1 Chronicles 21
1 And Satan rose up against Israel: and moved David to number Israel.
Es trat aber (der) Satan gegen Israel auf und verführte David dazu, eine Zählung der Israeliten vorzunehmen.
2 And David said to Joab, and to the rulers of the people: Go, and number Israel from Bersabee even to Dan, and bring me the number of them that I may know it.
So gebot denn David dem Joab und den Obersten des Volkes: »Geht hin und nehmt eine Zählung in Israel vor von Beerseba bis Dan und erstattet mir Bericht, damit ich die Zahl des Volkes erfahre!«
3 And Joab answered: The Lord make his people a hundred times more than they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all thy servants: why doth my lord seek this thing, which may be imputed as a sin to Israel?
Joab entgegnete: »Der HERR möge sein Volk, so zahlreich es auch jetzt schon ist, noch hundertmal zahlreicher werden lassen! Sie sind ja doch alle, mein Herr und König, gehorsame Untertanen meines Herrn. Warum hegt mein Herr solchen Wunsch? Warum soll Israel eine Verschuldung auf sich laden?«
4 But the king’s word rather prevailed: and Joab departed, and went through all Israel: and returned to Jerusalem.
Aber der Befehl des Königs blieb trotz der Vorstellungen Joabs bestehen; und so machte sich denn dieser auf den Weg und durchwanderte ganz Israel. Als er dann nach Jerusalem zurückgekehrt war,
5 And he gave David the number of them, whom he had surveyed: and all the number of Israel was found to be eleven hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and of Juda four hundred and seventy thousand fighting men.
teilte er David das Ergebnis der Volkszählung mit; da belief sich die Zahl der schwertbewaffneten Männer in ganz Israel auf 1 110000 und in Juda auf 470000 schwertbewaffnete Männer.
6 But Levi and Benjamin he did not number: for Joab unwillingly executed the king’s orders.
Die Stämme Levi und Benjamin aber hatte er nicht mit in die Zählung einbegriffen; denn der Befehl des Königs war für Joab ein Greuel.
7 And God was displeased with this thing that was commanded: and he struck Israel.
Weil aber diese ganze Sache das Mißfallen Gottes erregte, so daß er Israel schwer heimsuchte,
8 And David said to God: I have sinned exceedingly in doing this: I beseech thee take away the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done foolishly.
betete David zu Gott: »Ich habe mich schwer dadurch versündigt, daß ich dies getan habe; nun aber, laß doch deinem Knecht seine Verschuldung ungestraft hingehen! Denn ich habe in großer Verblendung gehandelt.«
9 And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer of David, saying:
Aber der HERR ließ Gad, dem Seher Davids, folgende Weisung zukommen:
10 Go, and speak to David, and tell him: Thus saith the Lord: I give thee the choice of three things: choose one which thou wilt, and I will do it to thee.
»Gehe hin und sage zu David: ›So hat der HERR gesprochen: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor! Wähle dir eines davon, damit ich es an dir zur Ausführung bringe!‹«
11 And when Gad was come to David, he said to him: Thus saith the Lord: choose which thou wilt:
Da begab sich Gad zu David und sagte zu ihm: »So hat der HERR gesprochen: ›Wähle dir
12 Either three years’ famine: or three months to flee from thy enemies, and not to be able to escape their sword: or three days to have the sword of the Lord, and pestilence in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying in all the coasts of Israel: now therefore see what I shall answer him who sent me.
entweder drei Jahre Hungersnot oder daß du drei Monate vor deinen Widersachern fliehen mußt und das Schwert deiner Feinde dir zusetzt oder daß das Schwert des HERRN und die Pest drei Tage lang im Lande wütet, so daß der Engel des HERRN im ganzen Bereich Israels Verderben anrichtet.‹ Und nun überlege, welche Antwort ich dem bringen soll, der mich gesandt hat!«
13 And David said to Gad: I am on every side in a great strait: but it is better for me to fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are many, than into the hands of men.
Da sagte David zu Gad: »Mir ist sehr bange! Ich will lieber in die Hand des HERRN fallen, denn seine Gnadenerweise sind sehr groß; aber in die Hand der Menschen möchte ich nicht fallen!«
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel. And there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
So ließ denn der HERR eine Pest über Israel kommen, so daß siebzigtausend Menschen in Israel den Tod fanden.
15 And he sent an angel to Jerusalem, to strike it: and as he was striking it, the Lord beheld, and took pity for the greatness of the evil: and said to the angel that destroyed: It is enough, now stop thy hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the thrashing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Dann sandte der HERR einen Engel nach Jerusalem, um es zu verheeren; doch als er Verheerungen darin anrichtete, sah der HERR darein, und es gereute ihn das Unheil, und er gebot dem Engel, der die Verheerung anzurichten hatte: »Es ist genug so: laß jetzt deine Hand ruhen!« Der Engel des HERRN stand aber gerade bei der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan.
16 And David lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand, turned against Jerusalem: and both he and the ancients clothed in haircloth, fell down flat on the ground.
