< 1 Chronicles 9 >
1 And all Israel was numbered: and the sum of them was written in the book of the kings of Israel, and Juda: and they were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.
So all Israel was recorded in genealogies. They were recorded in the book of the kings of Israel. As for Judah, they were carried away in exile to Babylon because of their sin.
2 Now the first that dwelt in their possessions, and in their cities, were the Israelites, and the priests, and the Levites, and the Nathineans.
The first to resettle in their cities were some Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3 And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Juda, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and of Manasses.
Some descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem.
4 Othei the son of Ammiud, the son of Amri, the son of Omrai, the son of Bonni, of the sons of Phares the son of Juda.
The settlers included Uthai son of Ammihud son of Omri son of Imri son of Bani, one of the descendants of Perez son of Judah.
5 And of Siloni: Asaia the firstborn, and his sons.
Among the Shelanites were Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6 And of the sons of Zara: Jehuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.
Among the descendants of Zerah was Jeuel. Their descendants numbered 690.
7 And of the sons of Benjamin: Sale the son of Mosollam, the son of Oduia, the son of Asana:
Among the descendants of Benjamin were Sallu son of Meshullam son of Hodaviah son of Hassenuah.
8 And Jobania the son of Jeroham: and Ela the son of Ozi, the son of Mochori: and Mosallam the son of Saphatias, the son of Rahuel, the son of Jebania:
There were also Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah son of Reuel son of Ibnijah.
9 And their brethren by their families, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these were heads of their families, by the houses of their fathers.
Their relatives written in the genealogical lists numbered 956. All these men were heads of fathers' houses for their fathers' houses.
10 And of the priests: Jedaia, Joiarib, and Jachin:
The priests were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jakin.
11 And Azarias the son of Helcias, the son of Mosollam, the son of Sadoc, the son of Maraioth, the son of Achitob, high priest of the house of God.
There was also Azariah son of Hilkiah son of Meshullam son of Zadok son of Meraioth son of Ahitub, the one in charge of the house of God.
12 And Adaias the son of Jeroham, the son of Phassur, the son of Melchias, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jezra, the son of Mosollam, the son of Mosollamith, the son of Emmer.
There was Adaiah son of Jeroham son of Pashhur son of Malkijah. There was also Maasai son of Adiel son of Jahzerah son of Meshullam son of Meshillemith son of Immer.
13 And their brethren heads in their families a thousand seven hundred and threescore, very strong and able men for the work of the ministry in the house of God.
Their relatives, who were leaders for their fathers' houses, numbered 1,760. They were very capable men in the work in the house of God.
14 And of the Levites: Semeia the son of Hassub the son of Ezricam, the son of Hasebia of the sons of Merari.
Among the Levites, there was Shemaiah son of Hasshub son of Azrikam son of Hashabiah, among the descendants of Merari.
15 And Bacbacar the carpenter, and Galal, and Mathania the son of Micha, the son of Zechri the son of Asaph:
There were also Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mika son of Zikri son of Asaph.
16 And Obdia the son of Semeia, the son of Galal, the son of Idithum: and Barachia the son of Asa, the son of Elcana, who dwelt in the suburbs of Netophati.
There were also Obadiah son of Shemaiah son of Galal son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
17 And the porters were Sellum, and Accub, and Telmon, and Ahiman: and their brother Sellum was the prince,
The doorkeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their descendants. Shallum was their leader.
18 Until that time, in the king’s gate eastward, the sons of Levi waited by their turns.
Previously they stood guard at the king's gate on the east side for the camp of Levi's descendants.
19 But Sellum the son of Core, the son of Abiasaph, the son of Core, with his brethren and his father’s house, the Corites were over the works of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their families in turns were keepers of the entrance of the camp of the Lord.
Shallum son of Kore son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his relatives from the house of his father, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the guard service. They guarded the door to the tent, as their ancestors had guarded the camp of Yahweh, and they also had guarded the entrance.
20 And Phinees the son of Eleazar, was their prince before the Lord,
Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them in the past, and Yahweh had been with him.
