< 1 Kings 18 >
1 After many days the word of the Lord came to Elias, in the third year, saying: Go and shew thyself to Achab, that I may give rain upon the face of the earth.
Ó sì ṣe, lẹ́yìn ọjọ́ púpọ̀, ní ọdún kẹta, ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ Elijah wá pé, “Lọ, kí o sì fi ara rẹ̀ hàn fún Ahabu, èmi yóò sì rọ òjò sórí ilẹ̀.”
2 And Elias went to shew himself to Achab, and there was a grievous famine in Samaria.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Elijah lọ fi ara rẹ̀ han Ahabu. Ìyàn ńlá sì mú ní Samaria,
3 And Achab called Abdias the governor of his house: now Abdias feared the Lord very much.
Ahabu sì ti pe Obadiah, ẹni tí ń ṣe olórí ilé rẹ̀. Obadiah sì bẹ̀rù Olúwa gidigidi.
4 For when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, he took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water.
Nígbà tí Jesebeli sì ń pa àwọn wòlíì Olúwa kúrò, Obadiah sì mú ọgọ́rùn-ún wòlíì, ó sì fi wọ́n pamọ́ sínú ihò òkúta, àádọ́ta ní ihò kọ̀ọ̀kan, ó sì fi àkàrà pẹ̀lú omi bọ́ wọn.
5 And Achab said to Abdias: Go into the land unto all fountains of waters, and into all valleys, to see if we can find grass, and save the horses and mules, that the beasts may not utterly perish.
Ahabu sì ti wí fún Obadiah pé, “Lọ sí gbogbo ilẹ̀ sí orísun omi gbogbo àti sí ilẹ̀ gbogbo. Bóyá àwa lè rí koríko láti gba àwọn ẹṣin àti àwọn ìbáaka là, kí a má bá à ṣòfò àwọn ẹranko pátápátá.”
6 And they divided the countries between them, that they might go round about them: Achab went one way, and Abdias another way by himself.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n sì pín ilẹ̀ tí wọ́n fẹ́ dé láàrín ara wọn, Ahabu gba ọ̀nà kan lọ, Obadiah sì gba ọ̀nà mìíràn lọ.
7 And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias?
Bí Obadiah sì ti ń rìn lọ, Elijah sì pàdé rẹ̀. Obadiah sì mọ̀ ọ́n, ó dojúbolẹ̀, ó sì wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ìwọ ni nítòótọ́, Elijah, olúwa mi?”
8 And he answered: I am. Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here.
Elijah sì dá a lóhùn pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, lọ kí o sọ fún olúwa rẹ pé, ‘Elijah ń bẹ níhìn-ín.’”
9 And he said: What have I sinned, that thou wouldst deliver me thy servant into the hand of Achab, that he should kill me?
Obadiah sì béèrè pé, “Ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ kí ni mo ha dá tí ìwọ fi ń fi ìránṣẹ́ rẹ lé Ahabu lọ́wọ́ láti pa?
10 As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when all answered: He is not here: he took an oath of every kingdom and nation, because thou wast not found.
Mo mọ̀ dájú pé bí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ti ń bẹ, kò sí orílẹ̀-èdè tàbí ìjọba kan tí olúwa mi kò ti rán ènìyàn lọ láti wò ọ́. Àti nígbà tí orílẹ̀-èdè tàbí ìjọba kan bá wí pé o kò sí, òun a sì mú kí wọ́n búra wí pé wọn kò rí ọ.
11 And now thou sayest to me: Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here.
Ṣùgbọ́n nísinsin yìí, ìwọ wí fún mi pé kí n lọ sọ́dọ̀ olúwa mi, kí n sì wí pé, ‘Elijah ń bẹ níhìn-ín.’
12 And when I am gone from thee, the spirit of the Lord will carry thee into a place that I know not: and I shall go in and tell Achab, and he not finding thee, will kill me: but thy servant feareth the Lord from his infancy.
Èmi kò sì mọ ibi tí ẹ̀mí Olúwa yóò gbé ọ lọ nígbà tí mo bá fi ọ́ sílẹ̀. Bí mo bá lọ, tí mo sì sọ fún Ahabu, tí kò sì rí ọ, òun a sì pa mí. Síbẹ̀ èmi ìránṣẹ́ rẹ bẹ̀rù Olúwa láti ìgbà èwe mi wá.
