps-là; et aussi, après que les fils de Dieu se furent approchés des filles des hommes, celles-ci leur donnèrent des fils qui sont ces héros fameux dès l'antiquité.
5 And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,
Et l'Éternel vit que la méchanceté des hommes était grande et générale sur la terre, et que toutes les pensées formées par leur cœur n'étaient toujours que pure malice.
6 It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,
Et l'Éternel se repentit d'avoir fait l'homme sur la terre, et Il en ressentait de la douleur en son cœur.
7 He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Alors l'Éternel dit: Je ferai disparaître de la face de la terre l'homme que j'ai créé, à partir de l'homme jusqu'au bétail et aux reptiles et aux oiseaux des cieux; car je me repens de les avoir faits.
8 But Noe found grace before the Lord.
Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux de l'Éternel.
9 These are the generations of Noe: Noe was a just and perfect man in his generations, he walked with God.
C'est ici l'histoire de Noé. Noé était un homme juste, accompli parmi les hommes de son temps. Noé marchait avec Dieu.
10 And he begot three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.
Et Noé engendra trois fils, Sem, Cham et Japheth.
11 And the earth was corrupted before God, and was filled with iniquity.
Et la terre se corrompait à la face de Dieu, et la terre se remplissait de crimes.
12 And when God had seen that the earth was corrupted (for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth, )
Et Dieu regarda la terre, et voici, elle était corrompue, toute chair avait corrompu ses voies sur la terre.
13 He said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.
Alors Dieu dit à Noé: La fin de toute chair est arrêtée par devers moi, car la terre est remplie de crimes par eux, et voici je vais les détruire avec la terre.
14 Make thee an ark of timber planks: thou shalt make little rooms in the ark, and thou shalt pitch it within and without.
Fais-toi une arche de bois résineux; tu feras l'arche par compartiments, et tu l'enduiras en dedans et en dehors de résine.
15 And thus shalt thou make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits: the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
Et voici comment tu la feras: elle aura trois cents coudées de longueur, cinquante coudées de largeur et trente coudées de hauteur.
16 Thou shalt make a window in the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish the top of it: and the door of the ark thou shalt set in the side: with lower, middle chambers, and third stories shalt thou make it.
Tu y pratiqueras un jour auquel tu donneras une coudée à partir d'en-haut, et tu établiras une porte au côté de l'arche; tu la composeras d'un bas, d'un second et d'un troisième étage.
17 Behold I will bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, under heaven. All things that are in the earth shall be consumed.
Car, voici, je vais faire arriver sur la terre le déluge d'eaux pour détruire toute chair ayant souffle de vie sous le ciel; tout ce qui est sur la terre périra.
18 And I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and the wives of thy sons with thee.
Mais je dresse mon alliance avec toi, et tu entreras dans l'arche, toi et tes fils et ta femme et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.
19 And of every living creature of all flesh, thou shalt bring two of a sort into the ark, that they may live with thee: of the male sex, and the female.
Et de tout ce qui vit, de toute chair, tu introduiras avec toi dans l'arche une paire de tous, pour les conserver en vie avec toi; ce sera un mâle et une femelle,
20 Of fowls according to their kind, and of beasts in their kind, and of every thing that creepeth on the earth according to its kind; two of every sort shall go in with thee, that they may live.
des oiseaux selon leurs espèces, et des bestiaux selon leurs espèces et de tous les reptiles de la terre selon leurs espèces, une paire de chacun d'eux se retirera vers toi pour être conservés en vie.
21 Thou shalt take unto thee of all food that may be eaten, and thou shalt lay it up with thee: and it shall be food for thee and them.
Cependant munis-toi de tout aliment qui se mange, et fais tes provisions, afin qu'il y ait nourriture pour toi et pour eux.
22 And Noe did all things which God commanded him.
Et Noé exécuta tous les ordres que Dieu lui donna; ainsi fit-il.
