1 Samuel 16
1 And the Lord said to Samuel. How It long wilt thou mourn for Saul, whom I have rejected from reigning over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and come, that I may send thee to Isai the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
El Señor le dijo a Samuel: “¿Hasta cuándo llorarás por Saúl, ya que lo he rechazado como rey de Israel? Llena tu cuerno de aceite y vete. Te enviaré a Isaí, el betlemita, porque me he provisto de un rey entre sus hijos”.
2 And Samuel said: How shall I go? for Saul will hear of it, and he will kill me. And the Lord said: Thou shalt take with thee a calf of the herd, and thou shalt say: I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.
Samuel dijo: “¿Cómo puedo ir? Si Saúl se entera, me matará”. Yahvé dijo: “Toma una novilla contigo y di: ‘He venido a sacrificar a Yahvé’.
3 And thou shalt call Isai to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou art to do, and thou shalt anoint him whom I shall shew to thee.
Llama a Isaí al sacrificio, y yo te mostraré lo que debes hacer. Me ungirás al que yo te nombre”.
4 Then Samuel did as the Lord had said to him. And he came to Bethlehem, and the ancients of the city wondered, and meeting him, they said: Is thy coming hither peaceable?
Samuel hizo lo que Yahvé había dicho y llegó a Belén. Los ancianos de la ciudad salieron a su encuentro temblando, y le dijeron: “¿Vienes en paz?”.
5 And he said: It is peaceable: I am come to offer sacrifice to the Lord, be ye sanctified, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Isai and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
Dijo: “Tranquilos; he venido a sacrificar a Yahvé. Santificaos y venid conmigo al sacrificio”. Santificó a Isaí y a sus hijos, y los llamó al sacrificio.
6 And when they were come in, he saw Eliab, and said: Is the Lord’s anointed before him?
Cuando llegaron, miró a Eliab y dijo: “Ciertamente el ungido de Yahvé está delante de él.”
7 And the Lord said to Samuel: Look not on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature: because I have rejected him, nor do I judge according to the look of man: for man seeth those things that appear, but the Lord beholdeth the heart.
Pero Yahvé dijo a Samuel: “No te fijes en su rostro ni en la altura de su estatura, porque lo he rechazado; porque yo no veo como ve el hombre. Porque el hombre mira la apariencia exterior, pero Yahvé mira el corazón”.
8 And Isai called Abinadab, and brought him before Samuel. And he said: Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
Entonces Isaí llamó a Abinadab y lo hizo pasar ante Samuel. Éste le dijo: “El Señor tampoco ha elegido a éste”.
9 And Isai brought Samma, and he said of him: Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
Luego Isaí hizo pasar a Shammah. Dijo: “Tampoco a éste lo ha elegido Yahvé”.
10 Isai therefore brought his seven sons before Samuel: and Samuel said to Isai: The Lord hath not chosen any one of these.
Isaí hizo pasar a siete de sus hijos ante Samuel. Samuel dijo a Isaí: “Yahvé no ha elegido a éstos”.
11 And Samuel said to Isai: Are here all thy sons? He answered: There remaineth yet a young one, who keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said to Isai: Send, and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he come hither.
Samuel dijo a Isaí: “¿Están todos tus hijos aquí?” Dijo: “Todavía queda el más joven. He aquí que está guardando las ovejas”. Samuel dijo a Isaí: “Envía a buscarlo, porque no nos sentaremos hasta que venga”.
12 He sent therefore and brought him Now he was ruddy and beautiful to behold, and of a comely face. And the Lord said: Arise, and anoint him, for this is he.
Envió y lo hizo entrar. Ahora era rubicundo, de rostro apuesto y buena apariencia. Yahvé dijo: “¡Levántate! Ungidlo, porque éste es”.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward: and Samuel rose up, and went to Ramatha.
Entonces Samuel tomó el cuerno de aceite y lo ungió en medio de sus hermanos. Entonces el Espíritu de Yahvé vino poderosamente sobre David desde aquel día. Samuel se levantó y se fue a Ramá.
14 But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.
El Espíritu de Yahvé se apartó de Saúl, y un espíritu maligno de Yahvé lo perturbó.
15 And the servants of Saul said to him: Behold now an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
Los servidores de Saúl le dijeron: “Mira, un espíritu maligno de parte de Dios te perturba.
16 Let our lord give orders, and thy servants who are before thee will seek out a man skillful in playing on the harp, that when the evil spirit from the Lord is upon thee, he may play with his hand, and thou mayest bear it more easily.
Que nuestro señor ordene ahora a sus siervos que están delante de usted que busquen a un hombre que sepa tocar el arpa. Entonces, cuando el espíritu maligno de Dios esté sobre ti, él tocará con su mano, y tú estarás bien”.
17 And Saul said to his servants: Provide me then some man that can play well, and bring him to me.
Saúl dijo a sus siervos: “Proporciónenme ahora un hombre que sepa tocar bien y tráiganmelo”.
18 And one of the servants answering, said: Behold I have seen a son of Isai the Bethlehemite, a skillful player, and one of great strength, and a man fit for war, and prudent in his words, and a comely person: and the Lord is with him.
Uno de los jóvenes respondió y dijo: “He aquí que he visto a un hijo de Isaí, el de Belén, que es hábil en el juego, valiente, hombre de guerra, prudente en la palabra y apuesto; y Yahvé está con él.”
19 Then Saul sent messengers to Isai, saying: Send me David thy son, who is in the pastures.
Por eso Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí y le dijo: “Envíame a tu hijo David, que está con las ovejas”.
20 And Isai took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid of the flock, and sent them by the hand of David his son to Saul.
Isaí tomó un asno cargado de pan, un recipiente de vino y un cabrito, y los envió por medio de su hijo David a Saúl.
21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him exceedingly, and made him his armourbearer.
David llegó a Saúl y se presentó ante él. Lo amaba mucho, y se convirtió en su portador de la armadura.
22 And Saul sent to Isai, saying: Let David stand before me: for he hath found favour in my sight.
Saúl envió a decir a Isaí: “Por favor, deja que David se presente ante mí, porque ha encontrado gracia ante mis ojos”.
23 So whensoever the evil spirit from the Lord was upon Saul, David took his harp, and played with his hand, and Saul was refreshed, and was better, for the evil spirit departed from him.
Cuando el espíritu de Dios estaba sobre Saúl, David tomó el arpa y tocó con su mano; así Saúl se refrescó y se puso bien, y el espíritu malo se alejó de él.