13 Hath it not been told thee, my lord, what I did when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water?
Ṣé Olúwa mi kò ha ti gbọ́ ohun tí mo ṣe nígbà tí Jesebeli ń pa àwọn wòlíì Olúwa? Mo fi ọgọ́rùn-ún wòlíì Olúwa pamọ́ sínú ihò òkúta méjì, àràádọ́ta ní ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan, mo sì fi omi àti oúnjẹ bọ́ wọn.
14 And now thou sayest: Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here: that he may kill me.
Ìwọ sì sọ fún mi nísinsin yìí pé, kí n tọ olúwa mi lọ pé, ‘Elijah ń bẹ níhìn-ín.’ Òun a sì pa mí!”
15 And Elias said: As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whose face I stand, this day I will shew myself unto him.
Elijah sì wí pé, “Bí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun ti wà, ẹni tí èmi ń sìn, nítòótọ́ èmi yóò fi ara mi hàn fún Ahabu lónìí.”
16 Abdias therefore went to meet Achab, and told him: and Achab came to meet Elias.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Obadiah sì lọ láti pàdé Ahabu, ó sì sọ fún un, Ahabu sì lọ láti pàdé Elijah.
17 And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel?
Nígbà tí Ahabu sì rí Elijah, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Ṣé ìwọ nìyìí, ìwọ tí ń yọ Israẹli lẹ́nu?”
18 And he said: I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father’s house, who have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim.
Elijah sì dá a lóhùn pé, “Èmi kò yọ Israẹli lẹ́nu, bí kò ṣe ìwọ àti ilé baba rẹ. Ẹ ti kọ òfin Olúwa sílẹ̀, ẹ sì ń tọ Baali lẹ́yìn.
19 Nevertheless send now, and gather unto me all Israel, unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, who eat at Jezabel’s table.
Nísinsin yìí kó gbogbo Israẹli jọ láti pàdé mi lórí òkè Karmeli. Àti kí o sì mú àádọ́ta lé ní irinwó àwọn wòlíì Baali àti irinwó àwọn wòlíì òrìṣà Aṣerah tí wọ́n ń jẹun ní tábìlì Jesebeli.”
20 Achab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered together the prophets unto mount Carmel.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Ahabu ránṣẹ́ sí gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Israẹli, ó sì kó àwọn wòlíì jọ sí orí òkè Karmeli.
21 And Elias coming to all the people, said: How long do you halt between two sides? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word.
Elijah sì lọ síwájú gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn, ó sì wí pé, “Yóò ti pẹ́ tó tí ẹ̀yin yóò máa ṣiyèméjì? Bí Olúwa bá ni Ọlọ́run, ẹ máa tọ̀ ọ́ lẹ́yìn, ṣùgbọ́n bí Baali bá ni Ọlọ́run, ẹ máa tọ̀ ọ́ lẹ́yìn.” Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn ènìyàn náà kò sì wí ohun kan.
22 And Elias said again to the people: I only remain a prophet of the Lord: but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.
Nígbà náà ni Elijah wí fún wọn pé, “Èmi nìkan ṣoṣo ni ó kù ní wòlíì Olúwa, ṣùgbọ́n, àádọ́ta lé ní irinwó ni wòlíì Baali.
23 Let two bullocks be given us, and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces and lay it upon wood, but put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under it.
Ẹ fún wa ní ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù méjì. Jẹ́ kí wọn kí ó sì yan ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù kan fún ara wọn, kí wọn kí ó sì gé e sí wẹ́wẹ́, kí wọn kí ó sì tò ó sí orí igi, kí wọn kí ó má ṣe fi iná sí i. Èmi yóò sì tún ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù kejì ṣe, èmi yóò sì tò ó sórí igi, èmi kì yóò sì fi iná sí i.
24 Call ye on the names of your gods, and I will call on the name of my Lord: and the God that shall answer by fire, let him be God. And all the people answering said: A very good proposal.
Nígbà náà ẹ ó sì ké pe orúkọ àwọn Ọlọ́run yín, èmi yóò sì ké pe orúkọ Olúwa. Ọlọ́run náà tí ó fi iná dáhùn, òun ni Ọlọ́run.” Nígbà náà ni gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn náà sì wí pé, “Ohun tí ìwọ sọ dára.”
25 Then Elias said to the prophets of Baal: Choose you one bullock and dress it first, because you are many: and call on the names of your gods, but put no fire under.
