< Deuteronomy 9 >
1 Hear, O Israel: Thou shalt go over the Jordan this day; to possess nations very great, and stronger than thyself, cities great, and walled up to the sky,
Gbọ́, ìwọ Israẹli. Báyìí, ẹ̀yin ti gbáradì láti la Jordani kọjá, láti lọ gba ilẹ̀ àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè tí wọ́n tóbi, tí wọ́n sì lágbára jù yín lọ, tí wọ́n ní àwọn ìlú ńlá ńlá, tí odi wọn kan ọ̀run.
2 A People great and tall, the sons of the Enacims, whom thou hast seen, and heard of, against whom no man is able to stand.
Àwọn ènìyàn náà lágbára wọ́n sì ga àní àwọn ọmọ Anaki ni wọ́n. Ẹ gbọ́ nípa wọn, ẹ sì gbọ́ tí àwọn ènìyàn ń sọ nípa wọn pé, “Ta ni ó le è dojú ìjà kọ àwọn ọmọ Anaki (òmíràn)?”
3 Thou shalt know therefore this day that the Lord thy God himself will pass over before thee, a devouring and consuming fire, to destroy and extirpate and bring them to nothing before thy face quickly, as he hath spoken to thee.
Ṣùgbọ́n kí ó dá a yín lójú lónìí pé Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín ni ó ń ṣáájú u yín lọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí iná ajónirun. Yóò jó wọn run, yóò sì tẹ orí wọn ba níwájú yín. Ẹ̀yin yóò sì lé wọ́n jáde, ẹ̀yin yóò sì run wọ́n kíákíá, bí Olúwa ti ṣèlérí fún un yín.
4 Say not in thy heart, when the Lord thy God shall have destroyed them in thy sight: For my justice hath the Lord brought me in to possess this land, whereas these nations are destroyed for their wickedness.
Lẹ́yìn tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín bá ti lé wọn jáde níwájú u yín, ẹ má ṣe wí fún ara yín pé, “Torí òdodo mi ní Olúwa ṣe mú mi wá síbí láti gba ilẹ̀ náà.” Rárá, ṣùgbọ́n nítorí ìwà búburú àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè wọ̀nyí ni Olúwa yóò ṣe lé wọn jáde níwájú u yín.
5 For it is not for thy justices, and the uprightness of thy heart that thou shalt go in to possess their lands: but because they have done wickedly, they are destroyed at thy coming in: and that the Lord might accomplish his word, which he promised by oath to thy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Kì í ṣe nítorí òdodo yín, tàbí ìdúró ṣinṣin ni ẹ ó fi wọ ìlú wọn lọ láti gba ilẹ̀ wọn, ṣùgbọ́n nítorí ìwà búburú àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè wọ̀nyí ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín yóò fi lé wọn jáde kúrò níwájú u yín láti lè mú ohun tí ó búra fún àwọn baba ṣẹ: fún Abrahamu, Isaaki àti Jakọbu.
6 Know therefore that the Lord thy God giveth thee not this excellent land in possession for thy justices, for thou art a very stiffnecked people.
Ṣùgbọ́n kí ó yé yín pé kì í ṣe nítorí òdodo yín ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín fi ń fún un yín ní ilẹ̀ rere náà, láti ní, nítorí pé ènìyàn ọlọ́rùn líle ni ẹ jẹ́.
7 Remember, and forget not how then provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that thou camest out of Egypt unto this place, thou hast always strove against the Lord.
Ẹ rántí, ẹ má sì ṣe gbàgbé bí ẹ̀yin ti mú Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín bínú ní aginjù. Láti ọjọ́ ti ẹ tí kúrò ní Ejibiti ni ẹ̀yin ti ń ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Olúwa títí tí ẹ̀yin fi dé ìhín yìí.
8 For in Horeb also thou didst provoke him, and he was angry, and would have destroyed thee,
Ní Horebu ẹ̀yin ti mú kí Olúwa bínú, títí dé bi pé ó fẹ́ run yín.
