Psalms 78
1 An instruction. Of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
Instrução de Asafe: Povo meu, escuta minha doutrina; inclinai vossos ouvidos às palavras de minha boca.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter riddles from of old,
Abrirei minha boca em parábolas; falarei mistérios dos tempos antigos,
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us:
Os quais ouvimos e conhecemos, e nossos pais nos contaram.
4 We will not hide [them] from their sons, shewing forth to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, and his strength, and his marvellous works which he hath done.
Nós não [os] encobriremos a seus filhos, contaremos à próxima geração sobre os louvores do SENHOR, o seu poder, e suas maravilhas que ele fez.
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
Porque ele firmou um testemunho em Jacó, e pôs a Lei em Israel, a qual ele instruiu aos nossos pais, para que eles ensinassem a seus filhos;
6 That the generation to come might know [them], the children that should be born; that they might rise up and tell [them] to their children,
Para que a geração seguinte [dela] soubesse; [e] os filhos que nascessem contassem a seus filhos;
7 And that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but observe his commandments;
E [assim] pusessem sua esperança em Deus; e não se esquecessem dos feitos de Deus, mas sim, que guardassem os mandamentos dele;
8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that prepared not their heart, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
E não fossem como seus pais, [que foram] uma geração teimosa e rebelde; geração que não firmou seu coração, e cujo espírito não foi fiel a Deus.
9 The sons of Ephraim, armed bowmen, turned back in the day of battle.
Os filhos de Efraim, mesmo tendo arcos e flechas, viraram-se para trás no dia da batalha;
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
Não guardaram o pacto de Deus, e recusaram a andar conforme sua Lei.
11 And forgot his doings, and his marvellous works which he had shewn them.
E se esqueceram de seus feitos, e de suas maravilhas que ele tinha lhes feito ver.
12 In the sight of their fathers had he done wonders, in the land of Egypt, the field of Zoan.
Ele fez maravilhas perante seus pais na terra do Egito, [no] campo de Zoã.
13 He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through; and made the waters to stand as a heap;
Ele dividiu o mar, e os fez passarem por ele; ele fez as águas ficarem paradas como [se estivessem] amontoadas.
14 And he led them with a cloud in the daytime, and all the night with the light of fire.
E ele os guiou com uma nuvem durante o dia, e por toda a noite com uma luz de fogo.
15 He clave rocks in the wilderness, and gave [them] drink as out of the depths, abundantly;
Ele partiu as rochas no deserto, e [lhes] deu de beber como que de abismos profundos.
16 And he brought streams out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
Porque ele tirou correntes da rocha, e fez as águas descerem como rios.
17 Yet they still went on sinning against him, provoking the Most High in the desert;
E [ainda] prosseguiram em pecar contra ele, irritando ao Altíssimo no deserto.
18 And they tempted God in their heart, by asking meat for their lust;
E tentaram a Deus nos seus corações, pedindo comida para o desejo de suas almas.
19 And they spoke against God: they said, Is God able to prepare a table in the wilderness?
E falaram contra Deus, e disseram: Poderia Deus preparar uma mesa de comida no deserto?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, and waters gushed out, and streams overflowed; is he able to give bread also, or provide flesh for his people?
Eis que ele feriu a rocha, e águas correram [dela] e ribeiros fluíram em abundância; será que ele também poderia [nos] dar pão, ou preparar carne a seu povo?
21 Therefore Jehovah heard, and was wroth; and fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also went up against Israel:
Por isso o SENHOR [os] ouviu, e se irritou; e fogo se acendeu contra Jacó, e furor também subiu contra Israel;
22 Because they believed not in God, and confided not in his salvation;
Porque eles não creram em Deus, nem confiaram na salvação que dele vem;
23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of the heavens,
Mesmo assim, ele deu ordens às altas nuvens, e abriu as portas dos céus;
24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them the corn of the heavens.
E choveu sobre eles o maná, para comerem; e lhes deu trigo dos céus.
25 Man did eat the bread of the mighty; he sent them provision to the full.
Cada homem [daquele povo] comeu o pão dos anjos; ele lhes mandou comida para se fartarem.
26 He caused the east wind to rise in the heavens, and by his strength he brought the south wind;
Ele fez soprar o vento do oriente nos céus, e trouxe o [vento] do sul com seu poder.
27 And he rained flesh upon them as dust, and feathered fowl as the sand of the seas,
Ele fez chover sobre eles carne como a poeira da terra; e aves de asas como a areia do mar;
28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations:
E [as] fez cair no meio de seu acampamento, ao redor de suas tendas.
29 And they did eat, and were well filled; for that they lusted after, he brought to them.
Então comeram, e fartaram-se abundantemente; e satisfez o desejo deles.
30 They were not alienated from their lust, their meat was yet in their mouths,
Porem, estando eles [ainda] não satisfeitos, enquanto a comida ainda estava em suas bocas,
31 When the anger of God went up against them; and he slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
a ira de Deus subiu contra eles; matou os mais robustos deles e abateu os jovens de Israel.
32 For all this, they sinned still, and believed not in his marvellous works;
Com tudo isto ainda pecaram, e não creram nas maravilhas que ele fez.
33 And he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
Por isso gastaram seus dias em futilidades, e seus anos em terrores.
34 When he slew them, then they sought him, and returned and sought early after God;
Quando ele matava [alguns dentre] eles, então buscavam por ele, e se convertiam, e buscavam a Deus de madrugada.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and God, the Most High, their redeemer.
E se lembravam de que Deus era sua rocha, e que o Deus Altíssimo [era] o seu libertador.