Als nun David aufblickte und den Engel des HERRN zwischen Erde und Himmel stehen sah, wie er das gezückte Schwert, das über Jerusalem ausgestreckt war, in der Hand hielt, da fielen David und die Ältesten, in Trauerkleider gehüllt, auf ihr Angesicht nieder,
17 And David said to God: Am not I he that commanded the people to be numbered? It is I that have sinned: it is I that have done the evil: but as for this flock, what hath it deserved? O Lord my God, let thy hand be turned, I beseech thee, upon me, and upon my father’s house: and let not thy people be destroyed.
und David betete zu Gott: »Ach, ich bin’s ja, der die Volkszählung veranlaßt hat, und ich bin es, der gesündigt und ein großes Unrecht begangen hat! Diese Herde aber, was hat sie verschuldet? HERR, mein Gott, laß doch deine Hand mich und das Haus meines Vaters treffen, aber nicht dein Volk zum Sterben!«
18 And the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to tell David, to go up, and build an altar to the Lord God in the thrashingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Nun gebot der Engel des HERRN dem Gad, er möge David sagen, David solle hinaufgehen und dem HERRN einen Altar auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan errichten.
19 And David went up, according to the word of Gad, which he spoke to him in the name of the Lord.
Da begab sich David nach der Aufforderung, die Gad im Namen des HERRN an ihn gerichtet hatte, hinauf.
20 Now when Ornan looked up, and saw the angel, he and his four sons hid themselves: for at that time he was thrashing wheat in the floor.
[Als nun Ornan sich umwandte, sah er den Engel, während seine vier Söhne sich bei ihm versteckt hielten – Ornan drosch nämlich gerade Weizen –.]
21 And as David was coming to Ornan, Ornan saw him, and went out of the thrashingfloor to meet him, and bowed down to him with his face to the ground.
Als nun David zu Ornan kam und dieser aufblickte und David gewahrte, trat er aus der Tenne hinaus und verneigte sich vor David mit dem Angesicht bis zur Erde.
22 And David said to him: Give me this place of thy thrashingfloor, that I may build therein an altar to the Lord: but thou shalt take of me as much money as it is worth, that the plague may cease from the people.
Da sagte David zu Ornan: »Überlaß mir den Platz der Tenne hier, damit ich dem HERRN einen Altar darauf erbaue; für den vollen Geldeswert überlaß ihn mir, damit dem Sterben unter dem Volke Einhalt getan wird.«
23 And Ornan said to David: Take it, and let my lord the king do all that pleaseth him: and moreover the oxen also I give for a holocaust, and the drays for wood, and the wheat for the sacrifice: I will give it all willingly.
Da antwortete Ornan dem David: »Nimm ihn hin: mein Herr und König wolle tun, was ihm beliebt! Siehe da, ich gebe dir die Rinder zu den Brandopfern und die Dreschschlitten als Brennholz und den Weizen zum Speisopfer: das alles gebe ich her!«
24 And king David said to him: It shall not be so, but I will give thee money as much as it is worth: for I must not take it from thee, and so offer to the Lord holocausts free cost.
Aber der König David erwiderte dem Ornan: »Nein, käuflich will ich es von dir erwerben zum vollen Wert; denn ich will dir nicht dein Eigentum für den HERRN wegnehmen und will keine Brandopfer darbringen, die mir geschenkt sind!«
25 So David gave to Ornan for the place, six hundred sicles of gold of just weight.
So gab denn David dem Ornan für den Platz Gold im Gewicht von sechshundert Schekeln.
26 And he built there an altar to the Lord: and he offered holocausts, and peace offerings, and he called upon the Lord, and he heard him by sending Are from heaven upon the altar of the holocaust.
David erbaute alsdann dem HERRN dort einen Altar und brachte Brandopfer und Heilsopfer dar; und als er den HERRN anrief, erhörte dieser ihn, indem er Feuer vom Himmel auf den Brandopferaltar fallen ließ.
27 And the Lord commanded the angel: and he put up his sword again into the sheath.
Der HERR gebot alsdann dem Engel, und dieser steckte sein Schwert wieder in die Scheide.
28 And David seeing that the Lord had heard him in the thrashingfloor of Oman the Jebusite, forthwith offered victims there.
Weil David damals die Erfahrung gemacht hatte, daß der HERR ihn auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Ornan erhört hatte, brachte er dort Opfer dar.
29 But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses made in the desert, and the altar of holocausts, was at that time in the high place of Gabaon.
Aber die Wohnung des HERRN, die Mose in der Wüste hergestellt hatte, und der Brandopferaltar befanden sich zu jener Zeit auf der Höhe bei Gibeon.
30 And David could not go to the altar there to pray to God: for he was seized with an exceeding great fear, seeing the sword of the angel of the Lord.
Doch David gewann es nicht über sich, dort vor Gott zu treten, um ihn zu verehren, weil er durch das Schwert des Engels des HERRN in Schrecken versetzt worden war.
