1 Samuel 20
1 But David fled from Najoth, which is in Ramatha, and came and said to Jonathan: What have I done? what is my iniquity, and what is my sin against thy father, that he seeketh my life?
১পরে দায়ূদ রামার নায়োৎ থেকে পালিয়ে যোনাথনের কাছে গেলেন এবং তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কি করেছি? আমার দোষ কি? তোমার বাবার বিরুদ্ধে আমি কি পাপ করেছি যে, তিনি আমাকে মেরে ফেলবার চেষ্টা করেছেন?”
2 And he said to him: God forbid, thou shalt not die: for my father will do nothing great or little, without first telling me: hath then my father hid this word only from me? no, this shall not be.
২যোনাথন বললেন, “এমন না হোক, তুমি মরবে না। দেখ, আমার বাবা আমাকে না জানিয়ে ছোট বড় কোন কাজই করেন না। তবে এই কথা তিনি আমার কাছ থেকে কেন লুকাবেন? এ হতেই পারে না।”
3 And he swore again to David. And David said: Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, and he will say: Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved. But truly as the Lord liveth, and thy soul liveth, there is but one step (as I may say) between me and death.
৩তাতে দায়ূদ আবার দিব্যি করে বললেন, “তোমার বাবা খুব ভাল করেই জানেন যে, আমি তোমার দৃষ্টিতে অনুগ্রহ পেয়েছি। তাই হয়তো তিনি মনে মনে ভেবেছেন, যোনাথনকে এই বিষয়ে না জানানোই ভাল, যদি সে দুঃখ পায়। কিন্তু জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি এবং তোমার প্রাণের দিব্যি দিয়ে আমি বলছি যে, মৃত্যু আমার কাছ থেকে মাত্র এক পা দূরে।”
4 And Jonathan said to David: Whatsoever thy soul shall say to me, I will do for thee.
৪যোনাথন দায়ূদকে বললেন, “তোমার প্রাণ যা বলবে আমি তোমার জন্য তাই করব।”
5 And David said to Jonathan: Behold tomorrow is the new moon, and I according to custom am wont to sit beside the king to eat: let me go then that I may be hid in the field till the evening of the third day.
৫তখন দায়ূদ যোনাথনকে বললেন, “দেখ, কাল অমাবস্যার উৎসব। রাজার সঙ্গে আমার খেতে বসতেই হবে। কিন্তু তুমি আমাকে যেতে দাও। আমি পরশু সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত মাঠের মধ্যে লুকিয়ে থাকব।
6 If thy father look and inquire for me, thou shalt answer him: David asked me that he might run to Bethlehem his own city: because there are solemn sacrifices there for all his tribe.
৬যদি তোমার বাবা আমার খোঁজ করেন তবে তুমি তাঁকে বলবে, ‘দায়ূদ বৈৎলেহমে তার বাড়িতে তাড়াতাড়ি যাবে বলে আমার কাছে মিনতি করে অনুমতি চেয়েছিল, কারণ সেখানে তাদের বংশের জন্য বাৎসরিক যজ্ঞ হচ্ছে।’
7 If he shall say, It is well: thy servant shall have peace: but if he be angry, know that his malice is come to its height.
৭তিনি যদি বলেন, ‘ভাল,’ তবে তোমার দাস আমি নিরাপদ; কিন্তু যদি খুব রেগে ওঠেন তবে তুমি জেনো যে, তিনি আমার ক্ষতি করবেন বলে ঠিক করে রেখেছেন।
8 Deal mercifully then with thy servant: for thou hast brought me thy servant into a covenant of the Lord with thee. But if there be any iniquity in me, do thou kill me, and bring me not in to thy father.
৮তাই তুমি এখন আমার প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত হও, কারণ সদাপ্রভুকে সাক্ষী রেখে তুমি আমার সঙ্গে একটা চুক্তি করেছ। আমি যদি দোষ করে থাকি তবে তুমি নিজেই আমাকে মেরে ফেল, তুমি কেন তোমার বাবার কাছে আমাকে নিয়ে যাবে?”
9 And Jonathan said: Far be this from thee: for if I should certainly know that evil is determined by my father against thee, I could do no otherwise than tell thee.
৯যোনাথন বললেন, “তুমি কখনও এমন চিন্তা কোরো না। যদি আমি জানতে পারি যে, আমার বাবা তোমার ক্ষতি করাই স্থির করেছেন, তবে নিশ্চয়ই আমি কি তা তোমাকে জানাব না?”
