Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know intelligence;
Ouvi, filhos, a correção do pai, e estai atentos para conhecerdes a prudência.
2 for I give you good doctrine: forsake ye not my law.
Pois dou-vos boa doutrina: não deixeis a minha lei.
3 For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother.
Porque eu era filho de meu pai: tenro, e único diante de minha mãe.
4 And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thy heart retain my words; keep my commandments and live.
E ele ensinava-me, e dizia-me: Retenha as minhas palavras o teu coração: guarda os meus mandamentos, e vive.
5 Get wisdom, get intelligence: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Adquire a sabedoria, adquire a inteligência, e não te esqueças nem te apartes das palavras da minha boca.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee; love her, and she shall preserve thee.
Não a desampares, e ela te guardará: ama-a, e ela se te conservará.
7 The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.
O princípio da sabedoria é adquirir a sabedoria: adquire pois a sabedoria, e com toda a tua possessão adquire o entendimento.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her.
Exalta-a, e ela te exaltará; e, abraçando-a tu, ela te honrará.
9 She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.
Dará à tua cabeça um diadema de graça e uma coroa de glória te entregará.
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.
Ouve, filho meu, e aceita as minhas palavras, e se te multiplicarão os anos de vida.
11 I will teach thee in the way of wisdom, I will lead thee in paths of uprightness.
No caminho da sabedoria te ensinei, e pelas carreiras direitas te fiz andar.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Por elas andando, não se estreitarão os teus passos; e, se correres, não tropeçarás.
13 Take fast hold of instruction, let [her] not go: keep her, for she is thy life.
Pega-te à correção e não a largues: guarda-a, porque ela é a tua vida
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men]:
Não entres na vereda dos ímpios, nem andes pelo caminho dos maus.
15 avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away.
Rejeita-o; não passes por ele: desvia-te dele e passa de largo.
16 For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.
Pois não dormem, se não fizerem mal, e foge deles o sono se não fizerem tropeçar alguém.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Porque comem o pão da impiedade, e bebem o vinho das violências.
18 But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come.
Porém a vereda dos justos é como a luz resplandecente que vai adiante e alumia até ao dia perfeito.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
O caminho dos ímpios é como a escuridão: nem sabem em que tropeçarão.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Filho meu, atenta para as minhas palavras: às minhas razões inclina o teu ouvido.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.
Não as deixes apartar-se dos teus olhos: guarda-as no meio do teu coração.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Porque são vida para os que as acham, e saúde para todo o seu corpo.
23 Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.
Sobre tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração, porque dele procedem as saídas da vida.
24 Put away from thee perverseness of mouth, and corrupt lips put far from thee.
Desvia de ti a tortuosidade da boca, e alonga de ti a perversidade dos beiços.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Os teus olhos olhem direitos, e as tuas pálpebras olhem diretamente diante de ti.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be well-ordered.
Pondera a vereda de teus pés, e todos os teus caminhos sejam bem ordenados!
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
Não declines nem para a direita nem para a esquerda: retira o teu pé do mal.
