Proverbs 31
1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him:
Die Worte an den König Lemuel, ein Spruch, den seine Mutter lehrte:
2 What, my son? and what, O son of my womb? and what, O son of my vows?
"Was soll ich dir, mein Sohn, was Lemuel, mein Erstgeborener, dir sagen? Nicht doch, du meines Leibes Sohn, nicht doch du Sohn, den durch Gelübde ich erworben!
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to them that destroy kings.
Nicht gib den Weibern deine Kraft, noch deine Liebe Königs Freundinnen!
4 It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for rulers [to say], Where is the strong drink?
Nicht ziemt den Königen, o Lemuel, nicht ziemt den Königen der Weingenuß, so wenig, wie den Fürsten der des Bieres,
5 — lest they drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the children of affliction.
daß er nicht zeche und des Rechts vergäße und der Bedrückten Sache ändere.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto the bitter of soul:
Dem Elenden gebt Bier und dem betrübten Herzen Wein!
7 let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Er soll nur trinken und des Jammers so vergessen und seines Leids nicht mehr gedenken!
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all those that are left desolate.
Tu deinen Mund für Stumme auf und für die Sache derer, die Vertretung nötig haben!
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and minister justice to the afflicted and needy.
Tu deinen Mund auf als gerechter Herrscher, als Anwalt des Bedrängten und des Armen!"
10 Who can find a woman of worth? for her price is far above rubies.
Ah, wem ein wackres Weib zuteil geworden, dem geht sie über Perlenwert.
11 The heart of her husband confideth in her, and he shall have no lack of spoil.
Bei ihrem Mann genießt sie Zutrauen, und an Gewinn fehlt es ihm nicht.
12 She doeth him good, and not evil, all the days of her life.
Charitin ist sie ihm; sie tut ihm nie ein Leid ihr ganzes Leben.
13 She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
Die Arbeit nur ist ihre Lust; sie sieht sich um nach Wolle und nach Flachs.
14 She is like the merchants' ships: she bringeth her food from afar;
Einem Kauffahrerschiff gleicht sie, von ferne schafft sie sich die Nahrung her.
15 And she riseth while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and the day's work to her maidens.
Früh bricht sie in der Nacht den Schlaf, bereitet Speise ihrem Hausgesinde.
16 She considereth a field, and acquireth it; of the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
Gern hätte sie ein Feld; sie kauft es vom Ersparten sich und eines Weinbergs Pflanzung.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and maketh strong her arms.
Hat ihre Lenden fest gegürtet, und rüstig reget sie die Arme.
18 She perceiveth that her earning is good; her lamp goeth not out by night.
Jetzt sieht sie, wie voran geht alles, und ihre Lampe bleibt des Nachts nicht ausgelöscht.
19 She putteth her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.
Kommt sie alsdann zum Stoff für's Spinnen, so fassen ihre Hände fest die Spindel.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the afflicted, and she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
Lädt Arme ein; dem Elenden gibt sie die Hand.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Mit Winterschnee nimmt für ihr Hausgesinde sie es auf; in doppelte Gewandung hüllet sie die Ihren.
22 She maketh herself coverlets; her clothing is byssus and purple.
Näht Teppiche für sich aus Linnen und aus dem Purpur Kleider.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Obenan steht in den Schulen ihr Gemahl, wenn mit den Ältesten des Landes er zusaminensitzt.
24 She maketh body linen and selleth it, and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Phöniziens Händlern gibt sie Gürtel; ein feines Unterkleid hat sie gefertigt und verkauft es.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laugheth [at] the coming day.
Reich, prächtig ist ihr Kleid, und so lacht sie des künftigen Tages.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and upon her tongue is the law of kindness.
Sie spricht, und lautere Wahrheit ist's, und was sie redet, ist nur liebevolle Lehre.
27 She surveyeth the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Tatkräftig überwacht sie ihres Hauses Ordnung, und Brot der Faulheit läßt sie nicht genießen.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her:
Und wo sich ihre Kinder zeigen, preist man sie und rühmt sie, wo ihr Gatte:
29 Many daughters have done worthily, but thou excellest them all.
"Viel Frauen haben wacker sich gezeigt; du aber übertriffst sie alle.
30 Gracefulness is deceitful and beauty is vain; a woman [that] feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.
Wie schwinden Anmut hin und Schönheit! Ein Weib, das Furcht hat vor dem Herrn, das soll man rühmen!
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Zollt ihr, was ihr gebührt! Selbst in den Toren künden ihre Werke ihren Ruhm."
