Psalms 90
1 A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations.
Ein Gebet Moses, des Mannes Gottes. / Adonái, du bist uns Zuflucht gewesen in allen Geschlechtern.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, and thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from eternity to eternity thou art God.
Eh Berge entstanden, / Eh Erd und Weltkreis geschaffen wurden, / Warst du schon da, o Gott; / Ja, von Ewigkeit bist du und bleibst in Ewigkeit.
3 Thou makest [mortal] man to return to dust, and sayest, Return, children of men.
Du wandeltest die Sterblichen in Staub / Und sprachst: "Kehrt wieder, ihr Menschenkinder!"
4 For a thousand years, in thy sight, are as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the night.
Denn in deinen Augen sind tausend Jahre / Wie der gestrige Tag, wenn er entschwindet, / Wie eine Wache in der Nacht.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are [as] a sleep: in the morning they are like grass [that] groweth up:
Du hast sie weggeschwemmt wie Morgenschlaf. / Sie glichen dem sprossenden Gras:
6 In the morning it flourisheth and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.
Am Morgen blüht es und sprosset neu, / Am Abend schneidet man's, und es verdorrt.
7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy fury are we troubled.
Denn geschwunden sind wir durch deinen Zorn, / Hinweggeschreckt durch deinen Grimm.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret [sins] in the light of thy countenance.
Du hast unsre Sünde vor dich gestellt, / Unser heimlich Tun in das helle Licht, / Das von deinem Antlitz strahlet.
9 For all our days pass away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a [passing] thought.
So sind all unsre Tage dahingefahren durch deinen Zorn, / Unsre Jahre haben wir zugebracht / Wie einen flüchtigen Gedanken.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if, by reason of strength, they be fourscore years, yet their pride is labour and vanity, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Unsre Lebenszeit — bei ihnen währet sie siebzig Jahr, / Und haben sie starke Lebenskraft, so sind es achtzig Jahr. / Und was sie mit Stolz erfüllte, das war nur Mühsal und Unglück. / Denn schnell ist's enteilt — wir flogen!
11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? and thy wrath according to the fear of thee?
Doch wer erkennt deines Zornes Gewalt / Und deinen Grimm, indem man dich fürchtet?
12 So teach [us] to number our days, that we may acquire a wise heart.
So lehr uns denn unsre Tage zählen, / Damit wir gewinnen ein weises Herz!
13 Return, Jehovah: how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
Wende dich, Jahwe (von deinem Zorn)! / Wie lange noch (soll er währen)? / Erbarme dich deiner Knechte!
14 Satisfy us early with thy loving-kindness; that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Füll uns am Morgen mit deiner Gnade, / So wollen wir all unsre Lebenstage / Jubeln und fröhlich sein!
15 Make us glad according to the days [wherein] thou hast afflicted us, according to the years [wherein] we have seen evil.
Erfreu uns so lange, wie du uns gebeugt, / So viel Jahre wir Unglück geschaut!
16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy majesty unto their sons.
Deinen Knechten erscheine dein herrliches Tun / Und deine Hoheit ihren Kindern!
17 And let the beauty of Jehovah our God be upon us; and establish thou the work of our hands upon us: yea, the work of our hands, establish thou it.
Jahwes, unsers Gottes, Huld walte über uns, / Ja, fördre das Werk unsrer Hände!
