2 Samuel 16
1 And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold Siba the servant of Miphiboseth came to meet him with two asses, laden with two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs, and a vessel of wine.
Or, lorsque David eut dépassé un peu le haut de la montagne, parut à sa rencontre Siba, serviteur de Miphiboseth, avec deux ânes, qui étaient chargés de deux cents pains, et de cent grappes de raisins secs, et de cent panerées de figues sèches, et d’une outre de vin.
2 And the king said to Siba: What mean these things? And Siba answered: The asses are for the king’s household to sit on: and the loaves and the figs for thy servants to eat, and the wine to drink if any man be faint in the desert.
Et le roi dit à Siba: Que veut dire cela? Et Siba répondit: Les ânes sont pour les serviteurs du roi, afin qu’ils y montent; les pains et les figues pour nourrir vos serviteurs; mais le vin, pour boire, si quelqu’un tombe en défaillance dans le désert.
3 And the king said: Where is thy master’s son? And Siba answered the king: He remained in Jerusalem, saying: Today will the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.
Et le roi reprit: Où est le fils de ton seigneur? Et Siba répondit au roi: Il est demeuré à Jérusalem, disant: Aujourd’hui la maison d’Israël me rendra le royaume de mon père.
4 And the king said to Siba: I give thee all that belonged to Miphiboseth. And Siba said: I beseech thee let me find grace before thee, my lord, O king.
Le roi dit encore à Siba: Tout ce qui était à Miphiboseth est à toi. Et Siba répondit: Je prie, que je trouve grâce devant vous, mon seigneur le roi.
5 And king David came as far as Bahurim: and behold there came out from thence a man of the kindred of the house of Saul named Semei, the son of Gera, and coming out he cursed as he went on,
Le roi David vint donc jusqu’à Bahurim; et voilà qu’en sortait un homme de la parenté de la maison de Saül, du nom de Séméi, fils de Géra; et sortant, il s’avançait maudissant,
6 And he threw stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people, and all the warriors walked on the right, and on the left side of the king.
Et il jetait des pierres contre David et contre tous les serviteurs du roi David: or, tout le peuple et tous les combattants marchaient à droite et à gauche à côté du roi.
7 And thus said Semei when he cursed the king: Come out, come out, thou man of blood, and thou man of Belial.
Et Séméi parlait ainsi lorsqu’il maudissait le roi: Sors, sors, homme de sang et homme de Bélial.
8 The Lord hath repaid thee for all the blood of the house of Saul: because thou hast usurped the kingdom in his stead, and the Lord hath given the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and behold thy evils press upon thee, because thou art a man of blood.
Le Seigneur t’a rendu tout le sang de la maison de Saül, parce que tu t’es emparé du royaume en sa place; et le Seigneur a mis le royaume en la main d’Absalom ton fils; et voilà que t’accablent tes propres maux, parce que tu es un homme de sang.
9 And Abisai the son of Sarvia said to the king: Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? I will go, and cut off his head.
Alors Abisaï, fils de Sarvia, dit au roi: Pourquoi ce chien mort maudit-il mon seigneurie roi? J’irai, et lui couperai la tête.
10 And the king said: What have I to do with you, ye sons of Sarvia? Let him alone and let him curse: for the Lord hath bid him curse David: and who is he that shall dare say, why hath he done so?
Et le roi répondit: Qu’importe à moi et à vous, fils de Sarvia? Laissez-le maudire; car le Seigneur lui a ordonné qu’il maudisse David. Et quel est celui qui osera dire: Pourquoi a-t-il fait ainsi?
11 And the king said to Abisai, and to all his servants: Behold my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now a son of Jemini? let him alone that he may curse as the Lord hath bidden him.
Et le roi dit à Abisaï et à tous ses serviteurs: Voilà que mon fils, qui est sorti de mes entrailles, cherche mon âme; combien plus maintenant un fils de Jémini! Laissez-le, qu’il maudisse selon l’ordre du Seigneur;
12 Perhaps the Lord may look upon my affliction, and the Lord may render me good for the cursing of this day.
Peut-être que le Seigneur regardera mon affliction, et que le Seigneur me rendra quelque bien pour cette malédiction d’aujourd’hui.
13 And David and his men with him went by the way. And Semei by the hill’s side went over against him, cursing, and casting stones at him, and scattering earth.
C’est pourquoi David allait par son chemin et ses gens avec lui; mais Séméi marchait du même côté, sur la crête de la montagne, maudissant, lançant des pierres contre lui, et répandant de la poussière en l’air.
14 And the king and all the people with him came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
Et ainsi le roi vint, et tout le peuple avec lui, accablé de lassitude, et ils reprirent là des forces.
15 But Absalom and all his people came into Jerusalem, and Achitophel was with him.
Cependant Absalom et tout son peuple entrèrent à Jérusalem, et Achitophel aussi avec lui.
16 And when Chusai the Arachite, David’s friend, was come to Absalom, he said to him: God save thee, O king, God save thee, O king.
Or, lorsque Chusaï, l’Arachite, ami de David, fut venu vers Absalom, il lui dit: Je vous salue, ô roi; je vous salue, ô roi.
17 And Absalom said to him: Is this thy kindness to thy friend? Why wentest thou not with thy friend?
Et Absalom: Est-ce là, lui dit-il, ta reconnaissance envers ton ami? pourquoi n’es-tu pas allé avec ton ami?
18 And Chusai answered Absalom: Nay: for I will be his, whom the Lord hath chosen, and all this people, and all Israel, and with him will I abide.
Et Chusaï répondit à Absalom: Point du tout, parce que je serai à celui que le Seigneur a élu, ainsi que tout ce peuple, et tous ceux d’Israël, et c’est avec lui que je demeurerai.
19 Besides this, whom shall I serve? is it not the king’s son? as I have served thy father, so will I serve thee also.
Mais pour ajouter encore ceci: Qui vais-je servir? N’est-ce pas le fils du roi? Comme j’ai obéi à votre père, ainsi je vous obéirai.
20 And Absalom said to Achitophel: Consult what we are to do.
Or Absalom dit à Achitophel: Délibérez sur ce que nous devons faire.
21 And Achitophel said to Absalom: Go in to the concubines of thy father, whom he hath left to keep the house: that when all Israel shall hear that thou hast disgraced thy father, their hands may be strengthened with thee.
Et Achitophel dit à Absalom: Approchez-vous des femmes de votre père, qu’il a laissées pour garder la maison, afin que, lorsque tout Israël aura ouï que vous avez déshonoré votre père, leurs mains se fortifient avec vous.
22 So they spread a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and he went in to his father’s concubines before all Israel.
Ils dressèrent donc une tente pour Absalom sur la terrasse, et il s’approcha des femmes de son père devant tout Israël.
23 Now the counsel of Achitophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man should consult God: so was all the counsel of Achitophel, both when he was with David, and when he was with Absalom.
Et les conseils qu’Achitophel donnait en ces jours-là, étaient comme si quelqu’un consultait Dieu. Tel était tout conseil d’Achitophel, et lorsqu’il était avec David, et lorsqu’il était avec Absalom.
