1 Samuel 9
1 Now I there was a man of Benjamin whose name was Cis, the son of Abiel, the son of Seror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphia, the son of a man of Jemini, valiant and strong.
Había un hombre de Benjamín que se llamaba Cis, hijo de Abiel, hijo de Zeror, hijo de Becorat, hijo de Afía, hijo de un benjamita, hombre valiente.
2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and goodly man, and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he appeared above all the people.
Tenía un hijo que se llamaba Saúl, un joven impresionante, y no había entre los hijos de Israel una persona más hermosa que él. Desde los hombros hacia arriba era más alto que cualquiera del pueblo.
3 And the asses of Cis, Sauls father, were lost: and Cis said to his son Saul: Take one of the servants with thee, and arise, go, and seek the asses. And when they had passed through mount Ephraim,
Los asnos de Cis, padre de Saúl, se perdieron. Kish dijo a su hijo Saúl: “Toma ahora uno de los criados contigo, y levántate, ve a buscar los asnos”.
4 And through the land of Salisa, and had not found them, they passed also through the land of Salim, and they were not there: and through the land of Jemini, and found them not.
Atravesó la región montañosa de Efraín y pasó por la tierra de Salisá, pero no los encontraron. Luego pasaron por la tierra de Shaalim, y no estaban allí. Luego pasó por la tierra de los benjamitas, pero no los encontraron.
5 And when they were come to the land of Suph, Saul said to the servant that was with him: Come, let us return, lest perhaps my father forget the asses, and be concerned for us.
Cuando llegaron a la tierra de Zuf, Saúl dijo a su criado que estaba con él: “¡Ven! Volvamos, no sea que mi padre deje de preocuparse por los asnos y se inquiete por nosotros”.
6 And he said to him: Behold there is a man of God in this city, a famous man: all that he saith, cometh certainly to pass. Now therefore let us go thither, perhaps he may tell us of our way, for which we are come.
El criado le dijo: “He aquí que hay un hombre de Dios en esta ciudad, y es un hombre al que se le tiene en honor. Todo lo que él dice, ciertamente sucede. Ahora vayamos allí. Tal vez él pueda indicarnos el camino a seguir”.
7 And Saul said to his servant: Behold we will go: but what shall we carry to the man of God? the bread is spent in our bags: and we have no present to make to the man of God, nor any thing at all.
Entonces Saúl dijo a su criado: “Pero si vamos, ¿qué le vamos a llevar al hombre? Porque el pan se ha gastado en nuestros sacos, y no hay regalo que llevar al hombre de Dios. ¿Qué tenemos?”
8 The servant answered Saul again, and said: Behold there is found in my hand the fourth part of a sicle of silver, let us give it to the man of God, that he may tell us our way.
El criado volvió a responder a Saúl y le dijo: “Mira, tengo en mi mano la cuarta parte de un siclo de plata. Se lo daré al hombre de Dios, para que nos indique nuestro camino”.
9 Now in time past, in Israel when a man went to consult God he spoke thus: Come, let us go to the seer. For he that is now called a prophet, in time past was called a seer.
(En tiempos anteriores en Israel, cuando un hombre iba a consultar a Dios, decía: “¡Ven! Vayamos al vidente”; pues el que ahora se llama profeta, antes se llamaba vidente).
10 And Saul said to his servant: Thy word is very good, come, let us go. And they went into the city, where the man of God was.
Entonces Saúl dijo a su criado: “Bien dicho. Ven. Vamos”. Y fueron a la ciudad donde estaba el hombre de Dios.
11 And when they went up the ascent to the city, they found maids coming out to draw water, and they said to them: Is the seer here?
Mientras subían la cuesta de la ciudad, encontraron a unas jóvenes que salían a sacar agua, y les dijeron: “¿Está aquí el vidente?”
12 They answered and said to them: He is: behold he is before you, make haste now: for he came today into the city, for there is a sacrifice of the people today in the high place.
Ellos les respondieron y dijeron: “Es él. Mirad, está delante de vosotros. Daos prisa, porque ha venido hoy a la ciudad; porque el pueblo tiene hoy un sacrificio en el lugar alto.
13 As soon as you come into the city, you shall immediately find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat till he come: because he blesseth the victim, and afterwards they eat that are invited. Now therefore go up, for today you shall find him.
En cuanto hayáis entrado en la ciudad, lo encontraréis inmediatamente antes de que suba al lugar alto a comer; porque el pueblo no comerá hasta que él llegue, porque él bendice el sacrificio. Después comen los invitados. Ahora, pues, sube; porque a esta hora lo encontrarás”.
