Deuteronomy 7

1 When the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which thou art going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before thee, the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, seven nations much more numerous than thou art, and stronger than thou:

जब याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें उस देश में प्रवेश करा देंगे, तुम जिस देश पर अधिकार करने पर हो और याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर, तुम्हारे सामने से अमोरियों, कनानियों, हित्तियों, परिज्ज़ियों, हिव्वियों, यबूसियों तथा गिर्गाशियों जैसी अनेक जनताओं को, जो तुमसे अधिक मजबूत और गिनती में तुमसे अधिक हैं, वहां से निष्कासित कर देंगे,

2 And the Lord thy God shall have delivered them to thee, thou shalt utterly destroy them. Thou shalt make no league with them, nor shew mercy to them:

और जब याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर, उन्हें तुम्हें सौंपेंगे और तुम उन्हें हरा दोगे, तब तुम उन्हें पूरी तरह नाश कर दोगे. तुम उनके साथ किसी भी प्रकार की वाचा स्थापित नहीं करोगे, न उनके प्रति किसी प्रकार की सहानुभूति ही दिखाओगे.

3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them. Thou shalt not give thy daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for thy son:

इसके अलावा, तुम उनके साथ वैवाहिक संबंध स्थापित नहीं करोगे; न उनके पुत्रों को अपनी पुत्रियां दोगे और न अपने पुत्रों के लिए उनकी पुत्रियों को अपनाओगे,

4 For she will turn away thy son from following me, that he may rather serve strange gods, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled, and will quickly destroy thee.

क्योंकि वे तुम्हारे पुत्रों को मेरा अनुसरण करने से भटका देंगी, कि तुम पराए देवताओं की उपासना करने लगोगे. तब तो याहवेह का क्रोध तुम पर भड़क जाएगा, और वह बिना देरी के तुम्हें नाश कर देंगे.

5 But thus rather shall you deal with them: Destroy their altars, and break their statues, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven things.

उनके विषय में तुम्हारी नीति यह होगी: तुम उनकी वेदियां ध्वस्त कर दोगे, उनके लिए पवित्र उनके खंभों को तोड़ दोगे, उनके लिए पवित्र अशेराह खंभों को काट डालोगे, और उनकी मूर्तियों को भस्म कर दोगे.

6 Because thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God. The Lord thy God hath chosen thee, to be his peculiar people of all peoples that are upon the earth.

क्योंकि तुम याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर के लिए अलग की गई प्रजा हो, याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने तुम्हें पृथ्वी के सारे राष्ट्रों में से अपनी निज प्रजा होने के लिया चुना है.

7 Not because you surpass all nations in number, is the Lord joined unto you, and hath chosen you, for you are the fewest of any people:

याहवेह ने तुम्हें अपना प्रेम पात्र इसलिये नहीं बना लिया और तुम्हें इसलिये नहीं चुन लिया, कि तुम अन्य राष्ट्रों की तुलना में गिनती में अधिक थे, वस्तुतः तुम तो सभी राष्ट्रों की तुलना में बहुत कम ही थे.

8 But because the Lord hath loved you, and hath kept his oath, which he swore to your fathers: and hath brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao the king of Egypt.

मगर यह इसलिये कि याहवेह ने तुमसे प्रेम किया और अपनी उस प्रतिज्ञा को पूरी की, जो उन्होंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों से शपथपूर्वक की थी. याहवेह ने तुम्हें अपनी समर्थ भुजा के द्वारा निकाला था, दासत्व के जीवन से मुक्त किया; मिस्र के राजा फ़रोह के बंधन से.

9 And thou shalt know that the Lord thy God, he is a strong and faithful God, keeping his covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments, unto a thousand generations:

तब यह समझ लो, कि याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ही, परमेश्वर हैं. वह विश्वासयोग्य परमेश्वर हैं, वह सहस्र पीढ़ी तक अपनी वाचा और अपार प्रेम उन पर स्थायी रखते हैं, जो उनसे प्रेम करते और उनके आदेशों का पालन करते हैं.

10 And repaying forthwith them that hate him, so as to destroy them, without further delay immediately rendering to them what they deserve.

लेकिन वे उन लोगों को दंडित करने और उन्हें नष्ट करने में संकोच नहीं करेंगे, जो उनसे घृणा करते हैं; वे उन लोगों से विलंब न करते हुए मुह तोड़ बदला लेंगे, जो उनसे नफरत करते हैं.

11 Keep therefore the precepts and ceremonies and judgments, which I command thee this day to do.

फिर आज मैं तुम्हें जैसा आदेश दे रहा हूं, तुम उन आदेशों, नियमों और विधियों का पालन करोगे.

12 If after thou hast heard these judgments, thou keep and do them, the Lord thy God will also keep his covenant to thee, and the mercy which he swore to thy fathers:

फिर इसका परिणाम यह होगा कि जब तुमने इन विधियों के प्रति सावधानी रखी और उनका पालन करते रहे हो, तो याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर भी तुम्हारे साथ अपनी वाचा का पालन करेंगे, अपना अपार प्रेम तुम पर बनाए रखेंगे, जैसे उन्होंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों से प्रतिज्ञा की थी.

13 And he will love thee and multiply thee, and will bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy vintage, thy oil, and thy herds, and the flocks of thy sheep upon the land, for which he swore to thy fathers that he would give it thee.

याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुमसे प्रेम करेंगे, तुम्हें समृद्धि देंगे और तुम्हारी गिनती में बढ़ौत्तरी करेंगे. वह तुम्हारे गर्भ के फल को, तुम्हारी भूमि की उपज—तुम्हारे नए अंगूरों के रस और तुम्हारे जैतून के तेल—को आशीषित करेंगे. उस देश में जिसकी प्रतिज्ञा उन्होंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों से की थी, तुम्हारे पशुओं में वृद्धि होती रहेगी और तुम्हारी भेड़-बकरियों के मेमनों में भी वृद्धि होगी.

14 Blessed shalt thou be among all people. No one shall be barren among you of either sex, neither of men nor cattle.

तुम सभी राष्ट्रों की तुलना में अधिक समृद्ध होओगे. तुममें अथवा तुम्हारे पशुओं में कोई भी नर अथवा मादा बांझ न होगी.

15 The Lord will take away from thee all sickness: and the grievous infirmities of Egypt, which thou knowest, he will not bring upon thee, but upon thy enemies.

याहवेह तुम्हारे बीच से सभी रोगों को निरस्त कर देंगे. वह तुम पर मिस्र देश की कोई भी भयंकर बीमारी हावी न होने देंगे, जो तुमने मिस्र देश में देखी थी; मगर वह इन रोगों को उन पर प्रभावी कर देंगे, जो तुमसे घृणा करते हैं.

16 Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.

तुम उन सभी राष्ट्रों को मिटा डालोगे, जिन्हें याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें सौंपने पर हैं. तुम्हारी आंखों में उनके प्रति ज़रा भी कृपा न आएगी और न तुम उनके देवताओं की उपासना करोगे; क्योंकि यही तुम्हारे लिए फंदा हो जाएगा.

17 If thou say in thy heart: These nations are more than I, how shall I be able to destroy them?

यदि तुम्हारे मन में यह विचार आए, “ये जनता तो हमसे अधिक मजबूत हैं. हम कैसे उन्हें यहां से निकालेंगे?”

18 Fear not, but remember what the Lord thy God did to Pharao and to all the Egyptians,

तब तुम उनसे भयभीत न होओगे. सही होगा कि तुम यह याद करो कि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने फ़रोह और सारे मिस्र के साथ क्या किया था.

19 The exceeding great plagues, which thy eyes saw, and the signs and wonders, and the strong hand, and the stretched out arm, with which the Lord thy God brought thee out: so will he do to all the people, whom thou fearest.

खुद तुम्हारे द्वारा देखी गईं वे भयानक विपत्तियां, वे चिन्ह, चमत्कार और मजबूत भुजा और बढ़ाए हुए हाथ, जिसके द्वारा याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर ने तुम्हें निकाल लिया. याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर उन सभी राष्ट्रों के साथ, जो आज तुम्हारे लिए भय का विषय हैं, वही सब करेंगे.

20 Moreover the Lord thy God will send also hornets among them, until he destroy and consume all that have escaped thee, and could hide themselves.

इसके अलावा याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर उनका मन कच्चा कर देंगे, जिससे कि वे, जो बचे हैं और तुमसे छिपे हुए हैं, नाश हो ही जाएंगे.

21 Thou shalt not fear them, because the Lord thy God is in the midst of thee, a God mighty and terrible:

तुम उनसे भयभीत न होओगे, क्योंकि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हारे बीच में हैं, वह, जो सर्वशक्तिमान और भय-योग्य परमेश्वर हैं.

22 He will consume these nations in thy sight by little and little and by degrees. Thou wilt not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon thee.

याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हारे सामने से इन सारी जनताओं को धीरे धीरे खदेड़ते चले जाएंगे. तुम्हारे लिए उन्हें शीघ्रतापूर्वक समाप्‍त करना असंभव होगा, क्योंकि उस स्थिति में वन्य पशुओं की गिनती बहुत बढ़ जाएगी.

23 But the Lord thy God shall deliver them in thy sight: and shall slay them until they be utterly destroyed.

मगर याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर उन्हें तुम्हें सौंपते जाएंगे और उनको बहुत व्याकुल कर देंगे, जिससे वे नाश हो जाएंगे.

24 And he shall deliver their kings into thy hands, and thou shalt destroy their names from under Heaven: no man shall be able to resist thee, until thou destroy them.

याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर, उनके राजाओं को तुम्हारे हाथों में सौंप देंगे, कि तुम पृथ्वी पर से उनका अस्तित्व ही मिटा दो. कोई भी इस योग्य न पाया जाएगा कि तुम्हारा सामना कर सके और तुम उन्हें नाश कर दोगे.

25 Their graven things thou shalt burn with fire: thou shalt not covet the silver and gold of which they are made, neither shalt thou take to thee any thing thereof, lest thou offend, because it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.

तुम उनकी ढली हुई मूर्तियों को दाह कर दोगे. तुम उन मूर्तियों के चांदी और सोने का लालच नहीं करोगे और न इन्हें अपने पास रख लोगे, नहीं तो यह तुम्हारे लिए फंदा सिद्ध होगा, क्योंकि यह याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में घृणित है.

26 Neither shalt thou bring any thing of the idol into thy house, lest thou become an anathema, like it. Thou shalt detest it as dung, and shalt utterly abhor it as uncleanness and filth, because it is an anathema.

तुम कोई भी घृणित वस्तु अपने घर में लेकर न आओगे, नहीं तो तुम खुद उसके समान ही विनाश के योग्य हो जाओगे. तुम इससे पूरी तरह घृणा करोगे, क्योंकि यह वह वस्तु है, जो अशुद्ध है.