10 And David answered Jonathan: Who shall bring me word, if thy father should answer thee harshly concerning me?
১০তখন দায়ূদ বললেন, “এই ব্যাপারে তোমার বাবা যদি তোমার সঙ্গে খারাপ ব্যবহার করেন, তবে কে তা আমাকে জানাবে?”
11 And Jonathan said to David: Come and let us go out into the field. And when they were both of them gone out into the field,
১১যোনাথন বললেন, “চল, আমরা মাঠে যাই।” এই বলে তাঁরা দুইজনে বের হয়ে একসঙ্গে মাঠে গেলেন।
12 Jonathan said to David: O Lord God of Israel, if I shall discover my father’s mind, tomorrow or the day after, and there be any thing good for David, and I send not immediately to thee, and make it known to thee,
১২তারপর যোনাথন দায়ূদকে বললেন, “ইস্রায়েলীয়দের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু সাক্ষী, কাল কিম্বা পরশু এই দিনের আমি আমার বাবার সঙ্গে কথা বলে দেখব। যদি তোমার পক্ষে ভাল বুঝি তবে আমি তখনই লোক পাঠিয়ে তোমাকে জানাব।
13 May the Lord do so and so to Jonathan and add still more. But if my father shall continue in malice against thee, I will discover it to thy ear, and will send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace, and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
১৩যদি আমার বাবা তোমার ক্ষতি করতে চান আর আমি তোমাকে না জানাই এবং নিরাপদে তোমাকে পাঠিয়ে দেবার ব্যবস্থা না করি তবে সদাপ্রভু যেন আমাকে শাস্তি দেন এবং তার থেকেও বেশি শাস্তি দিন। সদাপ্রভু যেমন আমার বাবার সঙ্গে ছিলেন তেমনি তোমার সঙ্গেও থাকুন।
14 And if I live, thou shalt shew me the kindness of the Lord: but if I die,
১৪আমি যদি বেঁচে থাকি তবে সদাপ্রভু যেমন বিশ্বস্ত তেমনি তুমি আমার প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থেকো। কিন্তু যদি আমি মারা যাই তবে আমার বংশের প্রতিও কোন ত্রুটি কর না
15 Thou shalt not take away thy kindness from my house for ever, when the Lord shall have rooted out the enemies of David, every one of them from the earth, may he take away Jonathan from his house, and may the Lord require it at the hands of David’s enemies.
১৫চিরকাল বিশ্বস্ত থেকো; এমন কি, সদাপ্রভু যখন পৃথিবীর বুক থেকে দায়ূদের প্রতিটি শত্রুকে শেষ করে দেবেন তখনও বিশ্বস্ত থেকো।”
16 Jonathan therefore made a covenant with the house of David: and the Lord required it at the hands of David’s enemies.
১৬যোনাথন তখন দায়ূদ ও তাঁর বংশধরদের সঙ্গে এই বলে চুক্তি করলেন, “সদাপ্রভু যেন দায়ূদের শত্রুদের উপর প্রতিশোধ গ্রহণ করেন।”
17 And Jonathan swore again to David, because he loved him: for he loved him as his own soul.
১৭যোনাথন দায়ূদকে নিজের মতই ভালবাসতেন বলে তিনি দায়ূদকে দিয়ে তাঁর প্রতি দায়ূদের ভালবাসার শপথ আবার করিয়ে নিলেন।
18 And Jonathan said to him: Tomorrow is the new moon, and thou wilt be missed:
১৮পরে যোনাথন দায়ূদকে বললেন, “আগামীকাল অমাবস্যার উৎসব। সেখানে তোমার আসন খালি থাকলে তুমি যে নেই তা চোখে পড়বে।
19 For thy seat will be empty till after tomorrow. So thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place, where thou must be hid on the day when it is lawful to work, and thou shalt remain beside the stone, which is called Ezel.
১৯তুমি আগে যেখানে লুকিয়ে ছিলে পরশু দিন তাড়াতাড়ি সেখানে গিয়ে এষল নামে বড় পাথরটার কাছে অপেক্ষা কোরো।
20 And I will shoot three arrows near it, and will shoot as if I were exercising myself at a mark.
২০আমি যেন কোন কিছু লক্ষ্য করে তীর ছুঁড়ছি এই ভাবে সেই পাথরের পাশে তিনটে তীর ছুঁড়ব।
21 And I will send a boy, saying to him: Go and fetch me the arrows.
২১তারপর একটা ছেলেকে এই বলে পাঠিয়ে দেব, ‘যাও, তীরগুলো খুঁজে নিয়ে এসো।’ যদি আমি তাকে বলি, ‘তীরগুলো তোমার এদিকে আছে, নিয়ে এস,’ তাহলে তুমি চলে এসো, কারণ জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি তুমি নিরাপদ, তোমার কোন ভয় নেই।
22 If I shall say to the boy: Behold the arrows are on this side of thee, take them up: come thou to me, because, there is peace to thee, and there is no evil, as the Lord liveth. But if I shall speak thus to the boy: Behold the arrows are beyond thee: go in peace, for the Lord hath sent thee away.
