1 Samuel 17
1 Now the Philistines gathering together their troops to battle, assembled at Socho of Juda, and camped between Socho and Azeca in the borders of Dommim.
Und die Philister sammelten ihre Heere zum Streit und versammelten sich zu Soko, das Juda gehört, und lagerten sich bei Ephes-Dammim, zwischen Soko und Aseka.
2 And Saul and the children of Israel being gathered together came to the valley of Terebinth, and they set the army in array to fight against the Philistines.
Und Saul und die Männer von Israel versammelten und lagerten sich im Terebinthentale, und sie stellten sich in Schlachtordnung auf, den Philistern gegenüber.
3 And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
Und die Philister standen am Berge jenseits, und Israel stand am Berge diesseits, und das Tal war zwischen ihnen.
4 And there went out a man baseborn from the camp of the Philistines named Goliath, of Geth, whose height was six cubits and a span:
Und der Zwischenkämpfer trat aus den Lagern der Philister hervor, sein Name war Goliath, aus Gath; [S. Josua 11,22] seine Höhe war sechs Ellen und eine Spanne.
5 And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clothed with a coat of mail with scales, and the weight of his coat of mail was five thousand sicles of brass:
Und er hatte einen ehernen Helm auf seinem Haupte, und er war mit einem Schuppenpanzer bekleidet, und das Gewicht des Panzers war 5000 Sekel Erz.
6 And he had greaves of brass on his legs, and a buckler of brass covered his shoulders.
Und er hatte eherne Schienen an seinen Beinen und einen ehernen Wurfspieß zwischen seinen Schultern;
7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred sicles of iron: and his armourbearer went before him.
und der Schaft seines Speeres war wie ein Weberbaum, und die Spitze seines Speeres war sechshundert Sekel Eisen. Und der Schildträger ging vor ihm her.
8 And standing he cried out to the bands of Israel, and said to them: Why are you come out prepared to fight? am not I a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose out a man of you, and let him come down and fight hand to hand.
Und er trat hin und rief den Schlachtreihen Israels zu und sprach zu ihnen: Warum ziehet ihr aus, euch in Schlachtordnung aufzustellen? Bin ich nicht der Philister, und ihr die Knechte Sauls? Wählet euch einen Mann, daß er zu mir herabkomme!
9 If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, we will be servants to you: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, you shall be servants, and shall serve us.
Wenn er mit mir zu kämpfen vermag und mich erschlägt, so wollen wir eure Knechte sein; wenn ich ihn aber überwinde und ihn erschlage, so sollt ihr unsere Knechte sein und uns dienen.
10 And the Philistine said: I have defied the bands of Israel this day: Give me a man, and let him fight with me hand to hand.
Und der Philister sprach: Ich habe die Schlachtreihen Israels verhöhnt an diesem Tage! Gebet mir einen Mann, daß wir miteinander kämpfen!
11 And Saul and all the Israelites hearing these words of the Philistine were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
Und Saul und ganz Israel hörten diese Worte des Philisters, und sie erschraken und fürchteten sich sehr.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Juda before mentioned, whose name was Isai, who had eight sons, and was an old man in the days of Saul, and of great age among men.
David nun war der Sohn jenes Ephratiters [W. jenes ephratischen Mannes] von Bethlehem-Juda, dessen Name Isai war und der acht Söhne hatte; und der Mann war in den Tagen Sauls alt, im Alter vorgerückt unter den Männern.
13 And his three eldest sons followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle, were Eliab the firstborn, and the second Abinadab, and the third Samma.
Und die drei ältesten Söhne Isais waren hingegangen, sie waren Saul nachgefolgt zum Streit; und die Namen seiner drei Söhne, die in den Streit gezogen, waren: Eliab, der Erstgeborene, und sein Zweiter, Abinadab, und der Dritte, Schamma.
14 But David was the youngest. So the three eldest having followed Saul,
Und David war der Jüngste, und die drei Ältesten waren Saul nachgefolgt.
15 David went, and returned from Saul, to feed his father’s flock at Bethlehem.
David aber ging hin und kam wieder zurück von Saul, um das Kleinvieh seines Vaters zu weiden zu Bethlehem. -
16 Now the Philistine came out morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
Und der Philister trat morgens und abends herzu und stellte sich hin, vierzig Tage lang. -
17 And Isai said to David his son: Take for thy brethren an ephi of frumenty, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren.
