1 Kings 2

1 And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:

১দাউদের মৃত্যুর দিন কাছাকাছি আসলে, তিনি তাঁর ছেলে শলোমনকে এই সব নির্দেশ দিয়ে বললেন,

2 I am going the way of all flesh: take thou courage, and shew thyself a man.

২“পৃথিবীর সকলেই যে পথে যায় আমিও এখন সেই পথে যাচ্ছি। তাই তুমি শক্তিশালী হও, নিজেকে উপযুক্ত পুরুষ হিসাবে দেখাও।

3 And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and observe his ceremonies, and his precepts, and judgments, and testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses: that thou mayest understand all thou dost, and whithersoever thou shalt turn thyself:

৩তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ মত তুমি তাঁর পথে চলবে এবং মোশির ব্যবস্থায় লেখা সদাপ্রভুর সব নিয়ম, তাঁর আদেশ, তাঁর নির্দেশ ও তাঁর দাবি মেনে চলবে। এতে তুমি যা কিছু কর না কেন এবং যেখানেই যাও না কেন সফল হতে পারবে।

4 That the Lord may confirm his words, which he hath spoken of me, saying: If thy children shall take heed to their ways, and shall walk before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, there shall not be taken away from thee a man on the throne of Israel.

৪যেন সদাপ্রভু যে বিষয় আমার কাছে বলেছেন তা পূরণ করতে পারেন। তিনি বলেছেন, ‘যদি তোমার সন্তানেরা সমস্ত হৃদয়ে ও সমস্ত প্রাণ দিয়ে বিশ্বস্তভাবে আমার সামনে চলাফেরা করবার জন্য সাবধানে জীবন কাটায় তবে ইস্রায়েলের সিংহাসনে বসবার জন্য তোমার বংশে লোকের অভাব হবে না।’

5 Thou knowest also what Joab the son of Sarvia hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the army of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether: whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.

৫সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াব আমার প্রতি যা করেছে এবং ইস্রায়েলীয় সৈন্যদলের দুই সেনাপতির প্রতি, অর্থাৎ নেরের ছেলে অব্‌নের ও যেথরের ছেলে অমাসার প্রতি যা করেছে তা তো তুমি জান। সে তাদের খুন করেছে, শান্তির দিনের ও যুদ্ধের দিনের র মত করে সে তাদের রক্তপাত করেছে আর সেই রক্ত তাঁর কোমর বন্ধনীতে ও পায়ের জুতোতে লেগেছে।

6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to hell in peace. (Sheol h7585)

৬তুমি তার সঙ্গে বুদ্ধি করে চলবে, তবে বুড়ো বয়সে তুমি তাকে শান্তিতে মৃতস্থানে যেতে দেবে না। (Sheol h7585)

7 But shew kindness to the sons of Berzellai the Galaadite, and let them eat at thy table: for they met me when I fled from the face of Absalom thy brother.

৭কিন্তু গিলিয়দের বর্সিল্লয়ের ছেলেদের প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থেকো। তোমার টেবিলে যারা তোমার সঙ্গে খাওয়া দাওয়া করে তাদের মধ্যে তুমি তাদেরও জায়গা দিয়ো। তোমার ভাই অবশালোমের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে যাবার দিন তারা আমার পাশে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছিল।

8 Thou hast also with thee Semei the son of Gera the son of Jemini of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse, when I went to the camp: but because he came down to meet me when I passed over the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying: I will not kill thee with a sword:

৮মনে রেখো, বহুরীমের বিন্যামীনীয়ের গেরার ছেলে শিমিয়ি তোমার সঙ্গে আছে। আমি যেদিন মহনয়িমে যাই সেই দিন সে আমাকে ভীষণ অভিশাপ দিয়েছিল। যর্দনে সে আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করতে আসলে পর আমি সদাপ্রভুর নামে তার কাছে শপথ করেছিলাম যে, আমি তাকে মেরে ফেলব না।

