Ezekiel 16

1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

La parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée en ces termes:

2 Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations.

"Fils de l’homme, fais connaître à Jérusalem ses abominations.

3 And thou shalt say: Thus saith the Lord God to Jerusalem: Thy root, and thy nativity is of the land of Chanaan, thy father was an Amorrhite, and thy mother a Cethite.

Tu diras: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu à Jérusalem: Le lieu de ton extraction et ton pays natal, c’est la terre de Canaan; ton père était Amorréen et ta mère Héthéenne.

4 And when thou wast born, in the day of thy nativity thy navel wits not cut, neither wast thou washed with water for thy health, nor salted with salt, nor swaddled with clouts.

Quant à ta naissance, le jour où tu fus enfantée, ton nombril ne fut pas coupé, tu ne fus pas lavée dans l’eau pour être purifiée, tu ne fus pas saupoudrée de sel ni enveloppée de langes.

5 No eye had pity on thee to do any of these things for thee, out of compassion to thee: but thou wast cast out upon the face of the earth in the abjection of thy soul, in the day that thou wast born.

Nul oeil ne te prit en pitié pour te donner aucun de ces soins, par compassion pour toi; tu fus jetée au milieu des champs par suite de la répulsion que tu inspirais, le jour où tu naquis.

6 And passing by thee, I saw that thou wast trodden under foot in thy own blood. and I said to thee when thou wast in thy blood: Live: I have said to thee: Live in thy blood.

Mais je passai auprès de toi, je te vis t’agiter dans ton sang, et je te dis: "Vis dans ton sang!"

7 I caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field: and thou didst increase and grow great, and advancedst, and camest to woman’s ornament: thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair grew: and thou wast naked, and full of confusion.

Je t’ai multipliée comme la végétation des champs, tu as augmenté, grandi, tu as revêtu la plus belle des parures, tes seins se sont affermis, ta chevelure a poussé, mais tu étais nue et dénudée.

8 And I passed by thee, and saw thee: and behold thy time was the time of lovers: and I spread my garment over thee, and covered thy ignominy. And I swore to thee, and I entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord God: and thou becamest mine.

Et je passai près de toi et vis que tu étais arrivée à l’âge des amours; j’étendis mon vêtement sur toi et couvris ta nudité; je m’engageai à toi par serment et fis alliance avec toi, dit le Seigneur Dieu, et tu fus à moi.

9 And I washed thee with water, and cleansed away thy blood from thee: and I anointed thee with oil.

Je te lavai dans l’eau, je nettoyai le sang qui te recouvrait et je t’oignis d’huile.

10 And I clothed thee with embroidery, and shed thee with violet coloured shoes: and I girded thee about with fine linen, and clothed thee with fine garments.

Je te revêtis de broderies, je te mis des chaussures de tahach, je te ceignis de byssus et te couvris de soie.

11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and put bracelets on thy hands, and a chain about thy neck.

Je t’ornai de parures, je te mis des bracelets aux mains, un collier au cou.

12 And I put a jewel upon thy forehead and earrings in thy ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head.

Je te mis un anneau au nez, des boucles aux oreilles et une couronne magnifique sur la tête.

13 And thou wast adorned with gold, and silver, and wast clothed with fine linen, and embroidered work, and many colours: thou didst eat fine hour, and honey, and oil, and wast made exceeding beautiful: and wast advanced to be a queen.

Tu te paras d’or et d’argent; ton costume était de byssus, de soie et de broderie; tu te nourris de fine fleur de farine, de miel et d’huile; et tu fus belle, très belle, et digne de la royauté.

14 And thy renown went forth among the nations for thy beauty: for thou wast perfect through my beauty, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord God.

Et tu t’es rendue célèbre parmi les nations par ta beauté, qui était parfaite, grâce à l’éclat que j’avais répandu sur toi, dit le Seigneur Dieu!

15 But trusting in thy beauty, thou playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and thou hast prostituted thyself to every passenger, to be his.

Mais tu t’es fiée à ta beauté et livrée à la prostitution à la faveur de ta renommée; tu as prodigué tes débauches à tout passant quel qu’il fût.

16 And taking of thy garments thou hast made thee high places sewed together on each side: and hast played the harlot upon them, as hath not been done before, nor shall be hereafter.

Tu as pris de tes vêtements, tu en as fait des hauts lieux bigarrés et tu t’es prostituée sur eux, ce qui ne devait pas arriver et ne devait pas être.