Und Isai sprach zu seinem Sohne David: Nimm doch für deine Brüder dieses Epha geröstete Körner und diese zehn Brote, und bringe sie schnell in das Lager zu deinen Brüdern;
18 And carry these ten little cheeses to the tribune: and go see thy brethren, if they are well: and learn with whom they are placed.
und diese zehn Schnitten Milchkäse bringe dem Obersten über tausend und besuche deine Brüder, um nach ihrem Wohlergehen zu fragen, und nimm ein Pfand von ihnen mit.
19 But Saul, and they, and all the children of Israel were in the valley of Terebinth fighting against the Philistines.
Saul und sie und alle Männer von Israel sind nämlich im Terebinthentale, streitend mit den Philistern. -
20 David therefore arose in the morning, and gave the charge of the flock to the keeper: and went away loaded as Isai had commanded him. And he came to the place of Magala, and to the army, which was going out to fight, and shouted for the battle.
Da machte sich David des Morgens früh auf und überließ das Kleinvieh einem Hüter; und er nahm und ging hin, wie Isai ihm geboten hatte; und er kam an die Wagenburg, als das Heer, das in die Schlachtreihe ausrückte, das Kampfgeschrei erhob.
21 For Israel had put themselves in array, and the Philistines who stood against them were prepared.
Und Israel und die Philister stellten sich auf, Schlachtreihe gegen Schlachtreihe.
22 And David leaving the vessels which he had brought, under the care of the keeper of the baggage, ran to the place of the battle and asked if all things went well with his brethren.
Und David überließ das Gerät, das er trug, der Hand des Hüters der Geräte und lief in die Schlachtreihe; und er kam und fragte seine Brüder nach ihrem Wohlergehen.
23 And as he talked with them, that baseborn man whose name was Goliath, the Philistine, of Geth, shewed himself coming up from the camp of the Philistines: and he spoke according to the same words, and David heard them.
Und während er mit ihnen redete, siehe, da kam der Zwischenkämpfer herauf, Goliath, der Philister, sein Name, von Gath, aus den Schlachtreihen der Philister und sprach nach jenen Worten; und David hörte es.
24 And all the Israelites when they saw the man, fled from his face, fearing him exceedingly.
Und alle Männer von Israel, als sie den Mann sahen, flohen vor ihm und fürchteten sich sehr.
25 And some one of Israel said: Have you seen this man that is come up, for he is come up to defy Israel. And the man that shall slay him, the king will enrich with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house free from tribute in Israel.
Und die Männer von Israel sprachen: Habt ihr diesen Mann gesehen, der heraufkommt? denn um Israel zu verhöhnen, kommt er herauf. Und es soll geschehen, den Mann, der ihn erschlägt, den will der König bereichern mit großem Reichtum, und er will ihm seine Tochter geben, und das Haus seines Vaters will er frei machen in Israel.
26 And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying: What shall be given to the man that shall kill this Philistine, and shall take away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
Da sprach David zu den Männern, die bei ihm standen, und sagte: Was soll dem Manne geschehen, der diesen Philister da erschlägt und den Hohn von Israel abwendet? denn wer ist dieser Philister, dieser Unbeschnittene, daß er die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes verhöhnt?
27 And the people answered him the same words saying: These things shall be given to the man that shall slay him.
Und das Volk sprach zu ihm nach jenem Worte und sagte: So soll dem Manne geschehen, der ihn erschlägt.
28 Now when Eliab his eldest brother heard this, when he was speaking with others, he was angry with David, and said: Why earnest thou hither? and why didst thou leave those few sheep in the desert? I know thy pride, and the wickedness of thy heart: that thou art come down to see the battle.
Und Eliab, sein ältester Bruder, hörte zu, als er zu den Männern redete; und der Zorn Eliabs entbrannte wider David, und er sprach: Warum doch bist du herabgekommen, und wem hast du jene wenigen Schafe in der Wüste überlassen? Ich kenne deine Vermessenheit wohl und die Bosheit deines Herzens; denn um den Streit zu sehen, bist du herabgekommen.
29 And David said: What have I done? is there not cause to speak?
Und David sprach: Was habe ich nun getan? Ist es nicht der Mühe wert [And. üb.: Ist es nicht ein Auftrag?]
