Zephaniah 1
1 The word of Jehovah that came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
La parole de l'Éternel qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Cusi, fils de Gédalia, fils d'Amaria, fils d'Ézéchias, au temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda.
2 I will utterly take away everything from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah:
Je vais tout enlever de la surface de la terre, dit l'Éternel,
3 I will take away man and beast; I will take away the fowl of the heavens and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling-blocks with the wicked, and I will cut off mankind from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah.
enlever hommes et bêtes, enlever les oiseaux des Cieux et les poissons de la mer, et les scandales avec les impies, et j'exterminerai les hommes de la surface du sol, dit l'Éternel.
4 And I will stretch forth my hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, the name of the Chemarim with the priests;
Et j'étendrai ma main sur Juda, et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et j'exterminerai de ce lieu les restes de Baal, le nom des prêtres avec les sacrificateurs,
5 and them that bow down to the host of the heavens upon the housetops; and them that bow down to Jehovah, that swear by [him], and swear by Malcham;
et ceux qui adorent sur les toits l'armée des Cieux, et ceux qui adorent l'Éternel, lui prêtent serment et jurent par leur roi,
6 and them that turn back from after Jehovah, and that do not seek Jehovah, nor inquire for him.
et ceux qui ont déserté l'Éternel et qui ne cherchent point l'Éternel, et ne se soucient pas de lui.
7 Be silent at the presence of the Lord Jehovah; for the day of Jehovah is at hand; for Jehovah hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath hallowed his guests.
Silence devant le Seigneur, l'Éternel! car la journée de l'Éternel est proche; car l'Éternel a préparé un sacrifice, Il a sanctifié ses conviés.
8 And it shall come to pass in the day of Jehovah's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's sons, and all such as are clothed with foreign apparel.
Et il arrivera au jour du sacrifice de l'Éternel que je châtierai les princes et les fils du roi et tous ceux qui revêtent les vêtements de l'étranger;
9 And in that day will I punish all those that leap over the threshold, who fill their master's house with violence and deceit.
et je châtierai tous ceux qui franchissent le seuil, en cette journée-là, et remplissent les maisons de leurs maîtres de rapine et de fraude.
10 And in that day, saith Jehovah, there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish-gate, and a howling from the second [quarter], and a great crashing from the hills.
En cette journée-là, dit l'Éternel, des cris retentiront de la porte des poissons, et des gémissements de la ville basse et un grand fracas des collines.
11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh; for all the people of Canaan are cut down, all they that are laden with silver are cut off.
Gémissez, habitants du mortier! Car c'en est fait de tout le peuple des Cananéens, et tous les hommes chargés d'argent seront exterminés.
12 And it shall come to pass at that time, [that] I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, Jehovah will not do good, neither will he do evil.
Et dans ce temps-là je fouillerai Jérusalem aux lanternes et châtierai tous ces hommes assis sur leurs lies, qui disent en leur cœur: « L'Éternel ne fait point de bien et point de mal. »
13 And their wealth shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation; and they shall build houses, and not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and not drink the wine thereof.
Et leur opulence sera une proie, et leurs maisons une ruine; et ils ont bâti des maisons, mais ils ne les habiteront pas, et planté des vignes, mais ils n'en boiront pas le vin.
14 The great day of Jehovah is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly. The voice of the day of Jehovah: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
La journée de l'Éternel, la grande journée est proche, elle est proche, et s'avance rapidement; on entend la journée de l'Éternel; alors le héros poussera des cris amers.
15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of ruin and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and gross darkness,
Ce jour-là est un jour de colère, un jour de détresse et d'angoisse, un jour de dévastation et de désolation, un jour de ténèbres et d'obscurité, un jour nuageux et sombre,
16 a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fenced cities and against the high battlements.
un jour de bruit de trompettes et de cris de guerre contre les villes fortes et les tours élevées.
17 And I will bring distress upon men, and they shall walk like blind men; for they have sinned against Jehovah; and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as dung:
Et je mettrai les hommes à la gêne, et ils iront comme des aveugles, car ils péchèrent contre l'Éternel, et leur sang sera répandu comme de la poussière, et leur chair comme de l'ordure.
18 their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them, in the day of Jehovah's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for a full end, yea, a sudden [end], shall he make of all them that dwell in the land.
Ni leur argent, ni leur or ne pourra les sauver au jour de la colère de l'Éternel, et par le feu de son courroux tout le pays sera consumé; car c'est d'une ruine, oui, d'une ruine soudaine, qu'il frappera tous les habitants du pays.
