Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;
౧నీవు పరిపాలకునితో భోజనానికి కూర్చుంటే నీవెవరి సమక్షాన ఉన్నావో బాగా యోచించు.
2 and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
౨నీవు తిండిపోతువైనట్టయితే నీ గొంతుకకు కత్తి పెట్టుకో.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.
౩అతని రుచికరమైన భోజన పదార్థాలను ఆశించకు. అవి మోసకరమైనవి.
4 Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:
౪ఐశ్వర్యవంతుడివి కావడానికి కాయకష్టం చేయకు. అలాటి ప్రయాస ఎప్పుడు చాలించుకోవాలో గ్రహించే జ్ఞానం నీకుండాలి.
5 wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.
౫డబ్బుపై నీవు దృష్టి నిలిపినంతలోనే అది మాయమౌతుంది. హటాత్తుగా అది రెక్కలు కట్టుకుని ఎగిరిపోతుంది. గరుడ పక్షి ఆకాశానికి ఎగిరిపోయినట్టు అది ఎగిరి పోతుంది.
6 Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.
౬దుష్టుని ఆహారం భుజించ వద్దు. అతడు నీవు తింటున్నదాన్ని అదే పనిగా చూస్తుంటాడు. వాడి రుచిగల పదార్థాలను ఆశించవద్దు.
7 For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.
౭ఇలాంటి వాడు లోలోపల ఖరీదు లెక్కలు వేసుకుంటూ ఉంటాడు. నీతో “తినండి, తాగండి” అంటూ ఉంటాడు గానీ అది హృదయపూర్వకంగా అనే మాట కాదు.
8 Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.
౮నీవు తిన్న కొద్ది ఆహారాన్ని కూడా కక్కి వేస్తావు. నీవు పలికిన యింపైన మాటలు అనవసరంగా మాట్లాడినట్టు అవుతుంది.
9 Speak not in the ears of a foolish [man], for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
౯బుద్ధిహీనుడు వింటుండగా మాట్లాడ వద్దు. వాడు నీ మాటల్లోని జ్ఞానాన్ని తృణీకరిస్తాడు.
10 Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
౧౦పురాతనమైన పొలిమేర రాతిని తీసివేయవద్దు. తల్లిదండ్రులు లేని వారి పొలంలోకి చొరబడవద్దు.
11 for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.
౧౧వారి విమోచకుడు బలవంతుడు. ఆయన వారి పక్షాన నీతో వ్యాజ్యెమాడుతాడు.
12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
౧౨ఉపదేశంపై మనస్సు ఉంచు. జ్ఞానయుక్తమైన మాటలు ఆలకించు.
13 Withhold not correction from the child; for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:
౧౩నీ పిల్లలను శిక్షించడం మానవద్దు. బెత్తంతో వాణ్ణి కొట్టినట్టయితే వాడు చావడు.
౧౪బెత్తంతో వాణ్ణి కొడితే పాతాళానికి పోకుండా వాడి ఆత్మను తప్పించిన వాడివౌతావు. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;
౧౫కుమారా, నీ హృదయానికి జ్ఞానం లభిస్తే నా హృదయం కూడా సంతోషిస్తుంది.
16 and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.
౧౬నీ పెదవులు యథార్థమైన మాటలు పలకడం విని నా అంతరంగం ఆనందిస్తుంది.
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners, but [be thou] in the fear of Jehovah all the day;
౧౭పాపులను చూసి నీ హృదయంలో మత్సరపడకు. నిత్యం యెహోవా పట్ల భయభక్తులు కలిగి యుండు.
18 for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
౧౮నిశ్చయంగా భవిషత్తు అనేది ఉంది. నీ ఆశ భంగం కాదు.
19 Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.
౧౯కుమారా, నీవు విని జ్ఞానం తెచ్చుకో. నీ హృదయాన్ని యథార్థమైన త్రోవల్లో చక్కగా నడిపించుకో.
20 Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.
౨౦ద్రాక్షారసం తాగేవారితోనైనా మాంసం ఎక్కువగా తినే వారితోనైనా సహవాసం చేయకు.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.
౨౧తాగుబోతులు, తిండిబోతులు దరిద్రులౌతారు. నిద్రమత్తు చింపిరిగుడ్డలు ధరించడానికి దారి తీస్తుంది.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
౨౨నీ కన్నతండ్రి ఉపదేశం అంగీకరించు. నీ తల్లి వృద్ధాప్యంలో ఆమెను నిర్లక్ష్యం చేయవద్దు.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.
౨౩సత్యాన్ని అమ్మివేయ వద్దు. దాన్ని కొని ఉంచుకో. జ్ఞానం, ఉపదేశం, వివేకం కొని ఉంచుకో.
24 The father of a righteous [man] shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise [son] shall have joy of him:
౨౪ఉత్తముడి తండ్రికి అధిక సంతోషం కలుగుతుంది. జ్ఞానం గలవాణ్ణి కన్నవాడు వాడివల్ల ఆనందపడతాడు.
25 let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
౨౫నీ తలిదండ్రులను సంతోషపెట్టాలి. నీ కన్న తల్లిని ఆనందపరచాలి.
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
౨౬కుమారా, నీ హృదయం నాకియ్యి. నా మార్గాలు నీ కన్నులకు ఇంపుగా ఉండాలి.
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
౨౭వేశ్య లోతైన గుంట. వేరొకడి భార్య యిరుకైన గుంట.
28 She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.
౨౮దోచుకొనేవాడు పొంచి ఉన్నట్టు అది పొంచి ఉంటుంది. అది చాలా మందిని విశ్వాస ఘాతకులుగా చేస్తుంది.
29 Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?
౨౯ఎవరికి హింస? ఎవరికి దుఃఖం? ఎవరికి జగడాలు? ఎవరికి ఫిర్యాదులు? ఎవరికి అనవసరమైన గాయాలు? ఎవరికి ఎరుపెక్కిన కళ్ళు?
30 — They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
౩౦ద్రాక్షారసంతో పొద్దుపుచ్చే వారికే గదా. కలిపిన ద్రాక్షారసం సేవించే వారికే గదా.
31 Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:
౩౧ద్రాక్షారసం ఎర్రగా గిన్నెలో తళతళలాడుతూ రుచిగా కడుపులోకి దిగిపోతూ ఉంటే దానివైపు చూడకు.
32 at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
౩౨అది పాములాగా కాటేస్తుంది. కట్లపాములాగా కరుస్తుంది.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;
౩౩నీ కళ్ళకు విపరితమైనవి కనిపిస్తాయి. నీవు వెర్రిమాటలు పలుకుతావు.
34 and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:
౩౪నీవు నడిసముద్రంలో పడుకున్నవాడి లాగా ఉంటావు. ఓడ తెరచాప కొయ్య చివరన తల వాల్చుకున్నవాడి లాగా ఉంటావు.
35 — “They have smitten me, [and] I am not sore; they have beaten me, [and] I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.”
౩౫“నన్ను కొట్టినా నాకు నొప్పి తెలియలేదు నామీద దెబ్బలు పడినా నాకేమీ అనిపించలేదు. నేనెప్పుడు నిద్ర లేస్తాను? మరికాస్త మద్యం తాగాలి” అని నీవనుకుంటావు.