9 When I went up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which the Lord made with you: and I continued in the mount forty days and nights, neither eating bread, nor drinking water.
Nígbà tí mo gòkè lọ láti lọ gba wàláà òkúta, wàláà májẹ̀mú ti Olúwa ti bá a yín dá. Ogójì ọ̀sán àti òru ni mo fi wà lórí òkè náà, èmi kò fẹnu kan oúnjẹ bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ń kò mu omi.
10 And the Lord gave me two tables of stone written with the finger of God, and containing all the words that he spoke to you in the mount from the midst of the Are, when the people were assembled together.
Olúwa fún mi ní wàláà òkúta méjì tí a fi ìka Ọlọ́run kọ. Lórí wọn ni a kọ àwọn òfin tí Ọlọ́run sọ fún un yín lórí òkè láàrín iná, ní ọjọ́ ìpéjọpọ̀ sí.
11 And when forty days were passed, and as many nights, the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant,
Lópin ogójì ọ̀sán àti òru wọ̀nyí, Olúwa fún mi ní sílétì òkúta méjì, wàláà òkúta májẹ̀mú náà.
12 And said to me: Arise, and go down from hence quickly: for thy people, which thou hast brought out of Egypt, have quickly forsaken the way that thou hast shewn them, and have made to themselves a molten idol.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Olúwa sọ fún mi pé, “Sọ̀kalẹ̀ kúrò níhìn-ín kíákíá, torí pé àwọn ènìyàn rẹ tí o mú jáde láti Ejibiti ti hùwà ìbàjẹ́. Wọ́n ti yípadà kúrò, nínú ọ̀nà mi, wọ́n sì ti ṣe ère dídá fún ara wọn.”
13 And again the Lord said to me: I see that this people is stiffnecked:
Olúwa sì sọ fún mi pé, “Mo ti rí àwọn ènìyàn wọ̀nyí pé ènìyàn ọlọ́rùn líle gbá à ni wọ́n.
14 Let me alone that I may destroy them, and abolish their name from under heaven, and set thee over a nation, that is greater and stronger than this.
Fi mí sílẹ̀, jẹ́ kí n run wọ́n, kí n sì pa orúkọ wọn rẹ́ kúrò lábẹ́ ọ̀run. Èmi yóò sì sọ ọ́ di orílẹ̀-èdè tí ó lágbára tí ó sì pọ̀jù wọ́n lọ.”
15 And when I came down from the burning mount, and held the two tables of the covenant with both hands,
Báyìí ni mo yípadà, tí mó sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ láti orí òkè náà wá, orí òkè tí o ń yọ iná. Àwọn wàláà májẹ̀mú méjèèjì sì wà lọ́wọ́ mi.
16 And saw that you had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made to yourselves a molten calf, and had quickly forsaken his way, which he had shewn you:
Ìgbà tí mo ṣàkíyèsí, mo rí i pé ẹ ti dẹ́ṣẹ̀ sí Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín. Ẹ ti ṣe ère òrìṣà ní ìrí ọ̀dọ́ màlúù, fún ara yín. Ẹ ti yípadà kánkán kúrò nínú ọ̀nà tí Olúwa ti pàṣẹ fún un yín.
17 I cast the tables out of my hands, and broke them in your sight.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mó ju wàláà méjèèjì náà mọ́lẹ̀, mo sì fọ́ wọn sí wẹ́wẹ́ lójú u yín.
18 And I fell down before the Lord as before, forty days and nights neither eating bread, nor drinking water, for all your sins, which you had committed against the Lord, and had provoked him to wrath:
Lẹ́yìn náà mo tún wólẹ̀ níwájú Olúwa fún ogójì ọ̀sán àti ogójì òru, èmi kò jẹ oúnjẹ kankan bẹ́ẹ̀ ni èmi kò mu omi, nítorí gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tí ẹ tí dá, tí ẹ sì ń ṣe búburú lójú Olúwa, tí ẹ sì ń mú u bínú.
19 For I feared his indignation and anger, wherewith being moved against you, he would have destroyed you. And the Lord heard me this time also.
