Proverbs 29
1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and without remedy.
L'uomo che, rimproverato, resta di dura cervice sarà spezzato all'improvviso e senza rimedio.
2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Quando comandano i giusti, il popolo gioisce, quando governano gli empi, il popolo geme.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth [his] substance.
Chi ama la sapienza allieta il padre, ma chi frequenta prostitute dissipa il patrimonio.
4 A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
Il re con la giustizia rende prospero il paese, l'uomo che fa esazioni eccessive lo rovina.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
L'uomo che adula il suo prossimo gli tende una rete per i suoi passi.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
Sotto i passi del malvagio c'è un trabocchetto, mentre il giusto corre ed è contento.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
Il giusto si prende a cuore la causa dei miseri, ma l'empio non intende ragione.
8 Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
I beffardi mettono sottosopra una città, mentre i saggi placano la collera.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, [he] hath no rest.
Se un saggio discute con uno stolto, si agiti o rida, non vi sarà conclusione.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
Gli uomini sanguinari odiano l'onesto, mentre i giusti hanno cura di lui.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.
Lo stolto dà sfogo a tutto il suo malanimo, il saggio alla fine lo sa calmare.
12 If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
Se un principe dà ascolto alle menzogne, tutti i suoi ministri sono malvagi.
13 The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
Il povero e l'usuraio si incontrano; è il Signore che illumina gli occhi di tutti e due.
14 A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
Un re che giudichi i poveri con equità rende saldo il suo trono per sempre.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
La verga e la correzione danno sapienza, ma il giovane lasciato a se stesso disonora sua madre.
16 When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
Quando governano i malvagi, i delitti abbondano, ma i giusti ne vedranno la rovina.
17 Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
Correggi il figlio e ti farà contento e ti procurerà consolazioni.
18 Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
Senza la rivelazione il popolo diventa sfrenato; beato chi osserva la legge.
19 A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
Lo schiavo non si corregge a parole, comprende, infatti, ma non obbedisce.
20 Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Hai visto un uomo precipitoso nel parlare? C'è più da sperare in uno stolto che in lui.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
Chi accarezza lo schiavo fin dall'infanzia, alla fine costui diventerà insolente.
22 An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Un uomo collerico suscita litigi e l'iracondo commette molte colpe.
23 A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
L'orgoglio dell'uomo ne provoca l'umiliazione, l'umile di cuore ottiene onori.
24 Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
Chi è complice del ladro, odia se stesso, egli sente l'imprecazione, ma non denuncia nulla.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
Il temere gli uomini pone in una trappola; ma chi confida nel Signore è al sicuro.
26 Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
Molti ricercano il favore del principe, ma è il Signore che giudica ognuno.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is of upright way is an abomination to the wicked [man].
L'iniquo è un abominio per i giusti e gli uomini retti sono in abominio ai malvagi.
