Daniel 1
1 In the third year of the reign of Joakim king of Juda, Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and besieged it.
യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന്റെ മൂന്നാംവർഷത്തിൽ ബാബേൽരാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസർ തന്റെ സൈന്യവുമായി ജെറുശലേമിലേക്ക് വന്ന് അതിനെ ഉപരോധിച്ചു.
2 And the Lord delivered into his hands Joakim the king of Juda, and part of the vessels of the house of God: and he carried them away into the land of Sennaar, to the house of his god, and the vessels he brought into the treasure house of his god.
കർത്താവ് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെ ദൈവാലയത്തിലെ ചില ഉപകരണങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം അവ ബാബേലിൽ തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന്, തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹത്തിൽ വെച്ചു.
3 And the king spoke to Asphenez the master of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed and of the princes,
അതിനുശേഷം രാജാവ് തന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവിയായ അശ്പെനാസിനോട് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ രാജകുടുംബത്തിലും പ്രഭുകുടുംബത്തിലും ഉൾപ്പെട്ടവരും—
4 Children in whom there was no blemish, well favoured, and skillful in all wisdom, acute in knowledge, and instructed in science, and such as might stand in the king’s palace, that he might teach them the learning, and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
അംഗവൈകല്യമില്ലാത്തവരും സുന്ദരന്മാരും സർവവിജ്ഞാനശാഖകളിലും സമർഥരും വിവേകശാലികളും ദ്രുതഗ്രഹണശേഷിയുള്ളവരും രാജാവിന്റെ കൊട്ടാരത്തിൽ പരിചരിക്കാൻ യോഗ്യരുമായ ചില യുവാക്കളെ ഹാജരാക്കാൻ ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു. അവരെ ബാബേല്യരുടെ ഭാഷയും സാഹിത്യവും അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്കാൻ നിർദേശംനൽകി.
5 And the king appointed them a daily provision, of his own meat, and of the wine of which he drank himself, that being nourished three years, afterwards they might stand before the king.
രാജാവിന്റെ മേശയിലെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിൽനിന്നും വീഞ്ഞിൽനിന്നും അവർക്ക് ഓരോ ദിവസത്തെ ഓഹരി നൽകണമെന്നും മൂന്നു വർഷത്തെ പരിശീലനത്തിനുശേഷം അവർ രാജസേവനത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കണമെന്നും രാജാവു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
6 Now there were among them of the children of Juda, Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias.
അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിൽപ്പെട്ടവരായ ദാനീയേൽ, ഹനന്യാവ്, മീശായേൽ, അസര്യാവ് എന്നീ യുവാക്കന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
7 And the master of the eunuchs gave them names: to Daniel, Baltassar: to Ananias, Sidrach: to Misael, Misach: and to Azarias, Abdenago.
ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവി അവർക്കു പുതിയ പേരുകൾ നൽകി. അദ്ദേഹം ദാനീയേലിന് ബേൽത്ത്ശസ്സർ എന്നും ഹനന്യാവിന് ശദ്രക്ക് എന്നും മീശായേലിന് മേശക്ക് എന്നും അസര്യാവിന് അബേദ്നെഗോ എന്നും പേരുകൾ നൽകി.
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not be defiled with the king’s table, nor with the wine which he drank: and he requested the master of the eunuchs that he might not be defiled.
എന്നാൽ രാജാവിന്റെ ഭോജനംകൊണ്ടും അദ്ദേഹം കുടിച്ചിരുന്ന വീഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടും സ്വയം അശുദ്ധനാക്കുകയില്ല എന്ന് ദാനീയേൽ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട്, തനിക്ക് ഇപ്രകാരം അശുദ്ധി സംഭവിക്കാൻ ഇടവരുത്തരുതേ എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവിയോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു—
9 And God gave to Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.
ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവിയുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ ദാനീയേലിന് കൃപയും കരുണയും ലഭിക്കാൻ ദൈവം ഇടവരുത്തി—
10 And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel: I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed you meat and drink: who if he should see your faces leaner than those of the other youths your equals, you shall endanger my head to the king.
