Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know intelligence;
Escuchen, hijos, la instrucción de un padre. Estén atentos al sano juicio,
2 for I give you good doctrine: forsake ye not my law.
porque lo que les diré es consejo fiel. No rechacen mis enseñanzas.
3 For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother.
Porque yo también fui hijo de mi padre, un joven tierno, e hijo único de mi madre
4 And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thy heart retain my words; keep my commandments and live.
y él fue quien me instruyó. Me dijo: “Presta atención a las palabras que te digo y no las olvides. Haz lo que te digo y vivirás.
5 Get wisdom, get intelligence: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Obtén sabiduría, busca el sano juicio. No olvides mis palabras, ni las desprecies.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee; love her, and she shall preserve thee.
“No abandones la sabiduría porque ella te mantendrá a salvo. Ama la sabiduría y ella te protegerá.
7 The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.
Lo primero que debes hacer para ser sabio es obtener sabiduría. Junto a todo lo que obtengas, procura obtener inteligencia.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her.
Atesora la sabiduría y ella te alabará. Abrázala y ella te honrará.
9 She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.
Colocará sobre tu cabeza una corona de gracia, y te ofrecerá una corona de gloria”.
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.
Escucha, hijo mío. Si aceptas lo que te digo, vivirás larga vida.
11 I will teach thee in the way of wisdom, I will lead thee in paths of uprightness.
Te he explicado el camino de la sabiduría. Te he guiado por los caminos de rectitud.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
No habrá obstáculos cuando camines, ni tropezarás al correr.
13 Take fast hold of instruction, let [her] not go: keep her, for she is thy life.
Aférrate a estas instrucciones, y no las dejes ir. Protégelas, porque son el cimiento de la vida.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men]:
No andes por el camino de los malvados, ni sigas el ejemplo de los que hacen el mal.
15 avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away.
Evítalos por completo y no vayas por allí. Da la vuelta y sigue tu camino.
16 For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.
Los malvados no descansan hasta haber cometido maldad. No pueden dormir sin haber engañado a alguna persona.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Porque comen del pan de la maldad y beben del vino de la violencia.
18 But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come.
La vida de los que hacen el bien es como la luz de la aurora, que va en aumento hasta que su luz llega a plenitud del día.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
Pero la vida de los malvados es como la total oscuridad, en la que no pueden ver con qué tropiezan.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Hijo mío, presta atención a lo que te digo y escucha mis palabras.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.
No las pierdas de vista y reflexiona sobre ellas,
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
porque son vida para quien las encuentra, y traen sanidad a todo el cuerpo.
23 Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.
Por encima de todas las cosas, protege tu mente, pues todo en la vida procede de ella.
24 Put away from thee perverseness of mouth, and corrupt lips put far from thee.
Nunca mientas, ni hables con deshonestidad.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Enfócate en lo que está delante de ti, mira lo que tienes adelante.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be well-ordered.
Pon tu atención en el camino que te has propuesto, y estarás seguro donde vayas.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
No te apartes ni a la derecha, ni a la izquierda, y aléjate del mal.