30 And he turned a little aside from him to another: and said the same word. And the people answered him as before.
Und er wandte sich von ihm ab, einem anderen zu, und sprach nach jenem Worte; und das Volk gab ihm Antwort nach der vorigen Antwort.
31 And the words which David spoke were heard, and were rehearsed before Saul.
Und die Worte, welche David geredet hatte, wurden gehört und man erzählte sie vor Saul; und er ließ ihn holen.
32 And when he was brought to him, he said to him: Let not any man’s heart be dismayed in him: I thy servant will go, and will fight against the Philistine.
Und David sprach zu Saul: Es entfalle keinem Menschen das Herz seinetwegen! Dein Knecht will gehen und mit diesem Philister kämpfen.
33 And Saul said to David: Thou art not able to withstand this Philistine, nor to fight against him: for thou art but a boy, but he is a warrior from his youth.
Aber Saul sprach zu David: Du vermagst nicht wider diesen Philister zu gehen, um mit ihm zu kämpfen; denn du bist ein Jüngling, er aber ist ein Kriegsmann von seiner Jugend an.
34 And David said to Saul: Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, or a bear, and took a ram out of the midst of the flock:
Da sprach David zu Saul: Dein Knecht weidete das Kleinvieh für seinen Vater; kam nun ein Löwe oder ein Bär und trug ein Stück von der Herde fort,
35 And I pursued after them, and struck them, and delivered it out of their mouth: and they rose up against me, and I caught them by the throat, and I strangled and killed them.
so lief ich ihm nach und schlug ihn und entriß es seinem Rachen; und erhob er sich wider mich, so ergriff ich ihn bei dem Barte und schlug ihn und tötete ihn.
36 For I thy servant have killed both a lion and a bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be also as one of them. I will go now, and take away the reproach of the people: for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, who hath dared to curse the army of the living God?
Sowohl den Löwen als auch den Bären hat dein Knecht erschlagen; und dieser Philister, dieser Unbeschnittene, soll sein wie einer von ihnen, weil er die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes verhöhnt hat!
37 And David said: The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David: Go, and the Lord be with thee.
Und David sprach: Jehova, der mich aus den Klauen [Eig. aus der Hand] des Löwen und aus den Klauen [Eig. aus der Hand] des Bären errettet hat, er wird mich aus der Hand dieses Philisters erretten. Und Saul sprach zu David: Gehe hin, und Jehova sei mit dir!
38 And Saul clothed David with his garments, and put a helmet of brass upon his head, and armed him with a coat of mail.
Und Saul zog David seinen Rock an und setzte einen ehernen Helm auf sein Haupt und zog ihm einen Panzer an.
39 And David having girded his sword upon his armour, began to try if he could walk in armour: for he was not accustomed to it. And David said to Saul: I cannot go thus, for I am not used to it. And he laid them off,
Und David gürtete sein Schwert über seinen Rock und wollte gehen, denn er hatte es nie versucht. Da sprach David zu Saul: Ich kann nicht darin gehen, denn ich habe es nie versucht. Und David legte sie von sich ab.
40 And he took his staff, which he had always in his hands: and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them into the shepherd’s scrip, which he had with him, and he took a sling in his hand, and went forth against the Philistine.
Und er nahm seinen Stab in seine Hand und wählte sich fünf glatte Steine aus dem Bache [O. Tal, trockenes Flußbett] und tat sie in das Hirtengerät, das er hatte, in die Tasche, und seine Schleuder hatte er in seiner Hand; und er trat an den Philister heran.
41 And the Philistine came on, and drew nigh against David, and his armourbearer before him.
Und der Philister ging und kam dem David immer näher, und der Mann, der den Schild [Hier der große, den ganzen Mann deckende Schild] trug, vor ihm her.
42 And when the Philistine looked, and beheld David, he despised him. For he was a young man, ruddy, and of a comely countenance.
Und als der Philister hinschaute und David sah, verachtete er ihn; denn er war ein Jüngling und rötlich, dazu schön von Ansehen.
43 And the Philistine said to David: Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with a staff? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
Und der Philister sprach zu David: Bin ich ein Hund, daß du mit Stöcken zu mir kommst? Und der Philister fluchte David bei seinen Göttern.
44 And he said to David: Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth.
Und der Philister sprach zu David: Komm her zu mir, daß ich dein Fleisch den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren des Feldes gebe!