Elijah sì wí fún àwọn wòlíì Baali wí pé, “Ẹ yan ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù kan fún ara yín, kí ẹ sì tètè kọ́ ṣe é, nítorí ẹ̀yin pọ̀. Ẹ ké pe orúkọ àwọn ọlọ́run yín, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ má ṣe fi iná sí i.”
26 And they took the bullock which he gave them, and dressed it: and they called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying: O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered: and they leaped over the altar that they had made.
Nígbà náà ni wọ́n sì mú ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù náà, tí a ti fi fún wọn, wọ́n sì ṣe é. Nígbà náà ni wọ́n sì ké pe orúkọ Baali láti òwúrọ̀ títí di ọ̀sán gangan wí pé, “Baali! Dá wa lóhùn!” Wọ́n sì ń kégbe. Ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ìdáhùn; kò sí ẹnìkan tí ó sì dáhùn. Wọ́n sì jó yí pẹpẹ náà ká, èyí tí wọ́n tẹ́.
27 And when it was now noon, Elias jested at them, saying: Cry with a louder voice: for he is a God, and perhaps he is talking, or is in an inn, or on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep, and must be awaked.
Ní ọ̀sán gangan, Elijah bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ń fi wọ́n ṣe ẹlẹ́yà ó sì wí pé, “Ẹ kígbe lóhùn rara Ọlọ́run sá à ni òun! Bóyá ó ń ṣe àṣàrò, tàbí kò ráyè, tàbí ó re àjò. Bóyá ó sùn, ó yẹ kí a jí i.”
28 So they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till they were all covered with blood.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni wọ́n sì kígbe lóhùn rara, wọ́n sì fi ọ̀bẹ àti ọ̀kọ̀ ya ara wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìṣe wọn, títí tí ẹ̀jẹ̀ fi tú jáde ní ara wọn.
29 And after midday was past, and while they were prophesying, the time was come of offering sacrifice, and there was no voice heard, nor did any one answer, nor regard them as they prayed:
Nígbà tí ọjọ́ yẹ àtàrí, wọ́n sì ń fi òmùgọ̀ sọtẹ́lẹ̀ títí di àkókò ìrúbọ àṣálẹ́, ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ohùn, kò sì ṣí ìdáhùn, kò sì ṣí ẹni tí ó kà á sí.
30 Elias said to all the people: Come ye unto me. And the people coming near unto him, he repaired the altar of the Lord, that was broken down:
Nígbà náà ni Elijah wí fún gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn náà pé, “Ẹ súnmọ́ mi.” Wọ́n sì súnmọ́ ọn, ó sì tún pẹpẹ Olúwa tí ó ti wó lulẹ̀ ṣe.
31 And he took twelve stones according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying: Israel shall be thy name.
Elijah sì mú òkúta méjìlá, ọ̀kọ̀ọ̀kan fún ẹ̀yà ọmọ Jakọbu kan, ẹni tí ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa tọ̀ wá wí pé, “Israẹli ni orúkọ rẹ̀ yóò máa jẹ́.”
32 And he built with the stones an altar to the name of the Lord: and he made a trench for water, of the breadth of two furrows round about the altar.
Ó sì tẹ́ pẹpẹ pẹ̀lú àwọn òkúta wọ̀nyí ní orúkọ Olúwa, ó sì wa yàrá yí pẹpẹ náà ká, tí ó lè gba ìwọ̀n òsùwọ̀n irúgbìn méjì.
33 And he laid the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it upon the wood.
Ó sì to igi náà dáradára, ó sì ké ẹgbọrọ akọ màlúù náà wẹ́wẹ́, ó sì tò ó sórí igi. Nígbà náà ni ó sì wí fún wọn wí pé, “Ẹ fi omi kún ìkòkò mẹ́rin, kí ẹ sì tu sórí ẹbọ sísun àti sórí igi náà.”
34 And he said: Fill four buckets with water, and pour it upon the burnt offering, and upon the wood. And again he said: Do the same the second time. And when they had done it the second time, he said: Do the same also the third time. And they did so the third time.
Ó sì wí pe, “Ẹ ṣe é ní ìgbà kejì.” Wọ́n sì ṣe é ní ìgbà kejì. Ó sì tún wí pé, “Ṣe é ní ìgbà kẹta.”
35 And the water run round about the altar, and the trench was filled with water.
Omi náà sì sàn yí pẹpẹ náà ká, ó sì fi omi kún yàrá náà pẹ̀lú.
