Psalms 48
1 A Song; a Psalm. Of the sons of Korah. Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the hill of his holiness.
Cantique. — Psaume des enfants de Coré. L'Éternel est grand et digne de toute louange. Dans la ville de notre Dieu, sur sa montagne sainte.
2 Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Elle s'élève avec grâce, du côté du Septentrion, La montagne de Sion, joie de toute la terre: C'est la cité du grand roi.
3 God is known in her palaces as a high fortress.
Dans ses palais, Dieu se révèle à nous Comme un rempart.
4 For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together;
Les rois s'étaient donné rendez-vous; Ils s'avançaient, ensemble.
5 They saw, — so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation:
Ils virent Jérusalem; ils furent frappés d'étonnement, Terrifiés, mis en déroute.
6 Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail.
Soudain, ils furent saisis d'un tremblement, D'une angoisse pareille à celle de la femme qui enfante.
7 With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish.
Au souffle du vent de l'Orient, Tu brises les navires de Tarsis.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. (Selah)
Ce que nous avions entendu dire, nous l'avons vu Dans la ville de l'Éternel des armées, Dans la cité de notre Dieu: Dieu fera subsister Jérusalem à jamais. (Pause)
9 We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple.
Dieu, nous avons contemplé ta bonté Au milieu de ton temple.
10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
Ainsi que ton nom, ô Dieu, Ta louange retentit jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. Ta main droite est pleine de justice.
11 Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
Que la montagne de Sion se réjouisse; Que les filles de Juda tressaillent d'allégresse, A cause de tes jugements.
12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof;
Faites le tour de Sion, parcourez son enceinte, Comptez ses tours,
13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following.
Considérez ses remparts, Examinez ses palais, Pour dire à la génération future:
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide until death.
«Ce Dieu est notre Dieu, pour toujours, à perpétuité; Il nous fera surmonter la mort!»
