Zephaniah 2
1 Collect yourselves and gather together, O nation without shame,
あなたがた、恥を知らぬ民よ、共につどい、集まれ。
2 before the decree bring forth, [before] the day pass away as chaff, before the fierce anger of Jehovah come upon you, before the day of Jehovah's anger come upon you.
すなわち、もみがらのように追いやられる前に、主の激しい怒りがまだあなたがたに臨まない前に、主の憤りの日がまだあなたがたに来ない前に。
3 Seek Jehovah, all ye meek of the land, who have performed his ordinance; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.
すべて主の命令を行うこの地のへりくだる者よ、主を求めよ。正義を求めよ。謙遜を求めよ。そうすればあなたがたは主の怒りの日に、あるいは隠されることがあろう。
4 For Gazah shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon shall be a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
ともあれ、ガザは捨てられ、アシケロンは荒れはて、アシドドは真昼に追い払われ、エクロンは抜き去られる。
5 Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant;
わざわいなるかな、海べに住む者、ケレテの国民。ペリシテびとの地、カナンよ、主の言葉があなたがたに臨む。わたしはあなたを滅ぼして、住む者がないようにする。
6 and the sea-coast shall be cave-dwellings for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
海べよ、あなたは牧場となり、羊飼の牧草地となり、また羊のおりとなる。
7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for Jehovah their God shall visit them, and turn again their captivity.
海べはユダの家の残りの者に帰する。彼らはその所で群れを養い、夕暮にはアシケロンの家に伏す。彼らの神、主が彼らを顧み、その幸福を回復されるからである。
8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
「わたしはモアブのあざけりと、アンモンの人々の、ののしりを聞いた。彼らはわが民をあざけり、自ら誇って彼らの国境を侵した。
9 Therefore, [as] I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall certainly be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt-pits, and a perpetual desolation; the remnant of my people shall spoil them, and the residue of my nation shall possess them.
それゆえ、万軍の主、イスラエルの神は言われる、わたしは生きている。モアブは必ずソドムのようになる。アンモンの人々はゴモラのようになる。いらくさと塩穴とがここを占領して、永遠に荒れ地となる。わが民の残りの者は彼らをかすめ、わが国民の残りの者はこれを所有する」。
10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Jehovah of hosts.
この事の彼らに臨むのはその高ぶりによるのだ。彼らが万軍の主の民をあざけり、みずから誇ったからである。
11 Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and all the isles of the nations shall worship him, every one from his place.
主は彼らに対して恐るべき者となられる。主は地のすべての神々を飢えさせられる。もろもろの国の民は、おのおの自分の所から出て主を拝む。
12 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be the slain of my sword.
エチオピヤびとよ、あなたがたもまたわがつるぎによって殺される。
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, a place of drought like the wilderness.
主はまた北に向かって手を伸べ、アッスリヤを滅ぼし、ニネベを荒して、荒野のような、かわいた地とされる。
14 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the crowd of beasts; both the pelican and the bittern shall lodge in the chapiters thereof; a voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be on the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar work.
家畜の群れ、もろもろの野の獣はその中に伏し、はげたかや、やまあらしはその柱の頂に住み、ふくろうは、その窓のうちになき、からすは、その敷居の上に鳴く。その香柏の細工が裸にされるからである。
15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become a desolation, a couching-place for beasts! Every one that passeth by her shall hiss, shall wave his hand.
この町は勝ち誇って、安らかに落ち着き、その心の中で、「ただわたしだけだ、わたしの外にはだれもない」と言った町であるが、このように荒れはてて、獣の伏す所になってしまった。ここを通り過ぎる者は皆あざけって、手を振る。