Mo bẹ̀rù ìbínú àti ìrunú Olúwa, nítorí pé inú bí i sí i yín dé bi wí pé ó fẹ́ pa yín run. Ṣùgbọ́n Olúwa tún fetí sí mi lẹ́ẹ̀kan sí i.
20 And he was exceeding angry against Aaron also, and would have destroyed him, and I prayed in like manner for him.
Inú sì bí Olúwa sí Aaroni láti pa á run, nígbà náà ni mo tún gbàdúrà fún Aaroni náà.
21 And your sin that you had committed, that is, the calf, I took, and burned it with fire, and breaking it into pieces, until it was as small as dust, I threw it into the torrent, which cometh down from the mountain.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo sì mú ohun tí ó mú un yín dẹ́ṣẹ̀, àní ère ẹgbọrọ màlúù tí ẹ ti ṣe, mo sì fi iná sun ún, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo gún un, mo sì lọ̀ ọ́ lúúlúú bí eruku lẹ́búlẹ́bú, mo sì da ẹ̀lọ̀ rẹ̀ sínú odò tí ń sàn nísàlẹ̀ òkè.
22 At the burning also, and at the place of temptation, and at the graves of lust you provoked the Lord:
Ẹ̀yin tún mú Olúwa bínú ní Tabera, Massa àti ní Kibirotu-Hattaafa.
23 And when he sent you from Cadesbarne, saying: Go up, and possess the land that I have given you, and you slighted the commandment of the Lord your God, and did not believe him, neither would you hearken to his voice:
Nígbà tí Olúwa ran an yín jáde ní Kadeṣi-Barnea, Ó wí pé, “Ẹ gòkè lọ, kí ẹ sì gba ilẹ̀ náà tí mo fi fún un yín.” Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí òfin Olúwa Ọlọ́run yín. Ẹ kò gbẹ́kẹ̀lé e, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ẹ kò gbọ́ tirẹ̀.
24 But were always rebellious from the day that I began to know you.
Láti ìgbà tí mo ti mọ̀ yín ni ẹ ti ń ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Olúwa.
25 And I lay prostrate before the Lord forty days and nights, in which I humbly besought him, that he would not destroy you as he had threatened:
Mo ti wólẹ̀ níwájú Olúwa fún ogójì ọ̀sán àti òru wọ̀nyí nítorí pé Olúwa sọ pé Òun yóò pa yín run.
26 And praying, I said: O Lord God, destroy not thy people, and thy inheritance, which thou hast redeemed in thy greatness, whom thou hast brought out of Egypt with a strong hand.
Mo gbàdúrà sí Olúwa wí pé, “Olúwa Olódùmarè, má ṣe run àwọn ènìyàn rẹ, àní ogún rẹ tí o ti rà padà, nípa agbára rẹ tí o sì fi agbára ńlá mú wọn jáde láti Ejibiti wá.
27 Remember thy servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: look not on the stubbornness of this people, nor on their wickedness and sin:
Rántí àwọn ìránṣẹ́ rẹ Abrahamu, Isaaki, àti Jakọbu. Fojú fo orí kunkun àwọn ènìyàn yìí, pẹ̀lú ìwà búburú àti ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn.
28 Lest perhaps the inhabitants of the land, out of which thou hast brought us, say: The Lord could not bring them into the land that he promised them, and he hated them: therefore he brought them out, that he might kill them in the wilderness,
Bí bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, orílẹ̀-èdè tí ìwọ ti mú wa jáde wá yóò wí pé, ‘Torí pé Olúwa kò lè mú wọn lọ sí ilẹ̀ náà tí ó ti ṣèlérí fún wọn, àti pé ó ti kórìíra wọn, ni ó fi mú wọn jáde láti pa wọ́n ní aginjù.’
29 Who are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast brought out by thy great strength, and in thy stretched out arm.
Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ènìyàn rẹ ni wọ́n, ogún rẹ tí o ti fi ọwọ́ agbára rẹ àti nínà ọwọ́ rẹ mú jáde.”