21 And Zacharias the son of Mosollamia, was porter of the gate of the tabernacle of the testimony:
Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was guard of the entrance to the temple, the “tent of meeting.”
22 All these that were chosen to be porters at the gates, were two hundred and twelve: and they mere registered in their proper towns: whom David and Samuel the seer appointed in their trust.
All those who were chosen as gatekeepers at the entrances numbered 212. Their names were recorded in the people's records in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had placed them into their positions of trust.
23 As well them as their sons, to keep the gates of the house of the Lord, and the tabernacle by their turns.
So they and their children guarded the gates of the house of Yahweh, the tabernacle.
24 In four quarters were the porters: that is to say, toward the east, and west, and north, and south.
The gatekeepers were posted on all four sides, toward the east, west, north, and south.
25 And their brethren dwelt in villages, and came upon their sabbath days from time to time.
Their brothers, who lived in their villages, came in for seven-day rotations, in turn.
26 To these four Levites were committed the whole number of the porters, and they were over the chambers, and treasures, of the house of the Lord.
But the four leaders of the gatekeepers, who were Levites, were assigned to guard the rooms and storerooms in the house of God.
27 And they abode in their watches round about the temple of the Lord: that when it was time, they might open the gates in the morning.
They would spend the night in their posts all around the house of God, for they were responsible for guarding it. They would open it each morning.
28 And some of their stock had the charge of the vessels for the ministry: for the vessels were both brought in and carried out by number.
Some of them were in charge of the temple's equipment; they counted the articles when they were brought in and when they were taken out.
29 Some of them also had the instruments of the sanctuary committed unto them, and the charge of the fine flour, and wine, and oil, and frankincense, and spices.
Some of them also were assigned to take care of the holy things, the equipment, and the supplies, including the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.
30 And the sons of the priests made the ointments of the spices.
Some of the priests' sons mixed the spices.
31 And Mathathias a Levite, the firstborn of Sellum the Corite, was overseer of such things as were fried in the fryingpan.
Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of preparing bread for the offerings.
32 And some of the sons of Caath their brethren, were over the leaves of proposition, to prepare always new for every sabbath.
Some of their brothers, descendants of the Kohathites, were in charge of the bread of the presence, to prepare it every Sabbath.
33 These are the chief of the singing men of the families of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers, by the temple, that they might serve continually day and night in their ministry.
The singers and heads of the Levites' fathers' houses lived in rooms at the sanctuary when they were free from work, because they had to carry out their assigned tasks day and night.
34 The heads of the Levites, princes in their families, abode in Jerusalem.
These were leaders of fathers' houses among the Levites, as listed in their genealogical records, chief men. They lived in Jerusalem.
35 And in Gabaon dwelt Jehiel the father of Gabaon, and the name of hill wife was Maacha:
The father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife's name was Maakah, lived in Gibeon.
36 His firstborn son Abdon, and Sur, and Cis, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab,
His firstborn son was Abdon, then his sons Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 Gedor also, and Ahio, and Zacharias, and Macelloth.
Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 And Macelloth beget Samaan: these dwelt over against their brethren in Jerusalem, with their brethren.
Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They also lived near their brothers in Jerusalem.
39 Now Ner beget Cia: and Cis begot Saul: and Saul beget Jonathan and Melchisua, and Abinadab, and Esbaal.
Ner was the father of Kish. Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.
40 And the son of Jonathan, was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal beget Micha.
The son of Jonathan was Merib-Baal. Merib-Baal was the father of Micah.
41 And the sons of Micha, were Phithon, and Melech, and Tharaa, and Ahaz.
The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melek, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42 And Ahaz beget Jara, and Jara beget Alamath, and Azmoth, and Zamri. And Zamri beget Mesa.
Ahaz was the father of Jadah. Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 And Mesa beget Banaa: whose son Raphaia beget Elasa: of whom was born Asel.
Moza was the father of Binea. Binea was the father of Rephaiah. Rephaiah was the father of Eleasah. Eleasah was the father of Azel.
44 And heel had six sons whose names are, Ezricam, Bochru, Ismahel, Saria, Obdia, Hanan: these are the sons of Asel.
Azel's six sons were Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were Azel's sons.
