Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour beseemeth not a fool.
വേനൽക്കാലത്തു മഞ്ഞും വിളവെടുപ്പിനു മഴയുംപോലെ, ഭോഷർക്കു ബഹുമതിയും അനുയോജ്യമല്ല.
2 As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallow for flying, so a curse undeserved shall not come.
പാറിപ്പറക്കുന്ന കുരികിലും ശരവേഗത്തിൽ പറക്കുന്ന മീവൽപ്പക്ഷിയുംപോലെ, കാരണംകൂടാതെയുള്ള ശാപം ലക്ഷ്യസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തുന്നില്ല.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
കുതിരയ്ക്കൊരു ചാട്ടവാർ, കഴുതയ്ക്കൊരു കടിഞ്ഞാൺ, ഭോഷർക്കു മുതുകിലൊരു വടി!
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
ഭോഷരുടെ മടയത്തരത്തിന് അനുസൃതമായി മറുപടിനൽകരുത്, അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നീയും അവരെപ്പോലെ ഭോഷരായിത്തീരും.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
ഭോഷർക്കു തങ്ങൾ ജ്ഞാനി എന്നു സ്വയം തോന്നാതിരിക്കാൻ, അവരുടെ ഭോഷത്തരത്തിന് അനുസൃതമായ മറുപടിനൽകുക.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh damage.
ഒരു ഭോഷന്റെ കൈവശം സന്ദേശം കൊടുത്തയയ്ക്കുന്നത് സ്വന്തം പാദങ്ങൾ വെട്ടിക്കളയുകയോ വിഷം കുടിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെയാണ്.
7 The legs of the lame hang loose; so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
മുടന്തനായ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമായ കാൽപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങൾ.
8 As a bag of gems in a stoneheap, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
കവിണയിൽ കല്ലു തൊടുക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷനു ബഹുമതി നൽകുന്നത്.
9 [As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
മദ്യപാനിയുടെ കൈയിൽത്തറച്ച മുള്ളുപോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുള്ള സുഭാഷിതങ്ങൾ.
10 A master roughly worketh every one: he both hireth the fool and hireth passers-by.
കണ്ണിൽക്കാണുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ മുറിവേൽപ്പിക്കുന്ന വില്ലാളിയെപ്പോലെയാണ് ഭോഷരെയോ വഴിപോക്കരെയോ കൂലിക്കെടുക്കുന്നയാൾ.
11 As a dog turneth back to its vomit, [so] a fool repeateth his folly.
നായ അതിന്റെ ഛർദിയിലേക്കു തിരിയുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ, ഭോഷർ തങ്ങളുടെ മടയത്തരം ആവർത്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും.
12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
സ്വന്തം വീക്ഷണത്തിൽ ജ്ഞാനിയെന്ന് അഭിമാനിക്കുന്ന ഒരാളെ നിങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നോ? ഭോഷർക്ക് അയാളെക്കാൾ ആശയ്ക്കുവകയുണ്ട്.
13 The sluggard saith, There is a fierce lion in the way; a lion is in the midst of the streets!
അലസർ ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു, “വഴിയിൽ ഒരു സിംഹമുണ്ട്! ഭീകരനായ ഒരു സിംഹം തെരുവിൽ ചുറ്റിത്തിരിയുന്നുണ്ട്!”
14 [As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggard upon his bed.
ഒരു കതക് അതിന്റെ വിജാഗിരിയിൽ തിരിയുന്നതുപോലെ, അലസർ തങ്ങളുടെ കിടക്കയിൽ തിരിഞ്ഞുമറിയുന്നു.
15 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish: it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
അലസർ ഭക്ഷണപാത്രത്തിൽ കൈ പൂഴ്ത്തുന്നു; അവർ അതു തിരികെ തന്റെ വായിലേക്ക് അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുപോലും മടിയാണ്.
16 A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.
വിവേകപൂർവം ഉത്തരംനൽകുന്ന ഏഴുപേരെക്കാൾ, താൻ കേമനാണെന്ന് അലസർ മിഥ്യാഭിമാനംകൊള്ളുന്നു.
17 He that passing by vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
താനുമായി യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ലാത്ത കലഹത്തിലേക്കു പാഞ്ഞടുക്കുന്നവർ, വഴിയേ പോകുന്ന നായുടെ ചെവിക്കു പിടിക്കുന്നവരെപ്പോലെയാണ്.
18 As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
അയൽവാസിയെ ദ്രോഹിച്ചിട്ട്, “അതു നേരമ്പോക്കിനായിരുന്നു!” എന്നു പറയുന്നവർ;
19 so is a man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport?
മാരകമായ തീജ്വാല ചുഴറ്റിയെറിയുന്ന ഭ്രാന്തനുസമം.
20 Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no talebearer, the contention ceaseth.
വിറകില്ലായെങ്കിൽ തീ കെട്ടുപോകും; പരദൂഷണം ഇല്ലാതെയായാൽ കലഹവും കെട്ടടങ്ങും.
21 [As] coals for hot coals, and wood for fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
കരി ജ്വലനത്തിനും വിറക് തീക്കും എന്നതുപോലെ, കലഹത്തെ പ്രണയിക്കുന്നവർ സംഘട്ടനത്തെ ആളിക്കത്തിക്കുന്നു.
22 The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
ഏഷണി പറയുന്നവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ സ്വാദുഭോജനംപോലെയാകുന്നു; അതു ശരീരത്തിന്റെ അന്തർഭാഗത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നു.
23 Ardent lips, and a wicked heart, are [as] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
ദുഷ്ടമനസ്സുകളുടെ തീവ്രവികാരം മന്ത്രിക്കുന്ന ചുണ്ടുകൾ മൺപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ പുറത്തു വെള്ളി പൂശിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയാണ്.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him:
ശത്രുക്കൾ അവരുടെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു കപടവേഷം ധരിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ അവരുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ വക്രത നിറച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
25 when his voice is gracious, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
അവരുടെ സംഭാഷണം അതിമനോഹരമായിരുന്നാലും അവരെ വിശ്വസിക്കരുത്, ഏഴു ഹീനകൃത്യങ്ങൾകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
26 Though [his] hatred is covered by dissimulation, his wickedness shall be made manifest in the congregation.
അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടത വഞ്ചനാപരമായി മറച്ചുവെച്ചിരുന്നാലും, അവരുടെ നീചകൃത്യങ്ങൾ പൊതുസഭയിൽ വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരും.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
ഒരാൾ കുഴിക്കുന്ന കുഴിയിൽ അയാൾതന്നെ വീഴും; താൻ ഉരുട്ടിവിടുന്ന കല്ല് തന്റെ നേർക്കുതന്നെ തിരിഞ്ഞുരുണ്ടുവന്നു പതിക്കും.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are injured by it, and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
വ്യാജംപറയുന്ന നാവ് അതിനിരയായവരെ വെറുക്കുന്നു, മുഖസ്തുതി പറയുന്ന നാവ് നാശം വിതയ്ക്കുന്നു.
