< Romans 12 >
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your intelligent service.
Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.
2 And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [your] mind, that ye may prove what [is] the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (aiōn )
Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. (aiōn )
3 For I say, through the grace which has been given to me, to every one that is among you, not to have high thoughts above what he should think; but to think so as to be wise, as God has dealt to each a measure of faith.
For I say through the grace that was given me, to everyone who is amongst you, not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith.
4 For, as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office;
For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members don’t have the same function,
5 thus we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and each one members one of the other.
so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another,
6 But having different gifts, according to the grace which has been given to us, whether [it be] prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;
having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us: if prophecy, let’s prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;
7 or service, [let us occupy ourselves] in service; or he that teaches, in teaching;
or service, let’s give ourselves to service; or he who teaches, to his teaching;
8 or he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, in simplicity; he that leads, with diligence; he that shews mercy, with cheerfulness.
or he who exhorts, to his exhorting; he who gives, let him do it with generosity; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
9 Let love be unfeigned; abhorring evil; cleaving to good:
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.
10 as to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other:
In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honour prefer one another,
11 as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord.
not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord,
12 As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:
rejoicing in hope, enduring in troubles, continuing steadfastly in prayer,
13 distributing to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.
contributing to the needs of the saints, and given to hospitality.
14 Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.
15 Rejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep.
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.
16 Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:
Be of the same mind one towards another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.
17 recompensing to no one evil for evil: providing things honest before all men:
Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honourable in the sight of all men.
18 if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men;
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.
19 not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance [belongs] to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.
Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”
20 If therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.
Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