36 But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied unto him with their tongue;
Porém falavam bem dele da boca para fora, e mentiam com suas línguas.
37 For their heart was not firm toward him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
Porque o coração deles não era comprometido para com ele, e não foram fiéis ao pacto dele.
38 But he was merciful: he forgave the iniquity, and destroyed [them] not; but many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his fury:
Porém ele, sendo misericordioso, perdoava a maldade deles, e não os destruía; e muitas vezes desviou de mostrar sua ira, e não despertou todo o seu furor;
39 And he remembered that they were flesh, a breath that passeth away and cometh not again.
[Porque] se lembrou de que eles eram carne, e [como] o vento, que vai, e não volta mais.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
Quantas vezes o provocaram no deserto, e o maltrataram na terra desabitada!
41 And they turned again and tempted God, and grieved the Holy One of Israel.
Pois voltavam a tentar a Deus, e perturbavam ao Santo de Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day when he delivered them from the oppressor,
Não se lembraram de sua mão, [nem] do dia em que os livrou do adversário.
43 How he set his signs in Egypt, and his miracles in the field of Zoan;
Como quando ele fez seus sinais no Egito, e seus atos maravilhosos no campo de Zoã.
44 And turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, that they could not drink;
E transformou seus rios e suas correntes em sangue, para que não bebessem.
45 He sent dog-flies among them, which devoured them, and frogs, which destroyed them;
Enviou entre eles variedades de moscas, que os consumiu; e rãs, que os destruíram.
46 And he gave their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labour unto the locust;
E deu suas colheitas ao pulgão, e o trabalho deles ao gafanhoto.
47 He killed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with hail-stones;
Com saraiva destruiu suas vinhas, e suas figueiras-bravas com granizo.
48 And he delivered up their cattle to the hail, and their flocks to thunderbolts.
E entregou seu gado à saraiva; e seus animais a brasas ardentes.
49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and distress, — a mission of angels of woes.
Mandou entre eles o ardor de sua ira: fúria, irritação e angústia, enviando mensageiros do mal.
50 He made a way for his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
Ele preparou o caminho de sua ira; não poupou suas almas da morte, e entregou seus animais à peste.
51 And he smote all the firstborn in Egypt, the first-fruits of their vigour in the tents of Ham.
E feriu [mortalmente] a todo primogênito no Egito; as primícias nas forças nas tendas de Cam.
52 And he made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock;
E levou a seu povo como a ovelhas; e os guiou pelo deserto como a um rebanho.
53 And he led them safely, so that they were without fear; and the sea covered their enemies.
Ele os conduziu em segurança, e não temeram. O mar encobriu seus inimigos.
54 And he brought them to his holy border, this mountain, which his right hand purchased;
E os trouxe até os limites de sua [terra] santa, até este monte, que sua mão direita adquiriu.
55 And he drove out the nations before them, and allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
E expulsou as nações de diante deles, e fez com que eles repartissem as linhas de sua herança, e fez as tribos de Israel habitarem em suas tendas.
56 But they tempted and provoked God, the Most High, and kept not his testimonies,
Porém eles tentaram e provocaram ao Deus Altíssimo; e não guardaram os testemunhos dele.
57 And they drew back and dealt treacherously like their fathers: they turned like a deceitful bow.
E voltaram a ser [tão] infiéis como os seus pais; desviaram-se como um arco enganoso.
58 And they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
E provocaram a ira dele com seus altares pagãos, e com suas imagens de escultura moveram-no de ciúmes.
59 God heard, and was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
Deus ouviu [isto], e se indignou; e rejeitou gravemente a Israel.
60 And he forsook the tabernacle at Shiloh, the tent where he had dwelt among men,
Por isso ele abandonou o tabernáculo em Siló, a tenda que ele havia estabelecido como habitação entre as pessoas.
61 And gave his strength into captivity, and his glory into the hand of the oppressor;
E entregou o [símbolo] de seu poder em cativeiro, e sua glória na mão do adversário.
62 And delivered up his people unto the sword, and was very wroth with his inheritance:
E entregou seu povo à espada, e enfureceu-se contra sua herança.
63 The fire consumed their young men, and their maidens were not praised in [nuptial] song;
O fogo consumiu a seus rapazes, e suas virgens não tiveram músicas de casamento.
64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows made no lamentation.
Seus sacerdotes caíram à espada, e suas viúvas não lamentaram.
65 Then the Lord awoke as one out of sleep, like a mighty man that shouteth aloud by reason of wine;
Então o Senhor despertou como que do sono, como um homem valente que se exalta com o vinho.
66 And he smote his adversaries in the hinder part, and put them to everlasting reproach.
E feriu a seus adversários, para que recuassem, [e] lhes pôs como humilhação perpétua.
67 And he rejected the tent of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim,
Porém ele rejeitou a tenda de José, e não escolheu a tribo de Efraim.
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved;
Mas escolheu a tribo de Judá, o monte de Sião, a quem ele amava.
69 And he built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he hath founded for ever.
E edificou seu santuário como alturas; como a terra, a qual ele fundou para sempre.
70 And he chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
E ele escolheu a seu servo Davi; e o tomou dos apriscos de ovelhas.
71 From following the suckling-ewes, he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
Ele o tirou de cuidar das ovelhas geradoras de filhotes, para que ele apascentasse ao seu povo Jacó; e à sua herança Israel.
72 And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart, and led them by the skilfulness of his hands.
E ele os apascentou com um coração sincero, e os guiou com as habilidades de suas mãos.
