< Psalms 5 >

1 To the chief Musician. Upon Nehiloth. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O Jehovah; consider my (meditation)
For the chief musician; with wind instruments. A psalm of David. Listen to my call to you, Yahweh; think about my groanings.
2 Hearken unto the voice of my crying, my king and my God; for to thee will I pray.
Listen to the sound of my call, my King and my God, for it is to you that I pray.
3 Jehovah, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice; in the morning will I address myself to thee, and will look up.
Yahweh, in the morning you hear my cry; in the morning I will bring my petition to you and wait expectantly.
4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with thee.
Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people will not be your guests.
5 Insolent fools shall not stand before thine eyes; thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
The arrogant will not stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly.
6 Thou wilt destroy them that speak lies: Jehovah abhorreth a man of blood and deceit.
You will destroy liars; Yahweh despises violent and deceitful men.
7 But as for me, in the greatness of thy loving-kindness will I enter thy house; I will bow down toward the temple of thy holiness in thy fear.
But as for me, because of your great covenant faithfulness, I will come into your house; in reverence I will bow down toward your holy temple.
8 Lead me, Jehovah, in thy righteousness, because of my foes; make thy way plain before me.
Oh Lord, lead me in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your path straight before me.
9 For there is no certainty in their mouth; their inward part is perversion, their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
For there is no truth in their mouth; their inward being is wicked; their throat is an open tomb; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Bring guilt upon them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels: drive them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against thee.
Declare them guilty, God; may their schemes be their downfall! Drive them out for their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against you.
11 And all that trust in thee shall rejoice: for ever shall they shout joyously, and thou wilt protect them; and they that love thy name shall exult in thee.
But may all those who take refuge in you rejoice; let them always shout for joy because you defend them; let them be joyful in you, those who love your name.
12 For thou, Jehovah, wilt bless the righteous [man]; with favour wilt thou surround him as [with] a shield.
For you will bless the righteous, Yahweh; you will surround them with favor as with a shield.
