Revelation 17
1 And one of the seven angels, which had the seven bowls, came and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will shew thee the sentence of the great harlot who sits upon the many waters;
Alors l'un des sept anges qui tenaient les sept coupes s'approcha; et, m'adressant la parole, il me dit: Viens, je te montrerai le jugement de la grande prostituée, qui est assise sur de grandes eaux.
2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication; and they that dwell on the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
C'est avec elle que les rois de la terre se sont livrés à l'impudicité, et du vin de son impudicité les habitants de la terre ont été enivrés.
3 And he carried me away in spirit to a desert; and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Il me transporta en esprit dans un désert; et je vis une femme assise sur une bête de couleur écarlate, couverte de noms blasphématoires, et qui avait sept têtes et dix cornes.
4 And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and had ornaments of gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the unclean things of her fornication;
Cette femme était vêtue, de pourpre et d'écarlate, parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles; elle tenait à la main une coupe d'or, pleine des abominations et de la souillure de ses impudicités.
5 and upon her forehead a name written, Mystery, great Babylon, the mother of the harlots, and of the abominations of the earth.
Sur son front était écrit un nom, un nom mystérieux: Babylone la grande, la mère des impudiques et de toutes les infamies de la terre.
6 And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. And I wondered, seeing her, with great wonder.
Je vis cette femme enivrée du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus; et en la voyant, je fus saisi d'un grand étonnement.
7 And the angel said to me, Why hast thou wondered? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast which carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
L'ange me dit: Pourquoi t'étonnes-tu? Je t'expliquerai le mystère de la femme et de la bête qui la porte, et qui a sept têtes et dix cornes.
8 The beast which thou sawest was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go into destruction: and they who dwell on the earth, whose names are not written from the founding of the world in the book of life, shall wonder, seeing the beast, that it was, and is not, and shall be present. (Abyssos g12)
La bête que tu as vue était, et elle n'est plus; elle doit monter de l'abîme et s'en aller à la perdition. Et les habitants de la terre, dont le nom n'est pas écrit dans le livre de vie depuis la fondation du monde, s'étonneront en voyant la bête, parce qu'elle était et qu'elle n'est plus, et qu'elle reparaîtra. 9 Here is the mind that has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains, whereon the woman sits.
C'est ici qu'il faut une intelligence guidée par la sagesse. Les sept têtes sont sept montagnes, sur lesquelles la femme est assise.
10 And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes he must remain [only] a little while.
Elles ont aussi sept rois; les cinq premiers sont tombés, l'un existe, et l'autre n'est pas encore venu; quand il sera venu, il ne doit durer que peu de temps.
11 And the beast that was and is not, he also is an eighth, and is of the seven, and goes into destruction.
Et la bête qui était, et qui n'est plus, est elle-même un huitième roi; elle est en même temps du nombre des sept, et elle s'en va à la perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have not yet received a kingdom, but receive authority as kings one hour with the beast.
Et les dix cornes que tu as vues, sont dix rois qui n'ont pas encore reçu de royaume; mais ils reçoivent le pouvoir royal, pour une heure, avec la bête.
13 These have one mind, and give their power and authority to the beast.
Ils ont un seul et même dessein, et ils donnent à la bête leur puissance et leur autorité.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings: and they [that are] with him called, and chosen, and faithful.
Ils combattront contre l'Agneau, et l'Agneau les vaincra, parce qu'il est le Seigneur des Seigneurs et le Roi des rois; et les appelés, les élus et les fidèles qui sont avec lui, les vaincront aussi.
15 And he says to me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
Puis il me dit: Les eaux que tu as vues, sur lesquelles est assise la prostituée, ce sont des peuples, des multitudes, des nations, et des langues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her with fire;
Les dix cornes que tu as vues, et la bête elle-même, haïront la prostituée, la dépouilleront et la mettront à nu, mangeront ses chairs et la consumeront par le feu.
17 for God has given to their hearts to do his mind, and to act with one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
Car Dieu leur a mis au coeur d'exécuter son dessein, d'avoir une même pensée, et de donner leur royaume à la bête, jusqu'à ce que les paroles de Dieu soient accomplies.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is the great city, which has kingship over the kings of the earth.
Et la femme que tu as vue, c'est la grande ville, qui exerce la royauté sur les rois de la terre.
