Proverbs 13
1 A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Un hijo sabio escucha la instrucción de su padre, pero un burlón no escucha la reprimenda.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
Por el fruto de sus labios, el hombre disfruta de las cosas buenas, pero los infieles ansían la violencia.
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
El que guarda su boca guarda su alma. El que abre mucho los labios se arruina.
4 A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
El alma del perezoso desea y no tiene nada, pero el deseo de los diligentes será plenamente satisfecho.
5 A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.
El hombre justo odia la mentira, pero un hombre malvado trae vergüenza y desgracia.
6 Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
La justicia guarda el camino de la integridad, pero la maldad derriba al pecador.
7 There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
Hay quienes pretenden ser ricos, pero no tienen nada. Hay algunos que fingen ser pobres, pero tienen grandes riquezas.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.
El rescate de la vida de un hombre es su riqueza, pero los pobres no escuchan las amenazas.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
La luz de los justos brilla con fuerza, pero la lámpara de los malvados se apaga.
10 By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
La soberbia sólo genera peleas, pero la sabiduría está en las personas que aceptan los consejos.
11 Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].
La riqueza obtenida de forma deshonesta se desvanece, pero el que recoge a mano lo hace crecer.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.
La esperanza postergada enferma el corazón, pero cuando el anhelo se cumple, es un árbol de la vida.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Quien desprecia la instrucción lo pagará, pero el que respeta una orden será recompensado.
14 The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
La enseñanza de los sabios es un manantial de vida, para alejarse de las trampas de la muerte.
15 Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.
El buen entendimiento gana el favor, pero el camino de los infieles es duro.
16 Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.
Todo hombre prudente actúa desde el conocimiento, pero un tonto expone la locura.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
Un mensajero malvado cae en problemas, pero un enviado de confianza consigue la curación.
18 Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
La pobreza y la vergüenza llegan al que rechaza la disciplina, pero el que hace caso a la corrección será honrado.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.
El anhelo cumplido es dulce para el alma, pero los tontos detestan apartarse del mal.
20 He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.
El que camina con los sabios se hace sabio, pero el compañero de los tontos sufre daños.
21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
La desgracia persigue a los pecadores, pero la prosperidad recompensa a los justos.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].
Un buen hombre deja una herencia a los hijos de sus hijos, pero la riqueza del pecador se almacena para el justo.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.
En los campos de los pobres hay abundancia de alimentos, pero la injusticia la barre.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
El que ahorra la vara odia a su hijo, pero quien lo ama tiene cuidado de disciplinarlo.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
El justo come para satisfacer su alma, pero el vientre de los malvados pasa hambre.