എന്നാൽ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവി ദാനീയേലിനോട്, “നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണപാനീയങ്ങൾ സംബന്ധിച്ചു വ്യവസ്ഥ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഞാൻ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. നിങ്ങളുടെ സമപ്രായക്കാരായ യുവാക്കന്മാരുടെ മുഖത്തെ അപേക്ഷിച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം മെലിഞ്ഞതായി അദ്ദേഹം കാണുന്നതെന്തിന്? അങ്ങനെയായാൽ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ തല അപകടത്തിലാകും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
11 And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias:
എന്നാൽ ദാനീയേൽ, ഹനന്യാവ്, മീശായേൽ, അസര്യാവ് എന്നിവർക്ക് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവി നിയമിച്ചിരുന്ന സേവകനോട് ദാനീയേൽ സംസാരിച്ചു.
12 Try, I beseech thee, thy servants for ten days, and let pulse be given us to eat, and water to drink:
“അടിയങ്ങളെ പത്തുദിവസം പരീക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കിയാലും. ഞങ്ങൾക്കു കഴിക്കാൻ സസ്യഭോജനവും കുടിക്കാൻ പച്ചവെള്ളവും തന്നാലും.
13 And look upon our faces, and the faces of the children that eat of the king’s meat: and as thou shalt see, deal with thy servants.
പിന്നീടു രാജഭോജനം കഴിക്കുന്ന യുവാക്കളെയും ഞങ്ങളെയും കാഴ്ചയിൽ താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുക. അപ്പോൾ കാണുന്നതനുസരിച്ച് അടിയങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടാലും.”
14 And when he had heard these words, he tried them for ten days.
അങ്ങനെ ഈ കാര്യത്തിൽ അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷകേട്ട് അദ്ദേഹം പത്തുദിവസം അവരെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി.
15 And after ten days their faces appeared fairer and fatter than all the children that ate of the king’s meat.
പത്തുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവർ കാഴ്ചയിൽ ആരോഗ്യമുള്ളവരായി അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടു. രാജഭോജനം കഴിച്ചിരുന്ന മറ്റ് യുവാക്കളെക്കാൾ പുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവരായി അവർ കാണപ്പെട്ടു.
16 So Malasar took their portions, and the wine that they should drink: and he gave them pulse.
അതുകൊണ്ട് ആ സേവകൻ തുടർന്നും അവരുടെ രാജഭോജനവും അവർ കുടിക്കേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന വീഞ്ഞും നീക്കി അവർക്കു സസ്യഭോജനം നൽകി.
17 And to these children God gave knowledge, and understanding in every book, and wisdom: but to Daniel the understanding also of all visions and dreams.
ഈ നാലു യുവാക്കൾക്ക് ദൈവം എല്ലാ സാഹിത്യ, വിജ്ഞാനശാഖകളിലും അറിവും നൈപുണ്യവും കൊടുത്തു. എല്ലാ ദർശനങ്ങളും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും വിവേചിക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവും ദാനീയേലിന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
18 And when the days were ended, after which the king had ordered they should be brought in: the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nabuchodonosor.
അവരെ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലാൻ രാജാവു നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലാവധി ആയപ്പോൾ, ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥമേധാവി അവരെ നെബൂഖദ്നേസരിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ ഹാജരാക്കി.
19 And when the king had spoken to them, there were not found among them all such as Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Azarias: and they stood in the king’s presence.
രാജാവ് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു; അവരിൽ ഒരാൾപോലും ദാനീയേൽ, ഹനന്യാവ്, മീശായേൽ, അസര്യാവ് എന്നിവർക്കു തുല്യരായി കാണപ്പെട്ടില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ട് അവർ രാജസേവനത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the diviners, and wise men, that were in all his kingdom.
രാജാവ് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ച എല്ലാ ജ്ഞാനവിജ്ഞാനങ്ങളിലും അവർ തന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെങ്ങുമുള്ള ആഭിചാരകരിലും മാന്ത്രികരിലും പതിന്മടങ്ങു മെച്ചമുള്ളവരെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു ബോധ്യമായി.
21 And Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.
കോരെശ് രാജാവിന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന്റെ ഒന്നാംവർഷംവരെ ദാനീയേൽ അവിടെ സേവനത്തിൽ തുടർന്നു.
