Proverbs 21
1 The king's heart in the hand of Jehovah is [as] brooks of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
Gleich Wasserbächen ist eines Königs Herz in der Hand Jehovas; wohin immer er will, neigt er es.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the hearts.
Jeder Weg eines Mannes ist gerade in seinen Augen, aber Jehova wägt die Herzen.
3 To exercise justice and judgment is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.
Gerechtigkeit und Recht üben ist Jehova angenehmer als Opfer.
4 Lofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
Stolz der Augen und Hochmut [Eig. Aufgeblasenheit] des Herzens, die Leuchte der Gesetzlosen, sind Sünde.
5 The thoughts of the diligent [tend] only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty, only to want.
Die Gedanken des Fleißigen führen nur zum Überfluß; [O. Gewinn Verlust] und jeder, der hastig ist-es ist nur zum Mangel. [O. Gewinn Verlust]
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting breath of them that seek death.
Erwerb von Schätzen durch Lügenzunge ist verwehender Dunst; solche suchen den Tod. [O. solcher, die den Tod suchen. And. l. mit der alexandr. Übersetzung: Fallstricke des Todes]
7 The devastation of the wicked sweepeth them away, because they refuse to do what is right.
Die Gewalttätigkeit der Gesetzlosen rafft sie hinweg, denn Recht zu üben weigern sie sich.
8 Very crooked is the way of a guilty man; but as for the pure, his work is upright.
Vielgewunden ist der Weg des schuldbeladenen Mannes; der Lautere aber, sein Tun ist gerade.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
Besser ist es, auf einer Dachecke zu wohnen, als ein zänkisches Weib und ein gemeinsames Haus.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
Die Seele des Gesetzlosen begehrt das Böse: sein Nächster findet keine Gnade in seinen Augen.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple becometh wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
Wenn man den Spötter bestraft, so wird der Einfältige weise; und wenn man den Weisen belehrt, so nimmt er Erkenntnis an.
12 One that is righteous wisely considereth the house of the wicked: he overthroweth the wicked to [their] ruin.
Ein Gerechter hat acht auf das Haus des Gesetzlosen, er stürzt die Gesetzlosen ins Unglück.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also himself shall cry, and shall not be heard.
Wer sein Ohr verstopft vor dem Schrei des Armen, auch er wird rufen und nicht erhört werden.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger; and a present in the bosom, vehement fury.
Eine Gabe im Verborgenen wendet den Zorn ab, und ein Geschenk im Busen den heftigen Grimm.
15 It is joy to a righteous [man] to do what is right; but it is ruin for the workers of iniquity.
Dem Gerechten ist es Freude, Recht zu üben; aber denen, die Frevel tun, ein Schrecken.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of wisdom shall abide in the congregation of the dead.
Ein Mensch, der von dem Wege der Einsicht abirrt, wird ruhen in der Versammlung der Schatten. [S. die Anm. zu Ps. 88,10]
17 He that loveth mirth shall be a poor man; he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
Wer Freude liebt, wird ein Mann des Mangels werden; wer Wein und Öl liebt, wird nicht reich.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and a treacherous [man] in the stead of the upright.
Der Gesetzlose ist ein Lösegeld für den Gerechten, und der Treulose tritt an die Stelle der Aufrichtigen.
19 It is better to dwell in a desert land. than with a contentious and irritable woman.
Besser ist es, in einem wüsten Lande zu wohnen, als ein zänkisches Weib und Ärger.
20 There is costly store and oil in the dwelling of a wise [man]; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.
Ein kostbarer Schatz und Öl ist in der Wohnung des Weisen, aber ein törichter Mensch verschlingt es.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
Wer der Gerechtigkeit und der Güte nachjagt, wird Leben finden, Gerechtigkeit und Ehre.
22 A wise [man] scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
Der Weise ersteigt die Stadt der Helden und stürzt nieder die Feste ihres [d. h. der Stadt] Vertrauens.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Wer seinen Mund und seine Zunge bewahrt, bewahrt vor Drangsalen seine Seele.
24 Proud, arrogant, scorner is his name who dealeth in proud wrath.
Der Übermütige, Stolze, Spötter ist sein Name, handelt mit vermessenem Übermut.
25 The desire of the sluggard killeth him; for his hands refuse to work:
Die Begierde des Faulen tötet ihn, denn seine Hände weigern sich zu arbeiten.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long; but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
Den ganzen Tag begehrt und begehrt man, [O. er] aber der Gerechte gibt und hält nicht zurück.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more when they bring it with a wicked purpose!
Das Opfer der Gesetzlosen ist ein Greuel; wieviel mehr, wenn er es in böser Absicht [O. für eine Schandtat] bringt.
28 A lying witness shall perish; and a man that heareth shall speak constantly.
Ein Lügenzeuge wird umkommen; ein Mann aber, welcher hört, darf immerdar reden.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he establisheth his way.
Ein gesetzloser Mann zeigt ein trotziges Gesicht; aber der Aufrichtige, er merkt auf seinen Weg. [Nach and. Les.: er richtet seine Wege]
30 There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against Jehovah.
Da ist keine Weisheit und keine Einsicht und kein Rat gegenüber Jehova.
31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but safety is of Jehovah.
Das Roß wird gerüstet für den Tag des Streites, aber die Rettung [O. der Sieg] ist Jehovas.
