Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour beseemeth not a fool.
Como la nieve en verano, y como la lluvia en la cosecha, por lo que el honor no es propio de un tonto.
2 As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallow for flying, so a curse undeserved shall not come.
Como un gorrión que revolotea, como una golondrina, para que la maldición inmerecida no llegue a su fin.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
El látigo es para el caballo, una brida para el burro, ¡y una vara para la espalda de los tontos!
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
No respondas al necio según su necedad, para que no seáis también como él.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
Responde al necio según su necedad, para no ser sabio en sus propios ojos.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh damage.
El que envía un mensaje de la mano de un tonto es cortar los pies y beber con violencia.
7 The legs of the lame hang loose; so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Como las piernas de los cojos que cuelgan sueltas, así es una parábola en boca de los tontos.
8 As a bag of gems in a stoneheap, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
Como quien ata una piedra en una honda, así es el que da honor a un tonto.
9 [As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Como un arbusto de espinas que va a la mano de un borracho, así es una parábola en boca de los tontos.
10 A master roughly worketh every one: he both hireth the fool and hireth passers-by.
Como un arquero que hiere a todos, así es el que contrata a un tonto o el que contrata a los que pasan.
11 As a dog turneth back to its vomit, [so] a fool repeateth his folly.
Como un perro que vuelve a su vómito, así es un tonto que repite su locura.
12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
¿Ves a un hombre sabio en sus propios ojos? Hay más esperanza para un tonto que para él.
13 The sluggard saith, There is a fierce lion in the way; a lion is in the midst of the streets!
El perezoso dice: “¡Hay un león en el camino! Un león feroz recorre las calles”.
14 [As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggard upon his bed.
Mientras la puerta gira sobre sus goznes, también lo hace el perezoso en su cama.
15 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish: it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
El perezoso entierra su mano en el plato. Es demasiado perezoso para llevárselo a la boca.
16 A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.
El perezoso es más sabio a sus propios ojos que siete hombres que responden con discreción.
17 He that passing by vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
Como quien agarra las orejas de un perro es el que pasa y se entromete en una disputa que no es la suya.
18 As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
Como un loco que dispara antorchas, flechas y muerte,
19 so is a man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport?
es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo y dice: “¿No estoy bromeando?”
20 Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no talebearer, the contention ceaseth.
Por falta de leña se apaga el fuego. Sin chismes, una pelea se apaga.
21 [As] coals for hot coals, and wood for fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
Como los carbones a las brasas, y leña al fuego, así que es un hombre contencioso para encender el conflicto.
22 The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Las palabras de un susurrador son como bocados delicados, bajan a las partes más internas.
23 Ardent lips, and a wicked heart, are [as] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
Como escoria de plata en una vasija de barro son los labios de un ferviente con un corazón malvado.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him:
El hombre malicioso se disfraza con sus labios, pero alberga el mal en su corazón.
25 when his voice is gracious, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
Cuando su discurso es encantador, no le creas, porque hay siete abominaciones en su corazón.
26 Though [his] hatred is covered by dissimulation, his wickedness shall be made manifest in the congregation.
Su malicia puede ser ocultada por el engaño, pero su maldad será expuesta en la asamblea.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
El que cava una fosa caerá en ella. Quien hace rodar una piedra, se vuelve contra él.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are injured by it, and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
La lengua mentirosa odia a los que hiere; y una boca halagadora trabaja la ruina.
