Acts 12
1 And at the same time, Herod the king stretched forth his hands, to afflict some of the church.
Um selbige Zeit ließ der König Herodes Hand an einige von der Gemeinde legen und sie peinigen.
2 And he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.
Den Jakobus aber, des Johannes Bruder, ließ er mit dem Schwert hinrichten.
3 And seeing that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to take up Peter also. Now it was in the days of the Azymes.
Und da er sah, daß es den Juden gefiel, fuhr er fort und ließ Petrus in Verhaft nehmen. - Es waren gerade die Tage der ungesäuerten Brote.
4 And when he had apprehended him, he cast him into prison, delivering him to four files of soldiers to be kept, intending, after the pasch, to bring him forth to the people.
Er griff ihn, legte ihn ins Gefängnis und überantwortete ihn einer vierfachen Wache von Kriegsknechten, indem er ihn nach dem Osterfest dem Volk vorführen wollte.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison. But prayer was made without ceasing by the church unto God for him.
Petrus ward in Gewahrsam gehalten, die Gemeinde aber betete inbrünstig zu Gott für ihn.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
Als aber Herodes ihn eben vorführen wollte, schlief Petrus in selbiger Nacht, an zwei Ketten gelegt, zwischen zwei Kriegsknechten, auch hielten Hüter Wache vor der Tür des Gefängnisses.
7 And behold an angel of the Lord stood by him: and a light shined in the room: and he striking Peter on the side, raised him up, saying: Arise quickly. And the chains fell off from his hands.
Und siehe, ein Engel des Herrn erschien, und ein Licht leuchtete in dem Gemach. Er schlug Petrus an die Seite, weckte ihn auf und sprach: Mache dich auf in Eile! und es fielen die Ketten ihm von den Händen.
8 And the angel said to him: Gird thyself, and put on thy sandals. And he did so. And he said to him: Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
Und der Engel sprach zu ihm: Umgürte dich und binde die Sohlen unter! Und er tat also; und er sprach zu ihm: Wirf deinen Mantel um und folge mir!
9 And going out, he followed him, and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel: but thought he saw a vision.
Er ging hinaus und folgte ihm, wußte aber nicht, daß ihm in Wirklichkeit so durch den Engel geschah, sondern meinte, es sei ein Traumgesicht.
10 And passing through the first and the second ward, they came to the iron gate that leadeth to the city, which of itself opened to them. And going out, they passed on through one street: and immediately the angel departed from him.
Sie gingen durch die erste und zweite Wache und gelangten an das eiserne Tor, das nach der Stadt führte, das öffnete sich ihnen von selbst; und sie traten hinaus und gingen eine Gasse weit, und alsbald entwich der Engel von ihm.
11 And Peter coming to himself, said: Now I know in very deed, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Als nun Petrus zu sich kam, sprach er: Nun weiß ich wahrhaftig, daß der Herr Seinen Engel gesandt und mich aus der Hand des Herodes und aus allem Warten des Volkes der Juden gerettet hat.
12 And considering, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, who was surnamed Mark, where many were gathered together and praying.
Und als er sich so besann, kam er an das Haus der Maria, der Mutter des Johannes, mit dem Zunamen Markus, wo viele beisammen waren und beteten.
13 And when he knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, whose name was Rhode.
Als aber Petrus an das Hoftor klopfte, trat eine Magd mit Namen Rhode herzu, um zu hören, wer es sei.
14 And as soon as she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but running in she told that Peter stood before the gate.
Und da sie die Stimme des Petrus erkannte, tat sie vor Freude das Tor nicht auf, lief hinein und verkündete, Petrus stünde vor dem Tor.
15 But they said to her: Thou art mad. But she affirmed that it was so. Then said they: It is his angel.
Sie aber sprachen zu ihr: Du bist von Sinnen. Sie aber bestand darauf, es sei also. Da sagten sie: Es ist sein Engel!
16 But Peter continued knocking. And when they had opened, they saw him, and were astonished.
Petrus aber fuhr fort zu klopfen; da taten sie auf und waren außer sich vor Erstaunen, als sie ihn vor sich sahen.
17 But he beckoning to them with his hand to hold their peace, told how the Lord had brought him out of prison, and he said: Tell these things to James, and to the brethren. And going out, he went into another place.
Er aber winkte ihnen mit der Hand, zu schweigen, und erzählte ihnen, wie ihn der Herr aus dem Gefängnis geführt hätte, und sprach: Verkündet dies dem Jakobus und den Brüdern! Er entfernte sich und begab sich an einen anderen Ort.
18 Now when day was come, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
Als es Tag ward, war kein geringer Schrecken unter den Kriegsknechten, wie es doch mit Petrus ergangen wäre.
19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not; having examined the keepers, he commanded they should be put to death; and going down from Judea to Caesarea, he abode there.
Als Herodes nach ihm sandte und man ihn nicht fand, hielt er Gericht über die Wachen, und ließ sie zum Tode führen, und begab sich von Judäa nach Cäsarea und verweilte allda.
20 And he was angry with the Tyrians and the Sidonians. But they with one accord came to him, and having gained Blastus, who was the king’s chamberlain, they desired peace, because their countries were nourished by him.
Er hatte aber einen Groll wider die Tyrier und Sidonier; diese jedoch erschienen einmütig vor ihm, brachten Blastus, des Königs Kämmerer, auf ihre Seite, und baten um Frieden, weil ihr Land sich von dem des Königs nährte.
21 And upon a day appointed, Herod being arrayed in kingly apparel, sat in the judgment seat, and made an oration to them.
Am anberaumten Tage erschien Herodes im königlichen Gewand und setzte sich auf den Richtstuhl und hielt eine Anrede an sie.
22 And the people made acclamation, saying: It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
Da rief das Volk: Das ist eines Gottes Stimme und nicht eines Menschen!
23 And forthwith an angel of the Lord struck him, because he had not given the honour to God: and being eaten up by worms, he gave up the ghost.
Da schlug ihn alsbald der Engel des Herrn, dafür, daß er nicht Gott die Ehre gab; er ward von den Würmern gefressen und verschied.
24 But the word of the Lord increased and multiplied.
Das Wort Gottes aber nahm zu und mehrte sich.
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled their ministry, taking with them John, who was surnamed Mark.
Barnabas aber und Saulus kehrten, nachdem sie die Handreichung ausgerichtet, zurück nach Jerusalem und nahmen mit sich Johannes, der den Zunamen Markus führt.