9 Do not thou hold him guiltless. But thou art a wise man, and knowest what to do with him, and thou shalt bring down his grey hairs with blood to hell. (Sheol h7585)

৯কিন্তু এখন তুমি তাকে নির্দোষ বলে মনে কোরো না। তুমি বুদ্ধিমান; তার প্রতি তুমি কি করবে তা তুমি নিজেই বুঝতে পারবে। তার বুড়ো বয়সে রক্তপাতের মধ্য দিয়েই তাকে মৃতস্থানে পাঠিয়ে দেবে।” (Sheol h7585)

10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

১০এর পর দায়ূদ তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের ন্যায় চির নিদ্রায় গেলেন এবং তাঁকে দায়ূদ শহরে কবর দেওয়া হল।

11 And the days that David reigned in Israel, were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, in Jerusalem thirty-three.

১১তিনি ইস্রায়েলের উপরে চল্লিশ বছর রাজত্ব করেছিলেন সাত বছর হিব্রোণে আর তেত্রিশ বছর যিরূশালেমে।

12 And Solomon sat upon the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was strengthened exceedingly.

১২পরে শলোমন তাঁর বাবা দায়ূদের সিংহাসনে বসলেন এবং তাঁর রাজত্ব শক্তভাবে স্থাপিত হল।

13 And Adonias the son of Haggith came to Bethsabee the mother of Solomon. And she said to him: Is thy coming peaceable? he answered: Peaceable.

১৩পরে হগীতের ছেলে আদোনিয় শলোমনের মা বৎশেবার কাছে গেল।

14 And he added: I have a word to speak with thee. She said to him: Speak. And he said:

১৪বৎশেবা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তুমি কি শান্তিভাবে এসেছ?” সে বলল, “হ্যাঁ, শান্তিভাবে এসেছি। আপনাকে আমার কিছু বলবার আছে।” বৎশেবা বললেন, “বল।”

15 Thou knowest that the kingdom was nine, and all Israel had preferred me to be their king: but the kingdom is transferred, and is become my brother’s: for it was appointed him by the Lord.

১৫তখন সে বলল, “আপনি তো জানেন রাজ্যটা আমারই ছিল। সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা আশা করেছিল আমি রাজা হব। কিন্তু অবস্থাটা বদলে গিয়ে রাজ্যটা আমার ভাইয়ের হাতে গেছে, কারণ এটা সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকেই সে পেয়েছে।

16 Now therefore I ask one petition of thee: turn not away my face. And she said to him: Say on.

১৬এখন আপনার কাছে আমার একটা অনুরোধ আছে। আপনি আমাকে ফিরিয়ে দেবেন না।” তিনি বললেন, “বল।”

17 And he said: I pray thee speak to king Solomon (for he cannot deny thee any thing) to give me Abisag the Sunamitess to wife.

১৭সে তখন বলতে লাগল, “আপনি রাজা শলোমনকে বলুন যেন তিনি শূনেমীয়া অবীশগকে আমার সঙ্গে বিয়ে দেন। তিনি আপনার কথা ফেলবেন না।”

18 And Bethsabee said: Well, I will speak for thee to the king.

১৮উত্তরে বৎশেবা বললেন, “বেশ ভাল, আমি তোমার কথা রাজাকে বলব।”

19 Then Bethsabee came to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonias: and the king arose to meet her, and bowed to her, and sat down upon his throne: and a throne was set for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right hand.

১৯বৎশেবা যখন আদোনিয়ের কথা বলবার জন্য রাজা শলোমনের কাছে গেলেন তখন রাজা উঠে তাঁর কাছে গিয়ে তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন এবং তারপর তাঁর সিংহাসনে বসলেন। রাজা তাঁর মায়ের জন্য একটা আসন আনিয়ে তাঁর ডান পাশে রাখলেন এবং তাঁর মা সেখানে বসলেন।

20 And she said to him: I desire one small petition of thee, do not put me to confusion. And the king said to her: My mother, ask: for I must not turn away thy face.