২২কিন্তু যদি ছেলেটিকে বলি, ‘তোমার ঐদিকে তীরগুলো রয়েছে,’ তাহলে তুমি চলে যেয়ো, বুঝবে সদাপ্রভুই তোমাকে চলে যেতে বলছেন।
23 And concerning the word which I and thou have spoken, the Lord be between thee and me for ever.
২৩মনে রেখো, তোমার ও আমার মধ্যে এই যে চুক্তি হল সদাপ্রভুই তার চিরকালের সাক্ষী হয়ে রইলেন।”
24 So David was hid in the field, and the new moon came, and the king sat down to eat bread.
২৪এর পর দায়ূদ মাঠে গিয়ে লুকিয়ে থাকলেন। এদিকে অমাবস্যার উৎসব উপস্থিত হলে রাজা অন্যান্য বারের মত দেয়ালের পাশে নিজের আসনে খেতে বসলেন।
25 And when the king sat down upon his chair (according to custom) which was beside the wall, Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, and David’s place appeared empty.
২৫যোনাথন উঠে দাঁড়ালেন যেন অবনের গিয়ে শৌলের পাশে বসতে পারেন। দায়ূদের আসনটা কিন্তু খালি থাকল।
26 And Saul said nothing that day, for he thought it might have happened to him, that he was not clean, nor purified.
২৬শৌল সেই দিন কিছুই বললেন না, কারণ তিনি ভাবলেন, হয়তো এমন কিছু হয়ে গেছে যাতে দায়ূদ অশুচি হয়েছে; নিশ্চয়ই সে শুচি অবস্থায় নেই।
27 And when the second day after the new moon was come, David’s place appeared empty again. And Saul said to Jonathan his son: Why cometh not the son of Isai to meat neither yesterday nor today?
২৭পরের দিন, অর্থাৎ অমাবস্যা-উৎসবের দ্বিতীয় দিনের ও দায়ূদের আসনটা খালি পড়ে রইল। তখন শৌল তাঁর ছেলে যোনাথনকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “যিশয়ের ছেলে খেতে আসে নি কেন? কালও আসে নি, আজও আসে নি।”
28 And Jonathan answered Saul: He asked leave of me earnestly to go to Bethlehem,
২৮যোনাথন উত্তরে বললেন, “দায়ূদ বৈৎলেহমে যাবার অনুমতি চেয়ে আমাকে খুব মিনতি করেছিল।
29 And he said: Let me go, for there is a solemn sacrifice in the city, one of my brethren hath sent for me: and now if I have found favour in thy eyes, I will go quickly, and see my brethren. For this cause he came not to the king’s table.
২৯সে আমাকে বলেছিল, ‘দয়া করে আমাকে যেতে দাও; আমাদের বংশের লোকেদের একটা যজ্ঞ আছে এবং আমার ভাই আমাকে সেখানে উপস্থিত থাকতে আদেশ করেছেন। যদি আমার প্রতি তোমার মনে একটু দয়া থাকে তবে আমাকে গিয়ে আমার ভাইদের দেখে আসবার অনুমতি দাও।’ সেইজন্যই সে মহারাজার ভোজে আসে নি।”
30 Then Saul being angry against Jonathan said to him: Thou son of a woman that is the ravisher of a man, do I not know that thou lovest the son of Isai to thy own confusion and to the confusion of thy shameless mother?
৩০এই কথা শুনে শৌল যোনাথনের উপর রেগে আগুন হয়ে গেলেন। তিনি তাঁকে বললেন, “ওরে বিদ্রোহিনী স্ত্রীলোকের জারজ সন্তান! আমি কি জানি না যে, তুই যিশয়ের ছেলের পক্ষ নিয়েছিস্ আর তাতে তুই নিজের উপর এবং তোর মায়ের উপর লজ্জা ডেকে এনেছিস?
31 For as long as the son of Isai liveth upon earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Therefore now presently send, and fetch him to me: for he is the son of death.
