2 Chronicles 16
1 And in the six and thirtieth year of his kingdom, Baasa the king of Israel came up against Juda, and built a wall about Rama, that no one might safely go out or come in of the kingdom of Asa.
I det seks og trettiende år av Asas regjering drog Israels konge Baesa op mot Juda og bygget festningsverker i Rama for å hindre enhver fra å dra fra eller til Judas konge Asa.
2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king’s treasures, and sent to Benadad king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying:
Da tok Asa sølv og gull ut av skattkammerne i Herrens hus og kongens hus og sendte det til kongen i Syria Benhadad, som bodde i Damaskus, med de ord:
3 There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father, wherefore I have sent thee silver and gold, that thou mayst break thy league with Baasa king of Israel, and make him depart from me.
Mellem mig og dig er det jo et forbund, som det var mellem min far og din far. Her sender jeg dig sølv og gull; bryt nu ditt forbund med Baesa, Israels konge, så han må dra bort fra mig!
4 And then Benadad heard this, he sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel: and they took Ahion, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the walled cities of Nephtali.
Benhadad lød kong Asa og sendte sine hærførere mot Israels byer, og de inntok Ijon og Dan og Abel-Ma'im og alle forrådshusene i Naftalis byer.
5 And when Baasa heard of it, he left off the building of Rama, and interrupted his work.
Da Baesa hørte dette, holdt han op med å bygge festningsverker i Rama og opgav dette arbeid.
6 Then king Asa took all Juda, and they carried away from Rama the stones, and the timber that Baasa had prepared for the building: and he built with them Gabaa, and Maspha.
Men kong Asa tok hele Juda med sig, og de førte bort stenene og tømmeret som Baesa hadde brukt til festningsarbeidet i Rama, og bygget med det Geba og Mispa om til festninger.
7 At that time Hanani the prophet came to Asa king of Juda, and said to him: Because thou hast had confidence in the king of Syria, and not in the Lord thy God, therefore hath the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.
På den tid kom seeren Hanani til Judas konge Asa og sa til ham: Fordi du satte din lit til kongen i Syria og ikke til Herren din Gud, derfor er syrerkongens hær sloppet ut av dine hender.
8 Were not the Ethiopians, and the Libyans much more numerous in chariots, and horsemen, and an exceeding great multitude: yet because thou trustedst in the Lord, he delivered them into thy hand?
Var ikke etioperne og libyerne en stor hær med stridsvogner og hestfolk i stor mengde? Men fordi du dengang satte din lit til Herren, gav han dem i din hånd.
9 For the eyes of the Lord behold all the earth, and give strength to those who with a perfect heart trust in him. Wherefore thou hast done foolishly, and for this cause from this time wars shall arise against thee.
For Herrens øine farer over all jorden forat han med sin kraft kan støtte dem hvis hjerte er helt med ham. Du har båret dig uforstandig at i dette; for fra nu av skal du alltid ha krig.
10 And Asa was angry with the seer, and commanded him to be put in prison: for he was greatly enraged because of this thing: and he put to death many of the people at that time.
Men Asa harmedes på seeren og satte ham i fangehuset; så vred var han på ham for dette. På samme tid for han også hårdt frem mot andre av folket.
11 But the works of Asa the first and last are written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.
Hvad som er å fortelle om Asa, både i hans første og i hans senere dager, det er opskrevet i boken om Judas og Israels konger.
12 And Asa fell sick in the nine and thirtieth year of his reign, of a most violent pain in his feet, and yet in his illness he did not seek the Lord, but rather trusted in the skill of physicians.
I sin regjerings ni og trettiende år blev Asa syk i føttene, og hans sykdom blev verre og verre; men endog i sin sykdom søkte han ikke Herren, men bare lægene.
13 And he slept with his fathers: and he died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
Og Asa la sig til hvile hos sine fedre og døde i sin regjerings en og firtiende år.
14 And they buried him in his own sepulchre, which he had made for himself in the city of David: and they laid him on his bed full of spices and odoriferous ointments, which were made by the art of the perfumers, and they burnt them over him with very great pomp.
De begravde ham i det gravsted som han hadde latt hugge ut for sig i Davids stad, og la ham på et leie som var fylt med krydderier av forskjellige slag, tillaget slik som det gjøres av dem som lager salve; og de brente et veldig bål til ære for ham.