45 And David said to the Philistine: Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, which thou hast defied.
Und David sprach zu dem Philister: Du kommst zu mir mit Schwert und mit Speer und mit Wurfspieß; ich aber komme zu dir im Namen Jehovas der Heerscharen, des Gottes der Schlachtreihen Israels, den [O. die] du verhöhnt hast.
46 This day, and the Lord will deliver thee into my hand, and I will slay thee, and take away thy head from thee: and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth: that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
An diesem Tage wird Jehova dich in meine Hand überliefern, und ich werde dich erschlagen und dein Haupt von dir wegnehmen; und die Leichname des Heeres der Philister werde ich an diesem Tage den Vögeln des Himmels und dem Wilde der Erde geben; und die ganze Erde soll erkennen, daß Israel einen Gott hat.
47 And all this assembly shall know, that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for it is his battle, and he will deliver you into our hands.
Und diese ganze Versammlung soll erkennen, daß Jehova nicht durch Schwert und durch Speer rettet; denn Jehovas ist der Streit, und er wird euch in unsere Hand geben!
48 And when the Philistine arose and was coming, and drew nigh to meet David, David made haste, and ran to the fight to meet the Philistine.
Und es geschah, als der Philister sich aufmachte und ging und nahte, David entgegen, da eilte David und lief der Schlachtreihe zu, dem Philister entgegen.
49 And he put his hand into his scrip, and took a stone, and cast it with the sling, and fetching it about struck the Philistine in the forehead: and the stone was fixed in his forehead, and he fell on his face upon the earth.
Und David fuhr mit seiner Hand in das Gerät und nahm einen Stein heraus, und er schleuderte und traf den Philister an seine Stirn; und der Stein drang in seine Stirn, und er fiel auf sein Angesicht zur Erde.
50 And David prevailed over the Philistine, with a sling and a stone, and he struck, and slew the Philistine. And as David had no sword in his hand,
So war David, mit der Schleuder und mit dem Steine, stärker als der Philister, und er schlug den Philister und tötete ihn; und David hatte kein Schwert in der Hand.
51 He ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head. And the Philistines seeing that their champion was dead, fled away.
Und David lief und trat zu dem Philister hin, und er nahm sein Schwert und zog es aus seiner Scheide und tötete ihn, und hieb ihm den Kopf damit ab. Als aber die Philister sahen, daß ihr Held tot war, da flohen sie.
52 And the men of Israel and Juda rising up shouted, and pursued after the Philistines till they came to the valley and to the gates of Accaron, and there fell many wounded of the Philistines in the way of Saraim, and as far as Geth, and as far as Accaron.
Und die Männer von Israel und Juda machten sich auf und erhoben ein Geschrei und verfolgten die Philister bis zum Eingang des Tales [W. bis man in das Tal kommt; And. l.: bis nach Gath] und bis zu den Toren von Ekron; und die Erschlagenen der Philister fielen auf dem Wege nach Schaaraim und bis Gath und bis Ekron.
53 And the children of Israel returning, after they had pursued the Philistines, fell upon their camp.
Und die Kinder Israel kehrten um von der Verfolgung der Philister und plünderten ihre Lager.
54 And David taking the head of the Philistine brought it to Jerusalem: but his armour he put in his tent.
Und David nahm das Haupt des Philisters und brachte es nach Jerusalem; seine Waffen aber legte er in sein Zelt.
55 Now at the time that Saul saw David going out against the Philistines, he said to Abner the captain of the army: Of what family is this young man descended, Abner? And Abner said: As thy soul liveth, O king, I know not.
Und als Saul David ausziehen sah, dem Philister entgegen, sprach er zu Abner, dem Heerobersten: Wessen Sohn ist doch der Jüngling, Abner? Und Abner sprach: So wahr deine Seele lebt, o König, ich weiß es nicht!
56 And the king said: Inquire thou, whose son this man is.
Und der König sprach: Frage du, wessen Sohn der junge Mann ist.
57 And when David was returned, after the Philistine was slain, Abner took him, and brought him in before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Und als David vom Erschlagen des Philisters zurückkehrte, da nahm ihn Abner und brachte ihn vor Saul; und das Haupt des Philisters war in seiner Hand.
58 And Saul said to him: Young man, of what family art thou? And David said: I am the son of thy servant Isai the Bethlehemite.
Und Saul sprach zu ihm: Wessen Sohn bist du, Jüngling? Und David sprach: Der Sohn deines Knechtes Isai, des Bethlehemiters.