২০বৎশেবা বললেন, “আমি তোমাকে একটা ছোট্ট অনুরোধ করব; তুমি আমাকে ফিরিয়ে দিয়ো না।” উত্তরে রাজা বললেন, “বল মা, আমি তোমাকে ফিরিয়ে দেব না।”

21 And she said: Let Abisag the Sunamitess be given to Adonias thy brother to wife.

২১বৎশেবা তখন বললেন, “তোমার ভাই আদোনিয়ের সঙ্গে শূনেমীয়া অবীশগের বিয়ে দেওয়া হোক।”

22 And king Solomon answered, and said to his mother: Why dost thou ask Abisag the Sunamitess for Adonias? ask for him also the kingdom: for he is my elder brother, and hath Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Sarvia.

২২উত্তরে রাজা শলোমন তাঁর মাকে বললেন, “আদোনিয়ের জন্য কেন তুমি শূনেমীয়া অবীশগকে চাইছ? তুমি তার জন্য রাজ্যটাও তো চাইতে পারতে, কারণ সে আমার বড় ভাই; হ্যাঁ, তার জন্য, যাজক অবিয়াথরের জন্য আর সরূয়ার ছেলে যোয়াবের জন্যও তা চাইতে পারতে।”

23 Then king Solomon swore by the Lord, saying: So and so may God do to me, and add more, if Adonias hath not spoken this word against his own life.

২৩এর পর রাজা শলোমন সদাপ্রভুর নামে শপথ করে বললেন, “এই অনুরোধের জন্য যদি আদোনিয়ের প্রাণ নেওয়া না হয় তবে সদাপ্রভু যেন আমাকে শাস্তি দেন, আর তা ভীষণভাবেই দেন।

24 And now as the Lord liveth, who hath established me, and placed me upon the throne of David my father, and who hath made me a house, as he promised, Adonias shall be put to death this day.

২৪যিনি আমার বাবা দায়ূদের সিংহাসনে আমাকে শক্তভাবে স্থাপিত করেছেন এবং তাঁর প্রতিজ্ঞা অনুসারে আমার জন্য একটা রাজবংশের প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছেন সেই জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি দিয়ে বলছি, আজই আদোনিয়কে মেরে ফেলা হবে।”

25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Banaias the son of Joiada, who slew him, and he died.

২৫তারপর রাজা শলোমন যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে হুকুম দিলেন, আর বনায় আদোনিয়কে মেরে ফেললেন।

26 And the king said also to Abiathar the priest: Go to Anathoth to thy lands, for indeed thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou didst carry the ark of the Lord God before David my father, and hast endured trouble in all the troubles my father endured.

২৬পরে রাজা যাজক অবিয়াথরকে বললেন, “আপনি অনাথোতে নিজের জায়গায় ফিরে যান। আপনি মৃত্যুর যোগ্য, কিন্তু এখন আমি আপনাকে মেরে ফেলব না, কারণ আপনি আমার বাবা দায়ূদের দিনের প্রভু সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুকটা বয়ে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন এবং আমার বাবার সমস্ত দুঃখ কষ্টের ভাগী হয়েছিলেন।”

27 So Solomon cast out Abiathar, from being the priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Deli in Silo.

২৭এই ভাবে শলোমন অবিয়াথরকে সদাপ্রভুর যাজক পদ থেকে সরিয়ে দিলেন। সদাপ্রভু শীলোতে এলির বংশ সম্বন্ধে যা বলেছিলেন তাঁর সেই কথা এই ভাবে পূর্ণ হল।

28 And the news came to Joab, because Joab had turned after Adonias, and had not turned after Solomon: and Joab fled into the tabernacle of the Lord and laid hold on the horn of the altar.

