Proverbs 22
1 A [good] name is rather to be chosen than great riches; loving favour rather than silver and gold.
Das Gerücht ist köstlicher denn großer Reichtum und Gunst besser denn Silber und Gold.
2 The rich and poor meet together; Jehovah is the maker of them all.
Reiche und Arme müssen untereinander sein; der HERR hat sie alle gemacht.
3 A prudent [man] seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Der Witzige siehet das Unglück und verbirgt sich; die Albernen gehen durchhin und werden beschädigt.
4 The reward of humility [and] the fear of Jehovah is riches, and honour, and life.
Wo man leidet in des HERRN Furcht, da ist Reichtum, Ehre und Leben.
5 Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the perverse: he that keepeth his soul holdeth himself far from them.
Stacheln und Stricke sind auf dem Wege des Verkehrten; wer aber sich davon fernet, bewahret sein Leben.
6 Train up the child according to the tenor of his way, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Wie man einen Knaben gewöhnt, so läßt er nicht davon, wenn er alt wird.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor; and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Der Reiche herrschet über die Armen, und wer borget, ist des Lehners Knecht.
8 He that soweth unrighteousness shall reap iniquity, and the rod of his wrath shall have an end.
Wer Unrecht säet, der wird Mühe ernten und wird durch die Rute seiner Bosheit umkommen.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Ein gut Auge wird gesegnet; denn er gibt seines Brots den Armen.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention will depart, and strife and ignominy shall cease.
Treibe den Spötter aus, so gehet der Zank weg, so höret auf Hader und Schmach.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, upon whose lips is grace, the king is his friend.
Wer ein treu Herz und liebliche Rede hat, des Freund ist der König.
12 The eyes of Jehovah preserve knowledge; but he overthroweth the words of the unfaithful.
Die Augen des HERRN behüten guten Rat; aber die Worte des Verächters verkehret er.
13 The sluggard saith, There is a lion without, I shall be killed in the streets!
Der Faule spricht: Es ist ein Löwe draußen, ich möchte erwürget werden auf der Gasse.
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep ditch: he with whom Jehovah is displeased shall fall therein.
Der Huren Mund ist eine tiefe Grube; wem der HERR ungnädig ist, der fället drein.
15 Folly is bound in the heart of a child; the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Torheit steckt dem Knaben im Herzen; aber die Rute der Zucht wird sie ferne von ihm treiben.
16 He that oppresseth the poor, it is to enrich him; he that giveth to the rich, [bringeth] only to want.
Wer dem Armen unrecht tut, daß seines Guts viel werde, der wird auch einem Reichen geben und mangeln.
17 Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.
Neige deine Ohren und höre die Worte der Weisen und nimm zu Herzen meine Lehre.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee: they shall be together fitted on thy lips.
Denn es wird dir sanft tun, wo du sie wirst bei dir behalten, und werden miteinander durch deinen Mund wohl geraten,
19 That thy confidence may be in Jehovah, I have made [them] known to thee this day, even to thee.
daß deine Hoffnung sei auf den HERRN. Ich muß dich solches täglich erinnern dir zu gut.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things, in counsels and knowledge,
Hab ich dir's nicht mannigfaltiglich vorgeschrieben mit Raten und Lehren,
21 that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?
daß ich dir zeigete einen gewissen Grund der Wahrheit, daß du recht antworten könntest denen, die dich senden?
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate;
Beraube den Armen nicht, ob er wohl arm ist, und unterdrücke den Elenden nicht im Tor;
23 for Jehovah will plead their cause, and despoil the soul of those that despoil them.
denn der HERR wird ihre Sache handeln und wird ihre Untertreter untertreten.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man, and go not with a furious man;
Geselle dich nicht zum zornigen Mann und halte dich nicht zu einem grimmigen Mann;
25 lest thou learn his paths, and get a snare to thy soul.
du möchtest seinen Weg lernen und deiner Seele Ärgernis empfahen.
26 Be not of them that strike hands, of them that are sureties for debts:
Sei nicht bei denen, die ihre Hand verhaften und für Schuld Bürge werden;
27 if thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
denn wo du es nicht hast zu bezahlen, so wird man dir dein Bett unter dir wegnehmen.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.
Treibe nicht zurück die vorigen Grenzen, die deine Väter gemacht haben!
29 Hast thou seen a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before the mean.
Siehest du einen Mann endelich in seinem Geschäfte, der wird vor den Königen stehen und wird nicht vor den Unedlen stehen.
