< Psalms 54 >

1 To the chief Musician. On stringed instruments: an instruction. Of David; when the Ziphites came, and said to Saul, Is not David hiding himself with us? O God, by thy name save me, and by thy strength do me justice.
Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.
2 O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.
Sh'ma ·Hear obey· my prayer, God. Listen to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers are risen up against me, and the violent seek after my life: they have not set God before them. (Selah)
For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven’t set God before them. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is among them that uphold my soul.
Behold, God is my helper. 'Adonay [Lord] is the one who sustains my soul.
5 He will requite evil to mine enemies: in thy truth cut them off.
He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee; I will praise thy name, O Jehovah, because it is good.
With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to your name, Adonai, for it is good.
7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble; and mine eye hath seen [its desire] upon mine enemies.
For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.
