Psalms 8

1 To the chief Musician. Upon the Gittith. A Psalm of David. Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy majesty above the heavens.

Dem Sangmeister, auf der Gittit. Ein Psalm Davids.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established praise because of thine adversaries, to still the enemy and the avenger.

Jahwe, unser Herrscher, / Wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde! / Deine Hoheit zeigst du droben im Himmel.

3 When I see thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and stars, which thou hast established;

Aus Kinder- und Säuglingsmund hast du ein Bollwerk gegründet / Deinen Widersachern zum Trutz, / Um Feind und Empörer zum Schweigen zu bringen.

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

So oft ich die Himmel betrachte, deiner Hände Werk, / Den Mond und die Sterne, die du bereitet:

5 Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and splendour.

Was ist da der Mensch, daß du sein gedenkst, / Und der Menschensohn, daß du für ihn so liebreich sorgst?

6 Thou hast made him to rule over the works of thy hands; thou hast put everything under his feet:

Du hast ihn nur wenig geringer gemacht als die himmlischen Wesen, / Mit Ehre und Würde hast du ihn gekrönt.

7 Sheep and oxen, all of them, and also the beasts of the field;

Du hast ihn zum Herrscher gemacht über deiner Hände Werke, / Alles hast du ihm unter die Füße gelegt:

8 The fowl of the heavens, and the fishes of the sea, [whatever] passeth through the paths of the seas.

Schafe und Rinder insgesamt, / Dazu auch die Tiere der Felder,

9 Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Die Vögel des Himmels und die Fische im Meer. / Auch durchzieht er die Bahnen der Meere. Jahwe, unser Herrscher, / Wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde!