২৮এই সব খবর যোয়াবের কানে গেল। তিনি অবশালোমের পক্ষে না গেলেও আদোনিয়ের পক্ষে গিয়েছিলেন, তাই তিনি পালিয়ে সদাপ্রভুর তাঁবুতে গিয়ে বেদির শিং ধরে থাকলেন।

29 And it was told king Solomon, that Joab was fled into the tabernacle of the Lord, and was by the altar: and Solomon sent Banaias the son of Joiada, saying: Go, kill him.

২৯রাজা শলোমনকে বলা হল যে, যোয়াব পালিয়ে সদাপ্রভুর তাঁবুতে গেছেন এবং বেদির কাছে আছেন। তখন শলোমন যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে এই আদেশ দিলেন, “আপনি গিয়ে তাঁকে মেরে ফেলুন।”

30 And Banaias came to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him: Thus saith the king: Come forth. And he said: I will not come forth, but here I will die. Banaias brought word back to the king, saying: Thus saith Joab, and thus he answered me.

৩০কাজেই বনায় সদাপ্রভুর তাঁবুতে ঢুকে যোয়াবকে বললেন, “রাজা আপনাকে বের হয়ে আসতে বলেছেন।” কিন্তু যোয়াব বললেন, “না, আমি এখানেই মরব।” বনায় রাজাকে সেই খবর জানিয়ে বললেন, “যোয়াব আমাকে এই উত্তর দিয়েছেন।”

31 And the king said to him: Do as he hath said: and kill him, and bury him, and thou shalt remove the innocent blood which hath been shed by Joab, from me, and from the house of my father.

৩১তখন রাজা বনায়কে এই হুকুম দিলেন, “তিনি যা বলেছেন তাই করুন। তাঁকে মেরে ফেলে কবর দিয়ে দিন। যোয়াব যে নির্দোষ লোকদের রক্তপাত করেছেন তার দোষ আপনি আমার ও আমার বাবার বংশ থেকে এই ভাবে দূর করে দিন।

32 And the Lord shall return his blood upon his own head, because he murdered two men, just and better than himself: and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing it, Abner the son of Ner, general of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, general of the army of Juda.

৩২যে রক্তপাত তিনি করেছেন তার শোধ সদাপ্রভু নেবেন, কারণ আমার বাবা দায়ূদের অজান্তে তিনি দুইজন লোককে আক্রমণ করে মেরে ফেলেছিলেন। তাঁরা হলেন ইস্রায়েলের সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি নেরের ছেলে অব্‌নের আর যিহূদার সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি যেথরের ছেলে অমাসা। এই দুইজন ছিলেন তাঁর চেয়ে আরও ধার্মিক এবং আরও ভাল লোক।

33 And their blood shall return the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever. But to David and his seed and his house, and to his throne be peace for ever from the Lord.

৩৩তাঁদের রক্তপাতের দোষ যোয়াবের ও তাঁর বংশের লোকদের মাথার উপরে চিরকাল থাকুক। কিন্তু দায়ূদ ও তাঁর বংশের লোকদের উপর এবং তাঁর পরিবার ও তাঁর সিংহাসনের উপর সদাপ্রভুর শান্তি চিরকাল থাকুক।”

34 So Banaias the son of Joiada went up, and setting upon him slew him, and he was buried in his house in the desert.

৩৪তখন যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায় গিয়ে যোয়াবকে মেরে ফেললেন। তাঁকে মরু এলাকায় তাঁর নিজের বাড়িতে কবর দেওয়া হল।

35 And the king appointed Banaias the son of Joiada in his room over the army, and Sadoc the priest he put in the place of Abiathar.

৩৫রাজা তখন যোয়াবের জায়গায় যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে সেনাপতি হিসাবে নিযুক্ত করলেন এবং অবিয়াথরের জায়গায় বসালেন যাজক সাদোককে।

36 The king also sent, and called for Semei, and said to him: Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there: and go not out from thence any whither.

