< Psalms 123 >
1 A Song of degrees. Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. I look up to you, the one who rules from heaven.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes [are directed] to Jehovah our God, until he be gracious unto us.
Just as servants look to their master, or a maid looks to her mistress, so we keep our eyes on you, Lord our God, waiting for you to be merciful to us.
3 Be gracious unto us, O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
Please have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. We've had enough of people's contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.
We've had more than enough of the scorn of the proud, and the contempt of the arrogant.
