< Proverbs 14 >

1 The wisdom of women buildeth their house; but folly plucketh it down with her hands.
Mwanamke mwenye hekima huijenga nyumba yake, bali mpumbavu huibomoa nyumba yake kwa mikono yake mwenyewe.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; but he that is perverted in his ways despiseth him.
Yeye ambaye njia zake ni nyofu humcha Bwana, bali yeye ambaye njia zake zimepotoka humdharau Mungu.
3 In the fool's mouth is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Mazungumzo ya mpumbavu huleta fimbo mgongoni mwake, bali mwenye hekima hulindwa na maneno ya midomo yake.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
Pale ambapo hakuna mafahali, hori ni tupu, bali kutokana na nguvu za fahali huja mavuno mengi.
5 A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness uttereth lies.
Shahidi mwaminifu hadanganyi, bali shahidi wa uongo humimina uongo.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and there is none [for him]; but knowledge is easy unto the intelligent.
Mwenye mzaha huitafuta hekima na haipati, bali maarifa huja kwa urahisi kwa anayepambanua.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, in whom thou perceivest not the lips of knowledge.
Kaa mbali na mtu mpumbavu, kwa maana hutapata maarifa katika midomo yake.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
Hekima ya mwenye busara ni kufikiria njia zake, bali upumbavu wa wapumbavu ni udanganyifu.
9 Fools make a mock at trespass; but for the upright there is favour.
Wapumbavu hudhihaki kujirekebisha kutoka dhambi, bali wema hupatikana miongoni mwa wanyofu.
10 The heart knoweth its own bitterness, and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
Kila moyo hujua uchungu wake wenyewe, wala hakuna yeyote awezaye kushiriki furaha yake.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
Nyumba ya mwovu itaangamizwa, bali hema la mnyofu litastawi.
12 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
Iko njia ionekanayo kuwa sawa kwa mtu, bali mwisho wake huelekeza mautini.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is sadness.
Hata katika kicheko moyo waweza kuuma, nayo furaha yaweza kuishia katika majonzi.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man from what is in himself.
Wasio na imani watapatilizwa kikamilifu kwa ajili ya njia zao, naye mtu mwema atapewa thawabu kwa ajili ya njia yake.
15 The simple believeth every word; but the prudent [man] heedeth his going.
Mtu mjinga huamini kila kitu, bali mwenye busara hufikiria hatua zake.
16 A wise [man] feareth and departeth from evil; but the foolish is overbearing and confident.
Mtu mwenye hekima humcha Bwana na kuepuka mabaya, bali mpumbavu hukasirika kwa hamaki na uzembe.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly, and a man of mischievous devices is hated.
Mtu anayekasirika kwa haraka hufanya mambo ya upumbavu, naye mtu wa hila huchukiwa.
18 The simple inherit folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Mjinga hurithi upumbavu, bali wenye busara huvikwa maarifa kichwani kama taji.
19 The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous [man].
Watu wabaya watasujudu mbele ya watu wema, nao waovu kwenye malango ya wenye haki.
20 He that is poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
Maskini huepukwa hata na majirani zao, bali matajiri wana marafiki wengi.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious to the afflicted, happy is he.
Yeye anayemdharau jirani yake hutenda dhambi, bali amebarikiwa yeye aliye na huruma kwa mhitaji.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but loving-kindness and truth are for those that devise good.
Je, wale wanaopanga ubaya hawapotoki? Bali wale wanaopanga kilicho chema hupata upendo na uaminifu.
23 In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to want.
Kazi zote zinazofanywa kwa bidii huleta faida, bali mazungumzo matupu huelekea umaskini tu.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of the foolish is folly.
Utajiri wa wenye hekima ni taji yao, bali upumbavu wa wapumbavu huzaa upumbavu.
25 A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.
Shahidi wa kweli huokoa maisha, bali shahidi wa uongo ni mdanganyifu.
26 In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.
Yeye amchaye Bwana ana ngome salama, na kwa watoto wake itakuwa kimbilio.
27 The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
Kumcha Bwana ni chemchemi ya uzima, ili kumwepusha mtu na mitego ya mauti.
28 In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the lack of people is the ruin of a prince.
Wingi wa watu ni utukufu wa mfalme, bali pasipo watu mkuu huangamia.
29 He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
Mtu mwenye subira ana ufahamu mwingi, bali anayekasirika haraka huonyesha upumbavu.
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.
Moyo wenye amani huupa mwili uzima, bali wivu huozesha mifupa.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; but he that honoureth Him is gracious to the needy.
Yeye amwoneaye maskini huonyesha dharau kwa Muumba wao, bali yeyote anayemhurumia mhitaji humheshimu Mungu.
32 The wicked is driven away by his evil-doing; but the righteous trusteth, [even] in his death.
Waovu huangamizwa kwa matendo yao maovu, bali hata katika kifo wenye haki hupata kimbilio.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of the intelligent [man]; but that which is in the foolish maketh itself known.
Hekima hukaa katika moyo wa mwenye ufahamu bali haijulikani miongoni mwa wapumbavu.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to peoples.
Haki huinua taifa, bali dhambi ni aibu kwa watu wote.
35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
Mfalme hupendezwa na mtumishi mwenye hekima, bali ghadhabu yake humwangukia mtumishi mwenye kuaibisha.