17 And thou tookest thy beautiful vessels, of my gold, and my silver, which I gave thee, and thou madest thee images of men, and hast committed fornication with them.

Et tu as pris tes belles parures faites de mon or et de mon argent que je t’avais donnés et tu t’es confectionné des simulacres de mâles et tu t’es prostituée à eux.

18 And thou tookest thy garments of divers colours, and coveredst them: and settest my oil and my sweet incense before them.

Et tu as pris tes vêtements brodés et tu les en as recouverts et tu as mis devant eux mon huile et mon encens.

19 And my bread which I gave thee, the fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast set before them for a sweet odour; and it was done, saith the Lord God.

Et mon pain que je t’avais donnéje te nourrissais de fine fleur de farine, d’huile et de mieltu le leur as offert en odeur agréable; oui, il en a été ainsi, dit le Seigneur Dieu.

20 And thou hast taken thy sons, and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne to me: and best sacrificed the same to them to be devoured. Is thy fornication small?

Et tu as pris tes fils et tes filles que tu m’avais enfantés et tu les leur as sacrifiés en pâture; était-ce trop peu que ta prostitution?

21 Thou hast sacrificed and given my children to them, consecrating them by fire.

Tu as immolé mes fils, tu les as livrés en les faisant passer devant eux.

22 And after all thy abominations, and fornications, thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked, and full of confusion, trodden under foot in thy own blood.

Et au cours de toutes tes abominations, de tes débauches, tu ne t’es pas souvenue des jours de ton enfance, où tu étais nue et dénudée et où tu te roulais dans ton sang.

23 And it came to pass after all thy wickedness (woe, woe to thee, saith the Lord God)

Et ensuite après toute ta dépravationmalheur, malheur à toi! dit le Seigneur Dieu,

24 That thou didst also build thee a common stew, and madest thee a brothel house in every street.

tu t’es bâti un tertre et tu t’es fait un haut-lieu sur chaque place.

25 At every head of the way thou hast set up a sign of thy prostitution: and hast made thy beauty to be abominable: and hast prostituted thyself to every one that passed by, and hast multiplied thy fornications.

A l’entrée de chaque chemin tu as édifié ton haut-lieu, tu as souillé ta beauté, tu t’es abandonnée à tout passant, tu as multiplié tes impudicités.

26 And thou hast committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, men of large bodies, and hast multiplied thy fornications to provoke me.

Tu t’es prostituée aux enfants de l’Egypte, tes voisins, forts en chair, et tu as multiplié tes débauches pour me courroucer.

27 Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and will take away thy justification: and I will deliver thee up to the will of the daughters of the Philistines that hate thee, that are ashamed of thy wicked way.

Et voici que j’ai étendu ma main sur toi et j’ai réduit ta subsistance, je t’ai livrée à la merci de tes ennemies, les filles des Philistins, confuses de ta conduite infâme.

28 Thou hast also committed fornication with the Assyrians, because thou wast not yet satisfied: and after thou hadst played the harlot with them, even so thou wast not contented.

Ensuite tu t’es prostituée aux enfants d’Achour, faute d’être assouvie; tu t’es prostituée avec eux, sans en avoir encore assez.

29 Thou hast also multiplied thy fornications in the land of Chanaan with the Chaldeans: and neither so wast then satisfied.

Tu as multiplié aussi tes débauches du côté du pays mercantile des Chaldéens, et avec cela non plus tu ne fus pas rassasiée.

30 Wherein shall I cleanse thy heart, saith the Lord God: seeing thou dost all these the works of a shameless prostitute?

Que ton coeur était languissant, dit le Seigneur Dieu, quand tu commettais tous ces actes, à la façon d’une courtisane sans frein!

31 Because thou hast built thy brothel house at the head of every way, and thou hast made thy high place in every street: and wast not as a harlot that by disdain enhanceth her price,

Quand tu bâtissais ton tertre à l’entrée de chaque chemin, ta hauteur sur chaque place, tu n’étais pas comme les courtisanes toujours mécontentes du salaire.

32 But as an adulteress, that bringeth in strangers over her husband.

O femme adultère, qui prends des étrangers à la place de ton mari!

33 Gifts are given to all harlots: but thou hast given hire to all thy lovers, and thou hast given them gifts to come to thee from every side, to commit fornication with thee.