36 And when it was now time to offer the holocaust, Elias the prophet came near and said: O Lord God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israel, shew this day that thou art the God of Israel, and I thy servant, and that according to thy commandment I have done all these things.
Ó sì ṣe, ní ìrúbọ àṣálẹ́, wòlíì Elijah sì súnmọ́ tòsí, ó sì gbàdúrà wí pé, “Olúwa, Ọlọ́run Abrahamu, Isaaki àti Israẹli, jẹ́ kí ó di mí mọ̀ lónìí pé ìwọ ni Ọlọ́run ní Israẹli àti pé èmi ni ìránṣẹ́ rẹ, àti pé mo ṣe gbogbo nǹkan wọ̀nyí nípa àṣẹ rẹ.
37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me: that this people may learn, that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart again.
Gbọ́ ti èmi, Olúwa, gbọ́ ti èmi, kí àwọn ènìyàn wọ̀nyí lè mọ̀ pé ìwọ Olúwa ni Ọlọ́run àti pé ìwọ tún yí ọkàn wọn padà.”
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
Nígbà náà ni iná Olúwa bọ́ sílẹ̀, ó sì sun ẹbọ sísun náà àti igi, àti àwọn òkúta, àti erùpẹ̀, ó sì tún lá omi tí ń bẹ nínú yàrá náà.
39 And when all the people saw this, they fell on their faces, and they said: The Lord he is God, the Lord he is God.
Nígbà tí gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn sì rí èyí, wọ́n da ojú wọn bolẹ̀, wọ́n sì kígbe pé, “Olúwa, òun ni Ọlọ́run! Olúwa, òun ni Ọlọ́run!”
40 And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.
Nígbà náà ni Elijah sì pàṣẹ fún wọn pé, “Ẹ mú àwọn wòlíì Baali. Ẹ má ṣe jẹ́ kí ọ̀kan nínú wọn kí ó sálọ!” Wọ́n sì mú wọn, Elijah sì mú wọn sọ̀kalẹ̀ sí àfonífojì Kiṣoni, ó sì pa wọ́n níbẹ̀.
41 And Elias said to Achab: Go up, eat, and drink: for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
Elijah sì wí fún Ahabu pé, “Lọ, jẹ, kí o sì mu, nítorí ìró ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ òjò ń bọ̀.”
42 Achab went up to eat and drink: and Elias went up to the top of Carmel, and casting himself down upon the earth put his face between his knees,
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni Ahabu gòkè lọ láti jẹ àti láti mu. Ṣùgbọ́n Elijah gun orí òkè Karmeli lọ ó sì tẹríba, ó sì fi ojú rẹ̀ sí agbede-méjì eékún rẹ̀.
43 And he said to his servant: Go up, and look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said: There is nothing. And again he said to him: Return seven times.
Ó sì wí fún ọmọ ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ pé, “Lọ, kí o sì wo ìhà Òkun, òun sì gòkè lọ, ó sì wò.” Ó sì wí pé, “Kò sí nǹkan níbẹ̀.” Ó sì wí pé, “Tún lọ nígbà méje.”
44 And at the seventh time, behold, a little cloud arose out of the sea like a man’s foot. And he said: Go up and say to Achab: Prepare thy chariot and go down, lest the rain prevent thee.
Nígbà keje, ìránṣẹ́ náà sì wí pé, “Àwọsánmọ̀ kékeré kan dìde láti inú Òkun, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọwọ́ ènìyàn.” Elijah sì wí pé, “Lọ, kí o sọ fún Ahabu pé, ‘Di kẹ́tẹ́kẹ́tẹ́ rẹ, kí o sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ, kí òjò ó má ba à dá ọ dúró.’”
45 And while he turned himself this way and that way, behold the heavens grew dark, with clouds, and wind, and there fell a great rain. And Achab getting up went away to Jezrahel:
Ó sì ṣe, nígbà díẹ̀ sí i, ọ̀run sì ṣú fún àwọsánmọ̀, ìjì sì dìde, òjò púpọ̀ sì rọ̀, Ahabu sì gun kẹ̀kẹ́ lọ sí Jesreeli.
46 And the hand of the Lord was upon Elias, and he girded up his loins and ran before Achab, till he came to Jezrahel.
Agbára Olúwa sì ń bẹ lára Elijah; ó sì di àmùrè ẹ̀gbẹ́ rẹ, ó sì sáré níwájú Ahabu títí dé Jesreeli.
