< Proverbs 17 >
1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting [with] strife.
Okulya akamere akaluma awali emirembe, kisinga okuba mu nnyumba ejjudde ebyassava nga mulimu entalo.
2 A wise servant shall rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.
Omuddu omugezi alifuga omwana wa bowo akwasa ensonyi, era alifuna ebyobusika ng’omu ku baana b’awaka.
3 The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but Jehovah trieth the hearts.
Entamu erongoosa yakolebwa lwa ffeeza, n’ekikoomi ky’okulongoosa lwa zaabu, naye Mukama agezesa emitima.
4 The evil-doer giveth heed to iniquitous lips; the liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
Omubi assaayo omwoyo eri eby’obulimba, era n’omulimba awuliriza olulimi olukuusa.
5 Whoso mocketh a poor [man] reproacheth his Maker; he that is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent.
Oyo akudaalira omwavu avvoola eyamutonda, n’oyo asanyukira obuyinike bw’abalala talirema kubonerezebwa.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
Abazzukulu ngule ya bajjajjaabwe, era n’abaana beenyumiririza mu bakadde baabwe.
7 Excellent speech becometh not a vile [man]; how much less do lying lips a noble!
Enjogerannungi teba ya musirusiru, ng’oweekitiibwa bw’atasaana kwogera bya bulimba.
8 A gift is a precious stone in the eyes of the possessor: whithersoever it turneth it prospereth.
Enguzi eri ng’ejjinja ery’omufuusa mu maaso g’oyo agigaba, alowooza nti buli gy’akyukira eneemuyamba.
9 He that covereth transgression seeketh love; but he that bringeth a matter up again separateth very friends.
Okwagala tekulondoola nsobi, naye oyo atasonyiwa nsobi akyawaganya ab’omukwano enfirabulago.
10 A reproof entereth more deeply into him that hath understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
Okunenya kuyamba nnyo omuntu ategeera, okusinga okukuba omusirusiru embooko ekikumi.
11 An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion; but a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
Omukozi w’ebibi anoonya bujeemu bwereere, era kyaliva asindikirwa omubaka omukambwe.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man rather than a fool in his folly.
Okusisinkana eddubu enyagiddwako abaana baayo, kisinga okusisinkana omusirusiru mu busirusiru bwe.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
Omuntu bw’asasula ekibi olw’obulungi, ekibi tekiriva mu nnyumba ye.
14 The beginning of contention is [as] when one letteth out water; therefore leave off strife before it become vehement.
Okutandika oluyombo kuli ng’omuntu bw’asumulula omudumu gw’amazzi, noolwekyo vvaawo ng’oluyombo terunnatandika.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are abomination to Jehovah.
Eyejjeereza omukozi w’ebibi n’oyo avumirira omutuukirivu, bombi ba muzizo eri Mukama.
16 To what purpose is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he] hath no sense?
Omusirusiru agasibwa ki okuba ne ssente ezisasulibwa amagezi, ng’ate ye talina mutima gwegomba magezi?
17 The friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Omukwano ogw’amagezi guba gwa lubeerera, era owooluganda yeesigibwa mu biro eby’ennaku.
18 A senseless man striketh hands, becoming surety for his neighbour.
Omuntu atalina magezi awa obweyamo ne yeetema okusasula amabanja ga muliraanwa we.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth a quarrel; he that maketh high his gate seeketh destruction.
Oyo ayagala ekibi anyumirwa ennyombo, n’oyo akola omulyango omunene ogw’omu maaso gwa bbugwe ye nga guyitiridde obunene gulimuteganya nnyo.
20 He that hath a perverse heart findeth no good; and he that shifteth about with his tongue falleth into evil.
Omuntu ow’omutima omubambaavu takulaakulana, n’oyo ow’olulimi olulimba agwa mu katyabaga.
21 He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow, and the father of a vile [man] hath no joy.
Omwana omusirusiru aleetera kitaawe obuyinike, kitaawe w’omusirusiru taba na ssanyu.
22 A joyful heart promoteth healing; but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
Omutima ogw’essanyu ddagala ddungi, naye omwoyo omunyiikaavu gukozza omubiri.
23 A wicked [man] taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the paths of judgment.
Omuntu omubi alya enguzi mu kyama, alyoke aziyize amazima okweyoleka.
24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
Omuntu omutegeevu, ebirowoozo abissa eri amagezi, naye amaaso g’omusirusiru gasamaalirira ensi gy’ekoma.
25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
Omwana omusirusiru buyinike eri kitaawe, era aleeta ennaku eri nnyina eyamuzaala.
26 To punish a righteous [man] is not good, nor to strike nobles because of [their] uprightness.
Si kirungi okuweesa omutuukirivu engassi ey’obwereere wadde okukuba ab’ekitiibwa embooko olw’obwesimbu bwabwe.
27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.
Omuntu omwegendereza mu bigambo bye abeera n’okutegeera, n’oyo alina omwoyo omuteefu aba muntu wa magezi.
28 Even a fool when he holdeth his peace is reckoned wise, [and] he that shutteth his lips, intelligent.
Omusirusiru bw’asirika alowoozebwa okuba n’amugezi, era aba mutegeevu bw’afuga akamwa ke.