A toutes les courtisanes on offre un don, et toi, tu as fait des cadeaux à tous tes amants, tu les as achetés afin qu’ils vinssent à toi des alentours pour tes débauches.

34 And it hath happened in thee contrary to the custom of women in thy fornications, and after thee there shall be no such fornication: for in that thou gavest rewards, and didst not take rewards, the contrary hath been done in thee.

II s’est passé pour toi le contraire des autres femmes, car c’est toi qui t’es prostituée, et l’on ne s’est pas prostitué à toi; c’est toi qui payais un salaire et l’on ne t’en a point donné; ç’a été un renversement des choses.

35 Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the Lord.

C’Est pourquoi, prostituée, écoute la parole du Seigneur.

36 Thus saith the Lord God: Because thy money hath been poured out, and thy shame discovered through thy fornications with thy lovers, and with the idols of thy abominations, by the blood of thy children whom thou gavest them:

Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: "Puisque tes fonds ont été gaspillés, que ta nudité s’est dévoilée dans tes prostitutions avec tes amants et avec toutes tes idoles infâmes, et en raison du sang de tes enfants que tu leur as voués,

37 Behold, I will gather together all thy lovers with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all whom thou hast loved, with all whom thou hast hated: and I will gather them together against thee on every side, and will discover thy shame in their sight, and they shall see all thy nakedness.

pour tout cela je vais rassembler tous tes amants auxquels tu plaisais, tous ceux que tu aimais avec tous ceux que tu haïssais, je les rassemblerai contre toi de toute part et je leur découvrirai ta nudité, et ils verront toute ta nudité.

38 And I will judge thee as adulteresses, and they that shed blood are judged: and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.

Et je t’infligerai le châtiment des femmes adultères et qui versent le sang, et je ferai de toi un être de sang, de fureur et de jalousie.

39 And I will deliver thee into their hands, and they shall destroy thy brothel house, and throw down thy stews: and they shall strip thee of thy garments, and shall take away the vessels of thy beauty: and leave thee naked, and full of disgrace.

Je te livrerai entre leurs mains et ils abattront ton tertre et démoliront tes hauts-lieux; ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, prendront tes effets d’apparat et te laisseront là nue et dépouillée.

40 And they shall bring upon thee a multitude, and they shall stone thee with stones, and shall slay thee with their swords.

Ils feront monter contre toi une multitude et t’accableront de pierres et te perceront de leurs glaives.

41 And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and shall execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and thou shalt cease from fornication, and shalt give no hire any more.

Ils consumeront par le feu tes maisons et exécuteront des jugements contre toi sous les yeux de nombreuses femmes; ainsi je mettrai fin à ta prostitution, et dorénavant tu ne donneras plus de salaire non plus.

42 And my indignation shall rest in thee: and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will cease and be angry no more.

J’Assouvirai ma colère sur toi, et ma jalousie se détournera de toi, je me tiendrai tranquille sans plus me courroucer.

43 Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast provoked me in all these things: wherefore I also have turned thy ways upon thy head, saith the Lord God, and I have not done according to thy wicked deeds in all thy abominations.

Parce que tu ne t’es pas rappelé les jours de ta jeunesse et que tu m’as fâché par toutes ces choses, moi aussi, voici que je fais retomber ta conduite sur ta tête, dit le Seigneur Dieu: n’as-tu pas ajouté la bassesse à toutes tes abominations?

44 Behold every one that useth a common proverb, shall use this against thee, saying: As the mother was, so also is her daughter.

Certes, tous les faiseurs de proverbes t’appliqueront le proverbe que voici: "Telle mère, telle fille!"

45 Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that cast off her husband, and her children: and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who cast off their husbands, and their children: your mother was a Cethite, and your father an Amorrhite.

Tu es bien la fille de ta mère, qui a pris en aversion son mari et ses enfants, et la soeur—de tes soeurs, qui ont pris en aversion leurs maris et leurs fils; votre mère est une Hétéenne et votre père un Amorréen.

46 And thy elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister that dwelleth at thy right hand is Sodom, and her daughters.

Ta soeur aînée, c’est Samarie avec ses filles qui demeure à ta gauche, et ta soeur cadette qui demeure à ta droite, c’est Sodome et ses filles.

47 But neither hast thou walked in their ways, nor hast thou done a little less than they according to their wickednesses: thou hast done almost more wicked things than they in all thy ways.

