Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.
El vino es burlador y alborotador el licor, Y cualquiera que en ello se desvía no es sabio.
2 The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
Como rugido de león es la ira del rey, El que provoca su ira expone su propia vida.
3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife; but every fool rusheth into it.
Honra del hombre es evitar la contienda, Pero todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
4 The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
En otoño no ara el holgazán, Rebuscará en la cosecha y nada hallará.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is deep water, and a man of understanding draweth it out.
Como agua profunda es el propósito en el corazón del hombre, Pero el hombre entendido logrará extraerlo.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but a faithful man who shall find?
Muchos hombres proclaman su propia bondad, Pero un hombre fiel, ¿quién lo hallará?
7 The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!
El justo camina en su integridad, Después de él, sus hijos son muy dichosos.
8 A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
Un rey sentado en el tribunal, Con su mirada disipa toda maldad.
9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
¿Quién podrá decir: Tengo mi conciencia limpia, Estoy purificado de mi pecado?
10 Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.
Pesa falsa y medida falsa, Ambas son repugnancia a Yavé.
11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos, Si su conducta es limpia y recta.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
El oído que oye y el ojo que ve, Ambas cosas las hizo Yavé.
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
No ames el sueño No sea que te empobrezcas. Abre tus ojos y te saciarás de pan.
14 Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
Es malo, es malo, dice el comprador, Pero cuando se va, se jacta.
15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.
Existe el oro y multitud de piedras preciosas, Pero los labios sabios son algo más precioso.
16 Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.
Tómale la ropa al que salió fiador de un extraño, Y tómale prenda cuando da garantía a los forasteros.
17 Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
Sabroso es al hombre el pan mal adquirido, Pero después su boca estará llena de fragmentos de piedra.
18 Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.
Confirma los planes por medio del consejo, Y con sabias estrategias haz la guerra.
19 He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.
El que revela secretos levanta calumnia, Por tanto, no te metas con un chismoso.
20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
Al que insulte a su padre o a su madre, Se le apagará su lámpara en medio de la oscuridad.
21 An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
Herencia adquirida con robo al comienzo, Al fin no será bendita.
22 Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.
No digas: Yo me vengaré. Espera a Yavé, y Él te salvará.
23 Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.
Las pesas desiguales son repugnancia a Yavé, Y una balanza con trampa no es buena.
24 The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?
De Yavé son los pasos del hombre, ¿Cómo, pues, podrá el hombre entender su camino?
25 It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.
Trampa es al hombre el voto apresurado, Y después de hacerlo, reflexionar.
26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
El rey sabio dispersa a los perversos, Y hace pasar sobre ellos la rueda de trillar.
27 Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.
Lámpara de Yavé es el espíritu del hombre, Que escudriña lo más recóndito del ser.
28 Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.
Misericordia y verdad preservan al rey, Y la clemencia sustenta su trono.
29 The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, Y el esplendor de los ancianos, sus canas.
30 Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes [purge] the inner parts of the belly.
Las marcas de los azotes purifican del mal, Y los golpes llegan a lo íntimo del corazón.