৩১যতদিন যিশয়ের ছেলে এই পৃথিবীতে বেঁচে থাকবে ততদিন তুই স্থির থাকবি না, তোর রাজ্যও স্থির থাকবে না। কাজেই এখনই লোক পাঠিয়ে তাকে আমার কাছে নিয়ে আয়, তাকে মরতেই হবে।”
32 And Jonathan answering Saul his father, said: Why shall he die: what hath he done?
৩২যোনাথন তাঁর বাবাকে বললেন, “কেন তাকে মরতে হবে? সে কি করেছে?”
33 And Saul caught up a spear to strike him. And Jonathan understood that it was determined by his father to kill David.
৩৩তখন শৌল যোনাথনকে মেরে ফেলার জন্য বর্শা ছুঁড়লেন। এতে যোনাথন বুঝতে পারলেন, তাঁর বাবা দায়ূদকে মেরে ফেলবেন বলে ঠিক করেছেন।
34 So Jonathan rose from the table in great anger, and did not eat bread on the second day after the new moon. For he was grieved for David, because his father had put him to confusion.
৩৪তখন যোনাথন ভীষণ রেগে গিয়ে টেবিল ছেড়ে উঠে গেলেন এবং সেই দিনের র ভোজে কিছুই খেলেন না। তাঁর বাবা দায়ূদকে অপমান করেছিলেন বলে তাঁর মনে খুব দুঃখ হল।
35 And when the morning came, Jonathan went into the field, according to the appointment with David, and a little boy with him.
৩৫দায়ূদের সঙ্গে যোনাথনের যে ব্যবস্থা হয়েছিল সেই অনুসারে পরদিন সকালে যোনাথন বের হয়ে মাঠে গেলেন। তাঁর সঙ্গে একটি ছোট ছেলে ছিল।
36 And he said to his boy: Go, and fetch me the arrows which I shoot. And when the boy ran, he shot another arrow beyond the boy.
৩৬তিনি ছেলেটিকে বললেন, “আমি যে তীর ছুঁড়ব তুমি দৌড়ে গিয়ে তা খুঁজে আন।” ছেলেটি যখন দৌড়াচ্ছিল তখন তিনি ছেলেটিকে ছাড়িয়ে সামনের দিকে তীর ছুঁড়লেন।
37 The boy therefore came to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot: and Jonathan cried after the boy, and said: Behold the arrow is there further beyond thee.
৩৭যোনাথনের তীরটা যেখানে পড়েছিল ছেলেটি সেখানে গেলে পর তিনি তাকে ডেকে বললেন, “তোমার ঐদিকে কি তীর নেই।”
38 And Jonathan cried again after the boy, saying: Make haste speedily, stand not. And Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows, and brought them to his master:
৩৮তারপর তিনি চেঁচিয়ে বললেন, “শিগ্গির দৌড়ে যাও, থেমো না।” ছেলেটি তীর কুড়িয়ে নিয়ে তার মনিবের কাছে ফিরে আসল।
39 And he knew not at all what was doing: for only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
৩৯ছেলেটি এই সব বিষয়ের কিছুই বুঝল না, বুঝলেন কেবল যোনাথন আর দায়ূদ।
40 Jonathan therefore gave his arms to the boy, and said to him: Go, and carry them into the city.
৪০এর পর যোনাথন তাঁর তীর-ধনুক ছেলেটির হাতে দিয়ে বললেন, “তুমি এগুলো নিয়ে হিবিয়া শহরে ফিরে যাও।”
41 And when the boy was gone, David rose out of his place, which was towards the south, and falling on his face to the ground, adored thrice: and kissing one another, they wept together, but David more.
৪১ছেলেটি চলে গেলে পর দায়ূদ সেই পাথরটার দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে উঠে আসলেন। তিনি যোনাথনের সামনে মাটিতে মাথা ঠেকিয়ে তিনবার তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন। তারপর তাঁরা একে অন্যকে চুম্বন করে কাঁদতে লাগলেন, তবে দায়ূদই বেশী কাঁদলেন।
42 And Jonathan said to David: Go in peace: and let all stand that we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying: The Lord be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And David arose, and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
৪২পরে যোনাথন দায়ূদকে বললেন, “তুমি নির্ভয়ে চলে যাও, কারণ আমরা সদাপ্রভুর নাম করে একে অন্যের কাছে শপথ করে বলেছি, ‘সদাপ্রভু তোমার ও আমার মধ্যে এবং তোমার ও আমার বংশধরদের মধ্যে চিরকাল সাক্ষী থাকবেন’।” পরে তিনি চলেগেলেন আর যোনাথন শহরে ফিরে গেলেন।