Non seulement tu as marché dans leurs voies et pratiqué leurs abominations, mais peu s’en est fallu que tu n’eusses été plus corrompue qu’elles dans toutes tes voies.

48 As I live, saith the Lord God, thy sister Sodom herself, and her daughters, have not done as thou hast done, and thy daughters.

Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, Sodome ta soeur, elle avec ses filles, n’a pas agi comme tu as agi, toi et tes filles.

49 Behold this was the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance, and the idleness of her, and of her daughters: and they did not put forth their hand to the needy, and to the poor.

Or, voici quel a été le crime de Sodome, ta soeur: l’orgueil d’être bien repue et d’avoir toutes ses aises s’est trouvé en elle et en ses filles, et elle n’a pas soutenu la main du pauvre et du nécessiteux.

50 And they were lifted up, and committed abominations before me: and I took them away as thou hast seen.

Elles ont été hautaines, elles ont commis des abominations devant moi, et je les ai supprimées quand j’ai vu cela.

51 And Samaria committed not half thy sins: but thou hast surpassed them with thy crimes, and hast justified thy sisters by all thy abominations which thou hast done.

Mais Samarie n’a pas commis la moitié de tes péchés; tu as accumulé plus d’abominations que celles-là et innocenté tes soeurs par toutes les abominations que tu as faites.

52 Therefore do thou also bear thy confusion, thou that hast surpassed thy sisters with thy sins, doing more wickedly than they: for they are justified above thee, therefore be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, thou that hast justified thy sisters.

Aussi, porte ta confusion, toi qui as rendu excusable ta soeur; à cause de tes péchés par lesquels tu as dépassé leurs abominations, elles se trouvent plus innocentes que toi, aussi sois honteuse et porte ta confusion, toi qui innocentes tes soeurs.

53 And I will bring back and restore them by bringing back Sodom, with her daughters, and by bringing back Samaria, and her daughters: and I will bring those that return of thee in the midst of them.

Et j’assurerai leur retour de captivité, le retour de Sodome et de ses filles et le retour de Samarie et de ses filles, et le retour de tes captifs au milieu d’elles,

54 That thou mayest bear thy shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, comforting them.

afin que tu portes ta confusion et que tu rougisses de tout ce que tu as fait, en devenant pour elles un sujet de consolation.

55 And thy sister Sodom and her daughters shall return to their ancient state: and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their ancient state: and thou and thy daughters shall return to your ancient state.

Oui, tes soeurs, Sodome et ses filles, reviendront à leur état primitif, et Samarie et ses filles reviendront à leur état primitif, et toi et tes filles, vous reviendrez à votre état primitif.

56 And Sodom thy sister was not heard of in thy mouth, in the day of thy pride,

Est-ce que le nom de Sodome, ta soeur, ne devait pas être une leçon dans ta bouche, au jour de ton orgueil,

57 Before thy malice was laid open: as it is at this time, making thee a reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all the daughters of Palestine round about thee, that encompass thee on all sides.

avant que se manifestât ta perversité, comme au temps des outrages des filles d’Aram et de tous ses environs, des filles des Philistins qui te harcelaient de toutes parts?

58 Thou hast borne thy wickedness, and thy disgrace, saith the Lord God.

Ton infamie et tes abominations, tu les portes, dit l’Eternel.

59 For thus saith the Lord God: I will deal with thee, as thou hast despised the oath, in breaking the covenant:

Oui, ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu, j’agirai envers toi comme tu as agi, toi qui as méprisé le serment et rompu l’alliance.

60 And I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth: and I will establish with thee an everlasting covenant.

Mais moi, je me rappellerai l’alliance conclue avec toi aux jours de ton enfance, et j’établirai avec toi une alliance éternelle.

61 And thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed: when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thy elder and thy younger: and I will give them to thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.

Et tu te rappelleras tes voies et tu seras confuse, quand tu recueilleras tes soeurs, celles qui sont plus âgées que toi et celles qui sont plus jeunes que toi, et que je te les donnerai pour filles, mais non en vertu de ton alliance.

62 And I will establish my covenant with thee: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord,

Je rétablirai, moi, mon alliance avec toi, et tu sauras que je suis l’Eternel,

63 That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and mayest no more open thy mouth because of thy confusion, when I shall be pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord God.

afin que tu te souviennes et que tu aies honte, et que tu ne puisses plus ouvrir la bouche, de confusion, quand je t’aurai pardonné tout ce que tu as fait, dit le Seigneur Dieu."
