Psalms 81
1 To the chief Musician. Upon the Gittith. [A Psalm] of Asaph. Sing ye joyously unto God our strength, shout aloud unto the God of Jacob;
Au maître de chant. Sur la Gitthienne. D’Asaph. Chantez avec allégresse en l’honneur de Dieu, notre force; poussez des cris de joie en l’honneur du Dieu de Jacob!
2 Raise a song, and sound the tambour, the pleasant harp with the lute.
Entonnez l’hymne, au son du tambourin, de la harpe harmonieuse et du luth!
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the set time, on our feast day:
Sonnez de la trompette à la nouvelle lune, à la pleine lune, pour le jour de notre fête.
4 For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob;
Car c’est un précepte pour Israël, une ordonnance du Dieu de Jacob.
5 He ordained it in Joseph [for] a testimony, when he went forth over the land of Egypt, [where] I heard a language that I knew not.
Il en fit une loi pour Joseph, quand il marcha contre le pays d’Égypte. J’entends une voix qui m’est inconnue:
6 I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.
« J’ai déchargé son épaule du fardeau, et ses mains ont quitté la corbeille.
7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. (Selah)
Tu as crié dans la détresse, et je t’ai délivré; je t’ai répondu du sein de la nuée orageuse; je t’ai éprouvé aux eaux de Mériba. — Séla.
8 Hear, my people, and I will testify unto thee; O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!
« Écoute, mon peuple, je veux te donner un avertissement; Israël, puisses-tu m’écouter!
9 There shall no strange god be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.
Qu’il n’y ait point au milieu de toi de dieu étranger: n’adore pas le dieu d’un autre peuple.
10 I am Jehovah thy God, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
« C’est moi, Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui t’ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte. Ouvre la bouche, et je la remplirai.
11 But my people hearkened not to my voice, and Israel would none of me.
« Mais mon peuple n’a pas écouté ma voix, Israël ne m’a pas obéi.
12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' stubbornness: they walked after their own counsels.
Alors je l’ai abandonné à l’endurcissement de son cœur, et ils ont suivi leurs propres conseils.
13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, that Israel had walked in my ways!
« Ah! si mon peuple m’écoutait, si Israël marchait dans mes voies!…
14 I would soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
Bientôt je confondrais leurs ennemis; je tournerais ma main contre leurs oppresseurs.
15 The haters of Jehovah would have come cringing unto him; but their time would have been for ever.
« Ceux qui haïssent Yahweh le flatteraient, et la durée d’Israël serait assurée pour toujours.
16 And he would have fed them with the finest of wheat; yea, with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied thee.
Je le nourrirais de la fleur de froment, et je le rassasierais du miel du rocher. »
