< 1 John 3 >
1 Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him.
Vakai ki hono anga ʻoe ʻofa kuo foaki mai ʻe he Tamai kiate kitautolu, koeʻuhi ʻi he ui ʻakitautolu ko e fānau ʻae ʻOtua: ko ia ʻoku ʻikai ʻiloa ai ʻakitautolu ʻe māmani, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai ke ne ʻilo ia.
2 Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know, that, when he shall appear, we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is.
ʻE kāinga ʻofeina, ko eni ko e fānau ʻae ʻOtua ʻakitautolu, pea ʻoku teʻeki ai hā mai pe te tau hoko ko e hā: ka ʻoku tau ʻilo, ʻoka hā mai ia, te tau tatau pe mo ia; he te tau mamata totonu kiate ia.
3 And every one that hath this hope in him, sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy.
Pea ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ne maʻu ʻae ʻamanaki lelei ni ʻiate ia, ʻoku ne fakamaʻa ia, ʻo hangē ko e maʻa ʻaʻana.
4 Whosoever committeth sin committeth also iniquity; and sin is iniquity.
Ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ne fai angahala, ʻoku ne maumauʻi foki ʻae fono: he ko e angahala, ko e maumau ʻoe fono.
5 And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin.
Pea ʻoku mou ʻilo, naʻe fakahā ia ke ne ʻave ʻetau ngaahi angahala: pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ha angahala.
6 Whosoever abideth in him, sinneth not; and whosoever sinneth, hath not seen him, nor known him.
Ko ia ia ʻoku nofomaʻu kiate ia, ʻoku ʻikai fai angahala ia: ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku fai angahala, ʻoku ʻikai mamata ia kiate ia, pe ʻiloʻi ia.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is just, even as he is just.
ʻE fānau ʻofeina, ke ʻoua naʻa kākaaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha taha: ko ia ʻoku ne fai māʻoniʻoni, ko e māʻoniʻoni ia, ʻo hangē ko e māʻoniʻoni ʻaʻana.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Ko ia ʻoku ne fai angahala, ʻoku ʻoe tēvolo ia; he naʻe angahala ʻae tēvolo talu mei he kamataʻanga. Ka ko e meʻa eni naʻe fakahā ai ʻae ʻAlo ʻoe ʻOtua, koeʻuhi ke ne fakaʻauha ʻae ngaahi ngāue ʻae tēvolo.
9 Whosoever is born of God, committeth not sin: for his seed abideth in him, and he can not sin, because he is born of God.
Ko ia kotoa pē kuo fanauʻi mei he ʻOtua, ʻoku ʻikai fai angahala ia; he ʻoku maʻu ʻiate ia ʻene tenga: pea ʻoku ʻikai ke faʻa angahala, koeʻuhi kuo fanauʻi ia mei he ʻOtua.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever is not just, is not of God, nor he that loveth not his brother.
Ko e meʻa ni ʻoku hā ai ʻae fānau ʻae ʻOtua, pea mo e fānau ʻae tēvolo: ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai fai māʻoniʻoni, pea mo ia ʻoku ʻikai ʻofa ki hono tokoua, ʻoku ʻikai ʻoe ʻOtua ia.
11 For this is the declaration, which you have heard from the beginning, that you should love one another.
He ko eni ʻae fekau kuo mou fanongo ki ai talu mei he kamataʻanga, ke tau feʻofaʻaki kiate kitautolu.
12 Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother. And wherefore did he kill him? Because his own works were wicked: and his brother’s just.
ʻIkai ke hangē ko Keini, naʻe ʻoe tokotaha kovi, pea naʻa ne tāmateʻi hono tokoua. Pea ko e hā naʻa ne tāmateʻi ai ia? Ka koeʻuhi naʻe kovi ʻene ngaahi ngāue ʻaʻana, pea māʻoniʻoni ʻae ngaahi ngāue ʻa hono tokoua.
13 Wonder not, brethren, if the world hate you.
ʻE hoku kāinga, ʻoua ʻe ofo, ʻo kapau ʻe fehiʻa ʻa māmani kiate kimoutolu.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not, abideth in death.
ʻOku tau ʻilo kuo tau hao mei he mate ki he moʻui, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻetau ʻofa ki he kāinga. Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai ʻofa ki hono tokoua, ʻoku nofo pe ia ʻi he mate,
15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer. And you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself. (aiōnios )
Ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono tokoua, ko e fakapō ia: pea ʻoku mou ʻilo ʻoku ʻikai ha fakapō ʻe ʻiate ia ʻae moʻui taʻengata. (aiōnios )
16 In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Ko e meʻa ni ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻae ʻofa, koeʻuhi kuo ne tuku hifo ʻene moʻui maʻatautolu: pea totonu ai ʻetau tuku hifo ʻetau moʻui koeʻuhi ko e kāinga.
17 He that hath the substance of this world, and shall see his brother in need, and shall shut up his bowels from him: how doth the charity of God abide in him?
Ka ko ia ʻoku ne maʻu ʻae lelei ʻoe māmani, pea ne mamata ki he masiva ʻa hono tokoua, kae tāpuni ʻe ia ʻa hono fatu meiate ia, ʻoku nofo fēfē ʻae ʻofa ʻae ʻOtua ʻiate ia?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.
ʻA ʻeku fānau ʻofeina, ke ʻoua naʻa tau ʻofa ʻi he lea, pe ʻi he ʻelelo; ka ʻi he ngāue mo e moʻoni.
19 In this we know that we are of the truth: and in his sight shall persuade our hearts.
Pea ko eni ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻoku ʻoe moʻoni ʻakitautolu, pea ʻe fakamoʻoni ʻa hotau loto ʻi hono ʻao.
20 For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
He kapau ʻoku talatalaaki ʻakitautolu ʻe hotau loto, ʻoku lahi ʻae ʻOtua ki hotau loto, ʻone ʻiloʻi ʻae meʻa kotoa pe.
21 Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God:
ʻE kāinga ʻofeina, kapau ʻoku ʻikai talatalaaki ʻakitautolu ʻe hotau loto, ʻoku tau maʻu ʻae mālohi ki he ʻOtua.
22 And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.
Pea ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku tau kolea, ʻoku tau maʻu meiate ia, koeʻuhi ʻoku tau fai ʻene ngaahi fekau, pea fai mo e ngaahi meʻa ʻoku lelei ʻi hono ʻao.
23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us.
Pea ko ʻene fekau eni, Ke tui ʻakitautolu ki he huafa ʻo hono ʻAlo ko Sisu Kalaisi, pea tau feʻofaʻaki, ʻo taau mo ʻene fekau kiate kitautolu.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Pea ko ia ʻoku ne fai ʻene ngaahi fekau, ʻoku nofo ia kiate ia, pea mo ia ʻiate ia. Pea ko e meʻa eni ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻene nofoʻia ʻakitautolu, ko e Laumālie, ʻaia kuo ne foaki kiate kitautolu.
