Proverbs 25
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.
૧આ પણ સુલેમાનનાં નીતિવચનો છે કે, જેનો ઉતારો યહૂદિયાના રાજા હિઝકિયાના માણસોએ કર્યો હતો.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.
૨કોઈ બાબત ગુપ્ત રાખવી તેમાં ઈશ્વરનો મહિમા છે, પણ કોઈ બાબત શોધી કાઢવી એમાં રાજાનું ગૌરવ છે.
3 The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
૩જેમ આકાશની ઊંચાઈ તથા પૃથ્વીનું ઊંડાણ હોય છે, તેમ રાજાઓનું મન અગાધ છે.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner:
૪ચાંદીમાંથી નકામો ભાગ કાઢી નાખો, એટલે ચાંદીનો કારીગર તેમાંથી વાસણ બનાવી શકશે.
5 take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
૫તેમ રાજા પાસેથી દુષ્ટોને દૂર કરો, એટલે તેનું સિંહાસન ન્યાય વડે સ્થિર થશે.
6 Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;
૬રાજાની હાજરીમાં પોતાની બડાઈ ન કર અને મોટા માણસોની જગ્યાએ ઊભા ન રહે.
7 for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.
૭ઉમરાવના દેખતાં તને નીચે ઉતારવામાં આવે તેના કરતાં, “આમ આવો” કહીને ઉપર બેસાડવામાં આવે એ વધારે સારું છે.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
૮દાવામાં જલદી ઊતરી ન પડ. કેમ કે આખરે તારો પ્રતિવાદી તને ઝંખવાણો પાડે ત્યારે શું કરવું તે તને સૂઝે નહિ?
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;
૯તારા દાવા વિષે તારા પ્રતિવાદી સાથે જ વિવાદ કર અને બીજાની ગુપ્ત વાત ઉઘાડી ન કર,
10 lest he that heareth [it] disgrace thee, and thine evil report turn not away.
૧૦રખેને તે સાંભળનાર તારી નિંદા કરે અને તારા પરનો બટ્ટો દૂર થાય નહિ.
11 [As] apples of gold in pictures of silver, is a word spoken in season.
૧૧પ્રસંગને અનુસરીને બોલેલો શબ્દ ચાંદીની ટોપલીમાંનાં સોનાનાં સફરજન જેવો છે.
12 An ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an attentive ear.
૧૨જ્ઞાની વ્યક્તિએ આપેલો ઠપકો આજ્ઞાંકિતના કાનમાં સોનાની કડીઓ તથા સોનાના ઘરેણાં જેવો છે.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so] is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
૧૩ફસલના સમયમાં બરફની શીતળતા જેવી લાગે છે તેવી જ વિશ્વાસુ સંદેશાવાહક તેના મોકલનારાઓને લાગે છે; તે પોતાના માલિકના આત્માને તાજો કરે છે.
14 Clouds and wind without rain, [so] is a man that boasteth himself of a false gift.
૧૪જે કોઈ ભેટો આપવાની વ્યર્થ ડંફાસો મારે છે, પણ કંઈ આપતો નથી, તે વરસાદ વગરનાં વાદળાં તથા પવન જેવો છે.
15 By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
૧૫લાંબી મુદતની સહનશીલતાથી અધિકારીનું મન માને છે અને કોમળ જીભ હાડકાને ભાંગે છે.
16 Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be surfeited therewith, and vomit it.
૧૬જો તને મધ મળ્યું હોય, તો જોઈએ તેટલું જ ખા રખેને તે તારા ગળા સુધી આવે અને તારે તે ઓકી કાઢવું પડે.
17 Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee and hate thee.
૧૭તું તારા પડોશીના ઘરમાં કવચિત જ જા, નહિ તો તે તારાથી કંટાળીને તારો ધિક્કાર કરશે.
18 A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
૧૮પોતાના પડોશી વિરુદ્ધ જૂઠી સાક્ષી પૂરનાર માણસ હથોડા, તલવાર તથા તીક્ષ્ણ તીર જેવો છે.
19 A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful [man] in the day of trouble.
૧૯સંકટસમયે અવિશ્વાસુ માણસ પર મૂકેલો વિશ્વાસ સડેલા દાંત અને ઊતરી ગયેલા પગ જેવો છે.
20 [As] he that taketh off a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a sad heart.
૨૦જે દુઃખી દિલવાળા માણસ આગળ ગીતો ગાય છે, તે ઠંડીમાં અંગ પરથી વસ્ત્ર કાઢી લેનાર જેવો અથવા ઘા પર સરકો રેડનાર જેવો છે.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
૨૧જો તારો શત્રુ ભૂખ્યો હોય, તો તેને ખાવા માટે રોટલો આપ; અને જો તે તરસ્યો હોય, તો પીવા માટે પાણી આપ.
22 for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah shall reward thee.
૨૨કેમ કે એમ કરવાથી તું તેના માથા પર અંગારાનો ઢગલો કરશે અને યહોવાહ તને તેનો બદલો આપશે.
23 The north wind bringeth forth rain, and the angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
૨૩ઉત્તરનો પવન વરસાદ લાવે છે; તેમ જ ચાડીકરનારી જીભ ક્રોધિત ચહેરો ઉપજાવે છે.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
૨૪કજિયાખોર સ્ત્રીની સાથે વિશાળ ઘરમાં રહેવું, તે કરતાં અગાશીના ખૂણામાં રહેવું સારું છે.
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
૨૫જેવું તરસ્યા જીવને માટે ઠંડુ પાણી છે, તેવી જ દૂર દેશથી મળેલી સારી ખબર છે.
26 A troubled fountain, and a defiled well, is a righteous [man] that giveth way before the wicked.
૨૬જેવો ડહોળાયેલો ઝરો અથવા વિનાશક કૂવો છે, તેવો જ દુશ્મનોની આગળથી ખસી જનાર નેક પુરુષ છે.
27 It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is [itself] a weight.
૨૭વધુ પડતું મધ ખાવું સારું નથી, તેમ જ પોતાનું મહત્વ શોધવું એ કંઈ પ્રતિષ્ઠા નથી.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is [as] a city broken down, without walls.
૨૮જે માણસ પોતાના પર કાબુ રાખી શકતો નથી તે ખંડિયેર જેવો તથા કોટ વગરના નગર જેવો છે.