14 And they went up into the city. And when they were walking in the midst of the city, behold Samuel was coming out over against them, to go up to the high place.
Subieron a la ciudad. Cuando llegaron a la ciudad, he aquí que Samuel salió hacia ellos para subir al lugar alto.
15 Now the Lord had revealed to the ear of Samuel the day before Saul came, saying:
Un día antes de que llegara Saúl, Yahvé se lo había revelado a Samuel, diciendo:
16 Tomorrow about this same hour I will send thee a man of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be ruler over my people Israel: and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked down upon my people, because their cry is come to me.
“Mañana a esta hora te enviaré un hombre de la tierra de Benjamín, y lo ungirás para que sea príncipe de mi pueblo Israel. Él salvará a mi pueblo de la mano de los filisteos; porque yo he mirado a mi pueblo, porque su clamor ha llegado hasta mí.”
17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him: Behold the man, of whom I spoke to thee, this man shall reign over my people.
Cuando Samuel vio a Saúl, Yahvé le dijo: “¡Mira al hombre del que te hablé! Él tendrá autoridad sobre mi pueblo”.
18 And Saul came to Samuel in the midst of the gate and said: Tell me, I pray thee, where is the house of the seer?
Entonces Saúl se acercó a Samuel en la puerta y le dijo: “Por favor, dime dónde está la casa del vidente”.
19 And Samuel answered Saul, saying: I am the seer, go up before me to the high place, that you may eat with me today, and I will let thee go in the morning: and tell thee all that is in thy heart.
Samuel respondió a Saúl y le dijo: “Yo soy el vidente. Sube delante de mí al lugar alto, porque hoy vas a comer conmigo. Por la mañana te dejaré ir y te diré todo lo que hay en tu corazón.
20 And as for the asses, which were lost three days ago, be not solicitous, because they are found. And for whom shall be all the best things of Israel? Shall they not be for thee and for all thy father’s house?
En cuanto a tus asnos que se perdieron hace tres días, no te preocupes por ellos, pues han sido encontrados. ¿Por quién desea todo Israel? ¿No eres tú y toda la casa de tu padre?”
21 And Saul answering, said: Am not I a son of Jemini of the least tribe of Israel, and my kindred the last among all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then hast thou spoken this word to me?
Saúl respondió: “¿No soy yo un benjamita, de la más pequeña de las tribus de Israel? ¿Y mi familia la más pequeña de todas las familias de la tribu de Benjamín? ¿Por qué, pues, me hablas así?”
22 Then Samuel taking Saul and his servant, brought them into the parlour, and gave them a place at the head of them that were invited. For there were about thirty men.
Samuel tomó a Saúl y a su criado y los llevó a la sala de invitados, y los hizo sentarse en el mejor lugar entre los invitados, que eran unas treinta personas.
23 And Samuel said to the cook: Bring the portion, which I gave thee, and commanded thee to set it apart by thee.
Samuel dijo al cocinero: “Trae la porción que te di, de la que te dije: “Apártala””.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said: Behold what is left, set it before thee, and eat: because it was kept of purpose for thee, when I invited the people. And Saul ate with Samuel that day.
El cocinero tomó el muslo y lo que había en él, y lo puso delante de Saúl. Samuel dijo: “¡Mira lo que se ha reservado! Ponlo delante de ti y come; porque te ha sido reservado para el tiempo señalado, pues yo dije: ‘He invitado al pueblo’.” Así que Saúl comió con Samuel aquel día.
25 And they went down from the high place into the town, and he spoke with Saul upon the top of the house: and he prepared a bed for Saul on the top of the house, and he slept.
Cuando bajaron del lugar alto a la ciudad, habló con Saúl en el terrado.
26 And when they were risen in the morning, and it began now to be light, Samuel called Saul on the top of the house, saying: Arise, that I may let thee go. And Saul arose: and they went out both of them, to wit, he and Samuel.
Se levantaron temprano, y cerca del amanecer, Samuel llamó a Saúl en el terrado, diciendo: “Levántate, para que te despache”. Saúl se levantó, y ambos salieron fuera, él y Samuel, juntos.
27 And as they were going down in the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul: Speak to the servant to go before us, and pass on: but stand thou still a while, that I may tell thee the word of the Lord.
Cuando bajaban al final de la ciudad, Samuel dijo a Saúl: “Dile al criado que se adelante a nosotros.” Él se adelantó, y entonces Samuel le dijo: “Pero quédate quieto primero, para que te haga escuchar el mensaje de Dios”.