৩৬তারপর রাজা লোক পাঠিয়ে শিমিয়িকে ডেকে এনে বললেন, “তুমি যিরূশালেমে একটা বাড়ি তৈরী করে সেখানেই থাকবে, অন্য কোথাও তোমার যাওয়া চলবে না।

37 For on what day soever thou shalt go out, and shalt pass over the brook Cedron, know that thou shalt be put to death: thy blood shall be upon thy own head:

৩৭যেদিন তুমি সেখান থেকে বের হয়ে কিদ্রোণ উপত্যকা পার হবে সেই দিন তুমি নিশ্চয় করে জেনে রেখো যে, তোমাকে মরতেই হবে; তোমার রক্তপাতের দোষ তোমার নিজের মাথার উপরেই পড়বে।”

38 And Semei said to the king: The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Semei dwelt in Jerusalem, many days.

৩৮উত্তরে শিমিয়ি রাজাকে বললেন, “আপনি ভালই বলেছেন। আমার মনিব মহারাজ যা বললেন আপনার দাস তাই করবে।” এর পর শিমিয়ি অনেক দিন যিরূশালেমে থাকল।

39 And it came to pass after three years, that the servants of Semei ran away to Achis the son of Maacha the king of Geth: and it was told Semei that his servants were gone to Geth.

৩৯কিন্তু তিন বছর পরে শিমিয়ির দুইজন দাস মাখার ছেলে গাতের রাজা আখীশের কাছে পালিয়ে গেল। শিমিয়িকে বলা হল যে, তার দাসেরা গাতে আছে।

40 And Semei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Achis to Geth to seek his servants, and he brought them out of Geth.

৪০তখন শিমিয়ি তার গাধার উপর গদি চাপিয়ে তার দাসদের খোঁজে গাতে আখীশের কাছে গেল এবং সেখান থেকে তাদের ফিরিয়ে আনল।

41 And it was told Solomon that Semei had gone from Jerusalem to Geth, and was come back.

৪১পরে শলোমনকে জানানো হল যে, শিমিয়ি যিরূশালেম থেকে গাতে গিয়ে আবার ফিরে এসেছে।

42 And sending he called for him, and said to him: Did I not protest to thee by the Lord, and tell thee before: On what day soever thou shalt go out and walk abroad any whither, know that thou shalt die? And thou answeredst me: The word that I have heard is good.

৪২রাজা তখন শিমিয়িকে ডাকিয়ে এনে বললেন, “আমি কি সদাপ্রভুর নামে তোমাকে শপথ করিয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিই নি যে, যেদিন তুমি বেরিয়ে বাইরে দূরে কোথাও যাবে সেই দিন তোমাকে নিশ্চয়ই মরতে হবে? সেই দিন তুমি আমাকে বলেছিলে, যেটা বলেছিলে সেটা ভালো।

43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment that I laid upon thee?

৪৩তাহলে কেন তুমি সদাপ্রভুর কাছে করা দিব্যি ও আমার আদেশ পালন কর নি?”

44 And the king said to Semei: Thou knowest all the evil, of which thy heart is conscious, which thou didst to David my father: the Lord hath returned thy wickedness upon thy own head:

৪৪শলোমন শিমিয়িকে আরও বললেন, “আমার বাবা দায়ূদের প্রতি তুমি যে সব অন্যায় করেছ তা তো তোমার অন্তর জানে। এখন সদাপ্রভুই তোমাকে তোমার অন্যায় কাজের প্রতিফল দেবেন।

45 And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the Lord for ever.

৪৫কিন্তু রাজা শলোমনের উপরে আশীর্বাদ থাকবে, আর দায়ূদের সিংহাসন সদাপ্রভুর সামনে চিরকাল অটল থাকবে।”

46 So the king commanded Banaias the son of Joiada: and he went out and struck him, and he died.

৪৬এর পর রাজা যিহোয়াদার ছেলে বনায়কে হুকুম দিলেন আর বনায় গিয়ে শিমিয়িকে মেরে ফেললেন। এই ভাবে শলোমনের হাতে রাজ্যটা ভালোভাবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হল।
