2 Timothy 2

1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace which is in Christ Jesus:

טימותיוס, בני, עליך להתחזק בכוח ובחסד שמעניק לך המשיח.

2 And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men, who shall be fit to teach others also.

למד אנשים אחראיים את דברי האמת אשר שמעת מפי בנוכחות עדים רבים, כדי שבבוא הזמן הם ילמדו את האחרים.

3 Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

קבל את חלקך בסבל למען המשיח, כמוני, כחייל גיבור במלחמת ישוע המשיח.

4 No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses; that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself.

וכחייל של ישוע המשיח אל תתערב יותר מדי בענייני העולם הזה, כדי שתוכל להשביע את רצונו של מי שגייס אותך לצבאו.

5 For he also that striveth for the mastery, is not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

בעשותך את אשר הטיל עליך האדון, עליך לנהוג לפי הכללים שלו. גם הספורטאי לא יזכה בפרס אם לא יתחרה לפי הכללים!

6 The husbandman, that laboureth, must first partake of the fruits.

האיכר החרוץ שמעבד את אדמתו זכאי לאכול ראשון את ביכורי הפרי.

7 Understand what I say: for the Lord will give thee in all things understanding.

חשוב היטב על דברים אלה, ואלוהים יעזור לך להבינם.

8 Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ is risen again from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel.

לעולם אל תשכח את הבשורה שאני מבשר; תקומתו של ישוע המשיח מן המתים, והיותו משושלת דוד המלך.

9 Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer; but the word of God is not bound.

הם כלאו אותי בבית־הסוהר כמו פושע, משום שהפצתי את האמת הזאת, אך דבר האלוהים אינו כלוא!

10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. (aiōnios g166)

אני מוכן לסבול הכול למען בחירי האלוהים, כדי שגם הם ייוושעו ויזכו בכבוד עולמים בישוע המשיח. (aiōnios g166)

11 A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him.

אכן נכון השיר: אם מתנו עם המשיח, גם נחיה איתו;

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.

אם נסבול למענו, גם נמלוך איתו; אם נתכחש אליו, גם הוא יתכחש אלינו;

13 If we believe not, he continueth faithful, he can not deny himself.

אף אם לא נאמין, הוא תמיד נאמן, כי אין הוא יכול לכחש בעצמו.

14 Of these things put them in mind, charging them before the Lord. Contend not in words, for it is to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

הזכר לאנשיך דברים אלה וצווה עליהם, בשם האדון, לא להתווכח על דברים חסרי ערך. ויכוחים כאלה מבלבלים את השומעים ומזיקים להם.

15 Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

שקוד להשביע את רצון ה׳ – כפועל שאין לו כל סיבה להתבייש בעבודתו, וכאדם שיודע להשתמש בדבר האמת בצורה המועילה ביותר.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they grow much towards ungodliness.

התרחק מוויכוחים מטופשים אשר מרגיזים ומכעיסים, וכך מביאים לידי חטא.

17 And their speech spreadeth like a canker: of whom are Hymeneus and Philetus:

ויכוחים מטופשים אלה מתפשטים כמו ריקבון ומכאיבים לאנשים שמעורבים בהם. הומניוס ופיליטוס מעוררים ויכוחים כאלה.

18 Who have erred from the truth, saying, that the resurrection is past already, and have subverted the faith of some.

השניים, שהפנו עורף לאמת, מפיצים את השקר כאילו כבר הייתה תחיית המתים. במעשה זה הם החלישו ובלבלו את אמונתם של אלה שהאמינו להם.

19 But the sure foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal: the Lord knoweth who are his; and let every one depart from iniquity who nameth the name of the Lord.

אולם דבר אינו יכול לערער את אמת האלוהים; היא עומדת איתנה כסלע שעליו חקוק:”יודע ה׳ את אשר לו“. ו”הקורא לעצמו מאמין באלוהים צריך להתרחק מכל רע“.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and earth: and some indeed unto honour, but some unto dishonour.

בבית העשיר יש כלים שעשויים מזהב ומכסף, ויש גם כלים שעשויים מעץ ומחמר. את הכלים היקרים מגישים לאורחים, ואילו בכלים הזולים משתמשים לעבודות המטבח או ככלי אשפה.

21 If any man therefore shall cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified and profitable to the Lord, prepared unto every good work.

כדי להשתייך לחשוב וליקר – להיות חפץ בעל־ערך לבעל הבית – עליך לטהר את עצמך ולהתרחק מכל חטא, ואז יוכל המשיח להשתמש בך למטרותיו הנעלות.

22 But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity, and peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

ברח לך מתאוות הנעורים, והתקרב לכל דבר שמעודד אותך לעשות מעשים טובים. שאף לצדק, לשלום, לאמונה ולאהבה, ובקש את חברתם של האוהבים את אלוהים בלב טהור.

23 And avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strifes.

אני חוזר ואומר: התרחק מוויכוחים טיפשיים וחסרי טעם, אשר רק מרגיזים אנשים וגורמים למריבות.

24 But the servant of the Lord must not wrangle: but be mild towards all men, apt to teach, patient,

המאמין באלוהים אינו צריך לריב עם אחרים, אלא עליו להיות אדיב וסובלני, וללמד את הדרך הטובה לאלה שאינם הולכים בה.

25 With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth,

כשאתה מוכיח את המתכחשים לדבר ה׳, נהג בהם בענווה ובעדינות, כי אז, בעזרת ה׳, הם עשויים לשוב מדרכם הרעה ולהאמין באמת.

26 And they may recover themselves from the snares of the devil, by whom they are held captive at his will.

כך תשוב אליהם בינתם והם יברחו ממלכודת השטן – שלכד אותם כדי שישרתוהו – ויתחילו לעשות את רצון האלוהים.
