Proverbs 16
1 The purposes of the heart are of man, but the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.
En menniska sätter sig väl före i hjertat; men af Herranom kommer, hvad tungan tala skall.
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the spirits.
Hvarjom och enom tyckas hans vägar rene vara; men Herren allena gör hjertat visst.
3 Commit thy works unto Jehovah, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Befalla Herranom din verk, så gå din anslag fram.
4 Jehovah hath wrought everything on his own account, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Herren gör all ting för sin egen skull; desslikes ock den ogudaktiga till en ondan dag.
5 Every proud heart is an abomination to Jehovah: hand for hand, he shall not be held innocent.
All högmodig hjerta äro Herranom en styggelse, och skola icke ostraffad blifva, om de än alle tillhopa höllo.
6 By loving-kindness and truth iniquity is atoned for; and by the fear of Jehovah [men] depart from evil.
Genom godhet och trohet varder en missgerning försonad, och genom Herrans fruktan undflyr man det onda.
7 When a man's ways please Jehovah, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Om någors mans vägar behaga Herranom, så gör han ock hans ovänner tillfrids med honom.
8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.
Bättre är litet med rättfärdighet, än mycken tilldrägt med orätt.
9 The heart of man deviseth his way, but Jehovah directeth his steps.
Menniskones hjerta sätter sig sina vägar före; men Herren allena gifver, att de framgår.
10 An oracle is on the lips of the king: his mouth will not err in judgment.
Prophetia ( är ) i Konungens mun; hans mun felar intet i domen.
11 The just balance and scales are Jehovah's; all the weights of the bag are his work.
Rätt våg och vigt är af Herranom; och all pund i säckenom äro hans verk.
12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for the throne is established by righteousness.
Om Konungarna orätt göra, så äro de en styggelse; ty genom rättfärdighet varder Konungssätet fast.
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaketh aright.
Rätt råd behagar Konungenom, och den som rätt råder, han varder älskad.
14 The fury of a king is [as] messengers of death; but a wise man will pacify it.
Konungens vrede är dödsens bådskap, och en vis man försonar honom.
15 In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
När Konungens ansigte är ljufligit, det är lifvet, och hans ynnest är såsom ett aftonregn.
16 How much better is it to get wisdom than fine gold, and the getting of intelligence to be preferred to silver!
Tag vishet till dig, ty hon är bättre än guld; och hafva förstånd är ädlare än silfver.
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that taketh heed to his way keepeth his soul.
De frommas väg flyr det arga, och den sin väg bevarar, han behåller sitt lif.
18 Pride [goeth] before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Den som ett nederfall skall få, han varder tillförene högmodig, och stort sinne går för fallet.
19 Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the meek, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Bättre är ödmjuk vara med de elända, än utskifta rof med de högfärdiga.
20 He that giveth heed to the word shall find good; and whoso confideth in Jehovah, happy is he.
Den ena sak visliga företager, han finner lycko, och säll är den som sig förlåter på Herran.
21 The wise in heart is called intelligent, and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
En förståndig varder berömd for en vis man, och ljuft tal lärer väl.
22 Wisdom is a fountain of life for him that hath it; but the instruction of fools is folly.
Klokhet är en lefvandes källa honom, som hafver henne; men de dårars tuktan är galenskap.
23 The heart of the wise maketh his mouth intelligent, and upon his lips increaseth learning.
Ett vist hjerta talar klokliga, och lärer väl.
24 Pleasant words are [as] a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health for the bones.
Ljuftig ord äro en hannogskaka; de trösta själena, och uppfriska benen.
25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
Mångom behagar en väg väl, men hans yttersta drager till döden.
26 The appetite of the labourer laboureth for him, for his mouth urgeth him on.
Mången man kommer i stor olycko genom sin egen mun.
27 A man of Belial diggeth up evil, and on his lips there is as a scorching fire.
En lösaktig menniska gräfver efter olycko, och i hennes mun brinner eld.
28 A false man soweth contention; and a talebearer separateth very friends.
En vrång menniska kommer träto åstad, och en lackare gör Förstar oens.
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a way that is not good.
En arg menniska lockar sin nästa, och förer honom in på en ondan väg.
30 He that shutteth his eyes, [it is] to devise froward things; biting his lips, he bringeth evil to pass.
Den som blinkar med ögonen, han tänker intet godt; och den som biter läpparna, han fullkomnar ondt.
31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, [if] it is found in the way of righteousness.
Gå hår äro en hederskrona, den på rättfärdighetenes väg funnen varder.
32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
En tålig man är bättre än en stark; och den, som råder sitt sinne, är bättre än en som städer vinner.
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole decision is of Jehovah.
Lotten varder kastad i skötet; men han faller hvart Herren vill.
